ActionScript 2.0 :: Creating Multiple Objects Using Variable Statement
Jul 30, 2006
This shouldn't be too difficult. Heres my code:
for(i=0; i<30; i++){
var box[i]:Object = new Object()
box[i].id = [i]
box[i].name = "default"
box[i].location = "default"
box[i].type = "default"
But its not working. I keep getting error messages concerning the var box[i] statement.
My goal is to create multiple objects that fall downwards. The problem now is that the object stays in the left upper corner. I've linked the object to actionscript with the name "object". Can someone help me?
This is my code:
Code: var namer:MovieClip = this.createEmptyMovieClip("objectHolder", 1); for (i=0; i<=count; i++) { var newName:String = "object"+(count);
want to simplify coding and wondered if there was a way to write a script that could be used on multiple objects without having to write it to address each object individually. I am building a simple menu where I want the menu link to rise and scale up when the button for it is rolled over and then return to its original position when the mouse rolls off. I know I can write this per button and per item, but wanted to see if there was a way to write it once and then apply the action to everything. EX. My menu consists of 5 items (and respective buttons) home_mc (home_btn), menu_mc, dining_mc, contact_mc, specials_mc.If I write the code
home_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_OVER, homeOver); home_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_OUT, homeOff); function homeOver(MouseEvent) {
The following doesn't work (although it gives no explicit error), but why not?nd... Is there really no way around it, strictly using the with statement? Forget using for / foreach.
with (object1, object2) { attribute = value; method(); }
Why the code above gives no syntax error, doesn't work but is accepted by with?If it's possible, how could we change multiple objects with same attribute using with?
var object1 = { attribute: 3 }; var object2 = { attribute: 2, method: function() { alert('blah'); } }; var object3 = { method: function() {alert('bleh'); } };
My problem is how to call a specific tween to stop it, for example: onrollover stop the tween assigned to "barra3" mc for example. I can't use bot_alpha.stop() it doesn't work. I think it's because i have multiple "bot_alpha" tweens, i need something to dynamic create bot_alpha1; bot_alpha2; ... ...
I have a class that represents a turret in the center of my screen.When I hold down SPACE, I want it to create a "bullet"-object that moves in the direction of the turrets cannon, every frame the SPACE key is held down. I am having problems with this cause I am getting this error when I am trying to create the object:
Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.
This is where the error occurs:
ActionScript Code: public function chaingun(x_:int, y_:int, rot:int, cd:Number, spd:Number, sprd:Number, life:Number) { this.Cooldown = cd; this.Speed = spd;
[code]....
PS: What happens is that when I press the SPACE key, the "turret" class event handler runs the function "Shoot_Chaingun" and that function creates a new Chaingun-object (which actually is a bullet), that inherits the x, y, and rotation of the turret, along with some additional varaibles, including lifetime. Then upon creation, I use "addChild(this)" to add it to the main stage, and "removeChild(this)" once it's lifetime is up.
EDIT: And also, I just realized I don't have a MovieClip linked to this chaingun class. How do I make sure that every time a chaingun object is made, the MovieClip is also loaded?
I want to declare a variable on the main timeline that can be called from anywhere in my movie. So, _global var should be the right approach. I want to declare a movie clip 'MC1' "open", or "closed" so that when it is revisited, my flash file knows the user has been there before and performs a different task from the one it does when 'MC1' was first encountered. So, i need a 'if' statement to run from the variable, when the playhead encounters the movieClip.
This may be an obvious search, but I'm not totally sure on the proper syntax... basically what I want to do is:
private function makeISchedule(data:Array, label:String = null):ArrayCollection{ var arr:ArrayCollection = new ArrayCollection; for (var i:int = 0; i<data.length; i++){
Is this the correct, most efficient way to recycle objects when creating an array of objects?
package com { public class CreateList extends MovieClip { //this is the object I will be recycling private var newProperty:PropertyRow; //this is the array I will use to reference the objects
Is there any way to put 2 objects as the argument for a with statement. example:
[Code]...
I am aware I can use the statement like this code: with(bodyWrapper.fld){} Just wondering is there was a way of adding multiple objects to make typing shorter.
I was wondering where did go the for statement with attachMovie from library in AS 3.I mean i was having in AS 2:
for (i=0; i<5; i++) { attachMovie("sim", "sim"+i, i); }
Now in AS 3:
for (var i=0; i<5; i++) { addChild(new sim()); }
I can't figure out how to name every instance of the "sim" object from library that i add to the stage without using string.How do I dinamically name the added instances of the object from the library for future reference and usage throughout the code?
How do I align a movieclip, which width and height is user-defined, inside another object (this one is static, though). Top-left alignment is easy, x=0 and y=0, but what about center, center left, bottom left, etc? Math(.round) i suppose, but how?I want an object (static) inside the movieclip (user-defined) to stay aligned to, for instance, the top right corner, similiar to the minimize, maximize and close buttons at the top right of your browser.. The height and width data is pre-defined by the user in another file.But that does probably not make any difference...
What i am trying to attempt here is to make the variable equal to the name of an item in my library. (Im using this to use different ships in an old arcade-style vertical shooter). This is meant to make a ship appear on stage.
When <variable> is replaced with a library item (eg. mvcShip), it works fine, but if the variable is in place, i get a trace value of ship1 as "undefined", and the ship doesnt show up on the stage.
I'm trying to declare a few variables in a for statement using the variable in the for statement. In older flash versions I would use something like this.
Code: for(a=0;a<10;a++) { _root["variable"+a] = "Some text "+a;
I want to set multiple conditions for an if statement, but I don't want the conditions to all have to be true, I want to say if (a or b or c or d, etc. is true) then do this. I don't want to say if (a && b && c && d, etc. is true). Is it possible to have an if statement with an "or" in the condition? If so, what's the proper syntax for that?

I am trying to load various swfs into a main swf. The initial swf loads in by default, the others load when buttons are clicked. All of the buttons also call a lengthy function called loadpic which appears later in the code - Currently the buttons load in the swfs as required, however the swfs are always behind the initial default swf. Is there a way to add removeChild to the buttons? I have tried creating seperate functions for each button and added the line removeChild(); however doing that means I would also have to repeat all of the later functions as well. If I add removeChild(); without placing it in a function the default swf doesn't show at all.
I want to be able to drag any of the 4 objects onto any of the targets, right now all I can manage is to allow each object drop onto one specific target only.
I thought by calling all my target names by the same instance name eg target_mc that would work but only one target will ever work.
I have a movie clip on the main timeline that includes a button.When pressed, I want this button to conduct an if statement to check the contents of a textbox on the main timeline and if equal execute the statement.So far I have this but the text does not seem to 'read'. Do I need to pass the textbox contents into a string variable rather than read directly from what is in teh text?[code]
if I use in statement xml-child distinct of nameWin (summa, e. g.), it works good. But with nameWin, e4x compares local variable nameWin (which not interested for me at all at this time) with "necessary name" instead of compare item's nameWin with "necessary name".
i am trying to find out if it is possible to check on more than one variable in an if statement at a time as i am usure how, so is it possible in as2 to check on more than one varialble if answer is equal to the number 1 and answer is to the number two and also the number three perform a function
var answer1:Number =1; var answer2:Number =2; var answer3:Number =3; if(answer == 1 ) and answer == 2 and answer ==3); if(answer == 1 and answer == 2)
How can I test a undefined variablewith an if statement.all a this did not work and I don't want to define a value for this variable.name of the variable x.
I am trying to do a multiple if statement checking to determine which frame label within a MC (NE) and is located on frame 3 of the main timeline, to display. In the main timeline frame 1, I have declared a new var: var n_e; button1.onRelease = function (){ n_e1 = 1; main timeline go to and stop at frame 3 } [Code] ..... But it doesn't seem to work, and most of the time it lands up on Ne("2") instead...
I have a conditional statement (if) that I am trying to use contingent on multiple variables being true. So the AS I have right now is:
[Code]...
But when I run that I get the following error message: "Error 1050: Can not assign to a non reference value" What do I need to change so that once 1,2 and 3 have been visited visitComplete is set to true?
