ActionScript 2.0 :: Drag Inertia - Make A MC Keep Moving A Certain Amount ?
Jun 23, 2003
Does anybody know how I could make a MC keep moving a certain amount when I let go after dragging it. I want the distance it goes to be based upon how quick I moved the mouse before I let it go.

I want to imitate the iPhone scroll behavior in a Flash app I am developing. The idea is to enable drag-drop with a certain amount of inertia/deceleration (you know, when you drop something while your cursor is still moving and the thing would continue moving for a moment and then stop).
I've been trying to make a scroller, but the movieclip IS the scroller (if that makes sense?)So I have a movieclip that's, say, 1920 wide, and the stage just resizes to the browser, and when you drag the movieclip it scrolls. I have this semi-working but it's quite buggy on resize, and i also want inertia on the movieclip when it moves.
I have a square box, which is larger than the stage. The box can be moved around the stage, using the startDrag/stopDrag methods. The box starts a 0,0 and gets moved with the mouse...
ActionScript Code: board.addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, boardMiniMapLocation); public function boardMiniMapLocation(e:Event){ if(board.x >= 0){
[Code]....
In the above, the first two if statements work, it is just the last one that doesn't work.
What is supposed to happen, is when the board is dragged to the left, and it hits the boards right edge is equal to the right edge of the stage, it is supposed to not allow the board to move any more to the left.
I need to add a small amount of physics to some moving elements.I found flade, but it looks like overkill for what I'm looking for. Also, all the examples are side-views with gravity.
Basicaly, I have a top-down view, and have square shapes that I want to be able to slide along a wall when they hit it at an angle. They don't even need to rotate when they make impact. I tried comming up with my own solution, based on the relative rotations and quarants they collide on, but it is very clunky. I can't help but feel there is a better way to do this. Heck, there might even be some usefull ActionScript function that I don't know about.
Every thing is working but the Thumbnails RollOver event. If I set ThumbnailRolledOver = i; to ThumbnailRolledOver = 1; then it works but I am trying to load in 11 items and need this to be "i" if its possible. Is this something that can be done? I have seen dynamic button names but not dynamic information inside a button like this.
I have been having a serious issue with custom video where flash is saying that the amount of the video so far played is MORE than the amount that it has downloaded, which is clearly impossible. This results in various problems, such as the playhead (scrubber) moving past the end of the loader bar. I posted a simple demo that displays the amount loaded and the amount played in text fields. You can see it at: [URL][Code]...

You can see it at: URL...[code]I encoded the video at a high rate so that it would download slowly. It may not playback smoothly, which I am not concerned about. What I am concerned about is the numbers below the video what are derived from ns.bytesLoaded and ns.time. If you watch it for a bit, the amount played should exceed the amount loaded.
I double checked the video duration and the bytestotal that flash is reporting and they are correct. I don't know of any way to check the accuracy of bytesloaded.If your internet connection is super fast, you may not see the issue - it only occurs when it is playing back faster than it is downloading - if this is the case, you may need to throttle your speed down, or start downloading a large file while you are watching this demo in order to see the issue.But this is a serious issue and means that building custom video interfaces with loadbars and playheads is impossible!
I am doing a project at school which is based on google street veiw for the inside of school to enable people to have a look around the school online,I have succesfully managed to make a UI and put a 360 degree panorama of the corridors in school behind it which you can drag and drop left and right, which then loops around to the beginning when you reach the end of the panorama.My problem is that I want buttons on the doors of the corridor that you can click on to get a veiw of inside the room, but since the background is movable I need all of the buttons to move with the corridor,.
The situation is this: Im trying to make a pre-loader that displays the load amount in text as a % and has a loading bar that will only load when the movie loads. When the movie is fully loaded the loading bar fill be full and it will display 100%, when the movie is half full it will be 50% and the bar will only be half way across. If I wanted to make the loading bar a specific width how would I do it?? At the moment the bar only seams to want to be 100 wide. The script im using so far is:
I want to make a sliding gallery that plays a certain amount of frames and stops. I have this script
[Code]....
Instead of play() i have tried putting a counter in like counter 8 but it does not work. The idea is that if i click the contact button but im on the home page its scrolls over all other pages and stops on the home page.
drag and drop, basically say I got A movieclip called 'clipdrag'. the current position of the movie clip is _x=65, _y=51.
and the clipdrag movieclip is droped at say _x=200, _y=300. Bascally what i need to know is how i got about bring the clip back to its orangial position, i want to use a timer so that the user can see the clip moving back slowly.

I want to be able to display a paragraph where if the text being shown is (say) over 15 lines long, then a link text will appear and if click it will expand. Example: This is a long line for here so I need to make more display but I cant so what will (More)... <== this more link will be clicked and the rest will show up below this paragraph expanded to show the rest of it. (Close)... <== this close link will be clicked and the rest of the page will be hidden again. Can this be done in Flex? Here is a link example done in javascript [URL].
I have been trying to develop a drag and drop Mr. Potato Head type game for a couple of days now. I am new to AS3 and I have hit a roadblock that I was hoping someone out there could help me get through. My game has 3 separate menus (mouths, hats, and eyes).Each menu is a nested MC which has several dragable objects. Unfortunately, when I move to the next frame on the timeline the object I drug out resets itself and disappears. Is there any way to keep a dragable object on the stage once it has been placed there? I think my problem is more of a logic and structure issue with the way that I set up the game rather than an issue with actionscript.
i've spent lots of hours looking up the internet trying many techniques but nothing do.i just want to add inertia to my car.
var car:Car = new Car(); var power = 10; addChild(car); car.x = 470; car.y = 200; var dx = 0; var dy = 0; stage.addEventListener(KeyboardEvent.KEY_DOWN, keyhandler); function keyhandler(event:KeyboardEvent):void { switch(event.keyCode)[code].............
I'm trying to achieve a fairly simple effect--a dragging a MC with inertia.
Specifically, I'm trying to get this to happen:
1. When you click with the mouse on the MC (not the entire stage), the MC gets dragged along.
2. When you let go of the mouse button, the MC keeps going with inertia (slowly comes to a stop) that depends on the speed with which the MC was dragged and in the same direction. The MC shouldn't change directions if the unpressed mouse is moved around.
You know the effect when you drag an object and then when you let go it continues to move but slowing down. I'd like to do this to my movieclips can someone show me how?
how could i modify this script so that it has inertia, and so that i can movie diagonally? is there a better way of doing mc movement with keypresses?[code]
how to make a scrolling text box with inertia...I know there are many out there but the problem is the only ones I can find have inertia applied after you lift your finger off the button...which leads to jerky movement if you are scrolling a small section. The desired effect is like the scrolling text boxes used in www.fontsforflash.com.(they have developed a component...not good if you want to customize the look of the scroll bar) [URL].... provides an open source version of this movie clip but it again is not so easily customizable.There has got to be someone talented enough to do this and provide a tutorial for the rest of us..
