I've been trying to dynamically change some text for a titlebar that is behind a mask
However, I find that when I change the text of the dynamic text field (whose containing movieclip is masked by a graphic), the text no longer appears at all.
When i remove the masking, the text changes properly when asked, but when it it masked, the text does not show at all.

View 3 RepliesI've discovered the joy that you cannot display dynamic text boxes if they are masked.After browsing the internet I found a few things to try, first embedding the font, which I have done, and that didn't work.The other solution involves setting the mask to a display object, which I've done, sort of.I create a Sprite() in code (I use Flex Develop, and never code on the time line), then use the Sprite.graphics to draw the mask, then set my main stage movieClip's .mask property to equal this layer.
View 3 Repliesi have the AS setting the mask, and my fonts are embedded.. but the dynamic text doesnt mask my other movieclip.my dynamic text is "fly_in" MC with the text field inside. the MC label is: "headerTxt_mask" the sheen is labeled "sheenMC" and put in a layer below "headerTxt_mask" in the same "fly_in" MC then on the first frame of my scene i have:

The dynamic txt field is supposed to be the mask for the sheen, so all you see is the sheen...
I have a dynamic text box and i want to mask it but its not working. i remember once someone was showing me something that had to be done to a dynamic text box to get _alpha effects on them and I wonder if its the same thing. Problem is, I don't know what that "thing" is.

I'm sure this has been asked in some way or another a couple of times before, and sually the first response seems to be..."are your fonts embedded?" Yes, they are. I am using a couple of different tweening classes (it happens with all of them). Basically what I'm doing is a simple sliding in and sliding out animation via the x and y properties of a movieclip. It only happens to a few movieclips, but some (not all) of my dynamic textfields disappear when doing this. When I click in the area that they are supposed to be, it magically appears. I have even tried creating the masks dynamically to stop the bug with no luck. It is very sporadic, but does anyone know/have experience with how to solve this problem?

All works well as I wanted, but as th elist is too long i want to create a scroller for these, anyway when I apply the mask and test this all the text dissappears, they are there as the links all work but the text seems to have turned invisible, want am i doing worng.
I am creating each mc button dynamically like:

I want "<b>bold</b>" to be... well, let's say... bold !
I have a mask layer under which there is a text field.
The text field shows htmlText, and i must embed chars. If not embedded, it doesn't display because of the mask. So the solution of importing 2 user fonts ( one bold and one regular) does not work.

View 3 RepliesText is imported dynamically (xml) and populates to a movie clip which in turns masks other display objects on stage - Great. However, the text populating the field can be korean, and other times, english. I know from testing, latin languages will give the desired effect, but non-latin do not stand a chance. i have tried using _sans and _serif as well, without luck. Embeding Korean/Chinese/Japanese fonts is not an option, since these fonts are HUGE. What's the trick to making a dynamic text field mask?
View 1 RepliesI'm creating a playlist for a music player, and I've got the song names displaying correctly in my songTitle holder MC, but there's limited space for the song names to be shown in, and I'm going to eventually have it inside a scrolling movieclip. Problem is, the text inside the textfields disappear when I try to add a mask to the movieclip they're being loaded into. I've tried adding all combos of embedFonts, antialias, and blendModes I ran into, to no avail.how to mask dynamically created textfields with a non-dynamic (Flash IDE-made) mask.

first I had:
maskedImg = getChildByName("current") as MovieClip;

and everything worked properly. Then I removed the movieclip from the scene, exported it to Actionscript, and changed the code to
maskedImg = new mymovieclip();
addChild(maskedImg);
maskedImg.mask = mymask;
and now I don't see anything on the scene. If I comment out the line assigning the mask I can see the movieclip although. The mask is created dynamically in both cases.
I searched for a solution everywhere but cant seem to find one. I found the tutorial below on creating a dynamic mask that basically draws a mask over an image. I am basically trying to replicate the exact same effect only i need it inverted. I want to basically erase the image. Have the image there then with the mouse cursor erase the image.
I guess i would normally do this using blending modes or an actual mask on the timeline using layer but in this case the mask is drawn dynamically so im not sure the best approach. To make things easier to understand what I am trying to achieve is the effect of cutting a piece of paper using scissors and have the paper "erase" as i hover over the paper using an attached movieclip of scissors. I have everything working except the "erasing" of the paper.

This is my guess. Since each individual box is technically not on the display list, it is never rendered.Perhaps only once when you call the "container.addChild(box);" but other than that, it only displays it's old cache of the last render.

I want to create a mask from an animated line. I found out pretty quick that you can't use a line to mask, only fills. So, can I convert the line to a fill as it's being drawn? Or do I need to put multiple instances of a shape along my line at intervals?
I keep seeing requests for an animation of writing. I figured it would be easier to have the text in one layer and use the animated line as the mask. It sounded good in theory.
I've attached my test that shows the line being drawn. I was playing around with some different objects to use as masks and that's how I saw that lines can't be used as masks. I wish they could.
I am trying to dynamically load images into this slideshow. I have 2 MC's, one with an animated mask, one without. I am trying to load an image into the first MC, have the mask reveal it, then load that image into the 2nd MC which is behind this one. This way, when the next image loads and has the mask show it, the other image will still be on the stage behind the new one, and so forth.Here is the excerpt of code from where the main actions are being done..

I have seen how mask in photoshop works. However flash mask does not work like that. I want to create a effect in flash with a image dynamically. Probably involving bitmapdata. As yo can see the second image is the actual one. I want to create the first one from the second one using actionscript. But the problem is flash masking does not understand gradient mask etc.
