View 1 RepliesI want to create a function based (not frame) delay of about 10 seconds to the function at the start of a flash movie, the code only needs to run once.I'm very new to actionscript and have been given links to SetInterval and SetTimer examples but they all seem to be very complex.The function is below. I believe it's possible to add the commandTimer(delay:Number, repeatCount:int = 0) how me to a simple example.
onClipEvent (enterFrame) {
framePos = int(_xmouse / 100 * _parent._totalframes);
if (framePos < 0) {

Im new to action script and am just starting to understand it. Im trying to create a loop with a delay in it but am not having much luck passing growing variables to the new function.

I was wondering if there was a way to create a delay between tweens? for example i want one object to tween and then half way before that first tween finishes, a 2nd tween starts
View 3 RepliesI have a number of cases where I have a tween happening in ActionScript, but I would like it to happen after a delay from the event that triggers it. At the moment I'm creating this delay by having a tween that does nothing (eg. an "_x" tween for which the start and end points are the same) and then using tween1.onMotionFinished = function(){to create the one I really want. Is there a way to create this delay more neatly?
View 1 RepliesIn last frame of my movie I have some code like this on: gotoAndPlay(125); Now I want to pause my movie in last frame for 10 seconds and then execute above code . How can I do it with AS 2.0?
View 10 RepliesI create 3 instances of the class below. I need to find a way to call them with a delay so they get added to the stage one after the other. Is there a class that lets me queue up functions? Or an economical way to do it with the functions built into flash.

at the tail end of my Flash cs4, actionscript 3.0 college project and want to incorporate a countdown Timer Event when there is a 3 minute delay of usage in the flash movie (interactive).Below is what I understand and want to accomplish.Is it correct to place the actionscript code in the actions layer of the 1st frame within the 1st scene?And will it be recognized throughout all the scenes within the flash movie?1. Have the flash movie recognize a delay of usage (no clicking) after 3 minutes to start a countdown Timer Event.??Where would I add code to the timer to fire every 3 minutes during a delay of usage?
import flash.utils.Timer;
import flash.events.TimerEvent;
var count:Number = 11;

I Have Flash CS4 and a pretty decent system with Vista and 3 GB of RAM. However, whenever I click on anything in Flash, it takes about 3 or 4 seconds for it to become active. If I click a keyframe, the stage won't come up for 3-4 seconds, if I click the text tool, the cross hairs won't come up for 3-4 seconds, etc. It has been like this since I installed it...I am just finally getting my full of it.
View 3 Repliesask:i want to create an audio sequence.there are 8 predefined sound-starting-points in the timeline.for each starting-point, the user can select wich sound is played (dropdown menu).when the user made his choice for all the 8 bars.actionscript should gather this information and create a fluid sequence of these 8 sounds.then there will be a "play" button available for the user to start the sequence.the sounds don't have to be synced to a button or so.there is time for actionscript to put the sequence together.problem:when i put two sounds directly one after another in a movieclip, there is no delay between the sounds, which is exactly what i want, but i can not control which sound is played through actionscript.when i use actionscript, there is a delay between the sounds.here is what i tried with as.this is placed in the frame where sound2 should start
if (_global.Sound2 == "Piano" {
var SoundA:Sound = new Sound ();
SoundA.attachSound("Piano.mp3");

I have a rather large flash piece (17MB) that has a preloader that doesn't appear immediately.The screen remains black and then after a pause, the preloader pops up with 20% already loaded.I'm unsure if the file is so large that it takes that long for it to run calculations,or if something is different with flash 8,or what is hanging things up. On the preload scene I have one .gif that is 6.5kb when compressed, a simple vector button, and a vector based graphic for a cursor change that has the appropriate script attached.I would like to either correct the problem or create a preloader for the preloader. Here's the script I'm using:
myLoaded = Math.round(getBytesLoaded());
myTotal = Math.round(getBytesTotal());
myPercent = myLoaded/myTotal;[code]........
i have a little Query. iv looked on the past forum posts but the solution i found did'nt work "for me".I was wondering how to delay an action with actioniscript i.e. press wait 10seconds then perform action/function i have a crude way but i it calls for animating in the time line and i want to do as little of that as possible
View 5 RepliesI've been suffering the fliction of making sounds playing synchronized in Flash, I load 4 mp3 files externally and once all of the 4 mp3 loaded completely, let them play, but they starts not at the same time, the files starts unsynchronized with a random manner, some times file a starts first, some times file c starts first, there are always files delay about 500ms, the wierd thing is, O only see it's running sync in one computer, in firefox browser, in IE not. Same problem like, we always experience the case that, when we click a music player button, the sound not starts immediately or click a stop button, the sound not end immediately.
View 2 RepliesI'm working on a Flash intro for a site. After the Flash movie plays I want it to wait three seconds and then send them to the index page. Currently I'm using the action script:

I've got that keyed to the last frame. The issue is at the end of the Flash movie it displays the company logo image. Well with that script added to the last frame it just quickly blips up the logo then takes you to the main page so fast you don't even get to really see the logo. I want the viewer to have a couple seconds to take it in, but then move them along to the main site without them having to look for a button to press.
i have a very simple animation in flash CS4. My image travels from point X to point Y over 90 frames.I would like the image to stop at frame 45 for a few seconds, before continuing.

I have l logo animation but i don't want it to play every time a user runs over it with mouse. I'd like it to start playing after the user has stayed on the banner for 1 second (30 frames in my case). So if the user leaves the logo before 1 second, the animation wouldn't start.
Can it be done with actionscript? If so then how I use flash for tweened animations and am not familiar with programming languages. So a code examlpe (or a link to one) would be very welcome
The code to activate the animation is as follows:

Its been a long time since i've posted on this forum. I've always just browsed, but never had enough experience to post and answer questions.I am doing a small project for uni, and im a little stuck with some (probably simple) AS3.
To set the scene.... I have a scene, funnily enough, with 5 frames (and several layers). I have navigation buttons back---home---forward, which do not change over the length of the scene.In each frame (2-5) i have an embedded flv in a movieClip. The idea was to have a listener on the back and forward buttons, when clicked they do either nextFrame(); or prevFrame();.
However, to stop the 5 frames playing (and looping) i put in an action listener for ENTER_FRAME on the first frame (see below).My problem appears to be the time it takes for the ENTER_FRAME to fire. The timeline plays straight away, and is already on frame 2 before the enter_frame actually stops it. Can anyone suggest a reason why there is such a delay in the firing of the enter_frame event, and is there a way to solve it without putting in a gotoAndPlay(1); instead of the stop();??
Also, the forward button works, but the back button never appears to be created. Not quite sure why, as its exactly the same code, with just the names changed, and the instance names as well.

I have 40 frames on a timeline, each frame has an tweening script below:
import fl.transitions.*;
import fl.transitions.easing.*;
TransitionManager.start(week_2,{type:Fade, direction:Transition.IN, duration: 12, easing:Strong.easeOut})
And on the main timeline for the functions and buttons play/pause/next/previous is working good except, I want to delay every frame for like 10 seconds.
Code below:
stop();
// button Play/Pause navigation on timeline
stop_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, onStopClick, false, 0, true);
start_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, onPlayClick, false, 0, true);
function onStopClick(evt:MouseEvent):void {

I'm wondering what my best option is to delay the loading/playing of a movie that is set to autoplay?The videos are all external if that matters; is there any kind of code I can fire within a javascript function once I want it to start?
View 2 RepliesI've got a Flash video that takes a very long time (30 seconds+) to load, which is obviously frustrating for users. I'm using the JWPlayer to embed the video.Flash experts (which is not me), what am I doing wrong? Or is the video file too big/server too slow? I've tried embedding in various ways (direct embed, swfobject) without change.I notice it does sometimes play right away on load, but I'm not sure if this is because at that time, the Flash video is cached in my browser.

I am trying to develop my first flash app. The application emulates a "karaoke" service. It plays a background sound and at the same time records the sound coming from the mic. I use the "sound" class to play the sound (s.play() ) and the "netStream" class to record the mic sound (ns.publish("mysound", "record") ). In the same app, I then try to play these two sounds together. The problem is that I cannot synchronize them. My tests drove me to a conclusion which I am not certain for. The conclusion is that the method s.play() has a delay about 500ms until the sound starts playing. The result is that recording starts 500ms earlier than playback. When, then, I playback both of them the recording sound is 500ms after the backround sound. Is that delay for sure true?
View 12 RepliesI have a menu that works really well, however sometimes it is hard for users to get to the submenus because there is no delay between when they roll off the main menu item till the next one pops up. They currently can avoid this by rolling the mouse straight down, and then over, but that isn't necessarily intuitive. The main difference is I added some rollover effects and made it horizontal instead of vertical.

okay.. i'm using a xml n URLrequest to bring up the song n song list in a listbox but, I want the song hold for x seconds (because there r a silent opening first, then I want the the song start when the silent opening ends). Perhaps there r code to add delay just to the song so it not autoplay? Plus I dont know where to put the code..
here's the code for frame 1

Im writing an application that parses xml to display a menu system in Flash. The same loop that grabs the xml creates a new movie clip for each node(menuitem). I need to set a delay between the duplicated movie clips so they appear one after another rather than all at the same time. Ive tried a few different things (interval and timer) but havent got it to work.
Code:
var item_spacing = 60;
var item_count = 0;
var item_count_next = 0;
var newy = 0;
_global.itemNumber = "";
function CreateMenu(menu_xml){

I noticed that when compiling a flash file (test Movie) and when I am loading some content from a webserver that is slow that I think flash is thinking it takes too long and crashes. So is there a way to control the compile time to prevent it from crashing?
View 1 RepliesI have three buttons, each time you hover over a button an image related to that button will appear. Got this to work by following this tutorial: [URL]
I have the buttons inside a movieclip and the code on each movie clip is
on (rollOver) {
_root.x +=2;
_root.But1_MC.swapDepths(_root.x);
[Code]....
This works together nicely until I roll my mouse over one of the buttons, and pretty much whatever the last button was that I rolled over that's what image stays up. The side buttons still keep rotating at the correct interval, but the images are not the correct ones
