currently i am setting up a class to handle a movie clip, tweening from one spot to another. ActionScript 3.0 :: Events Dispatched By The Class A Doesn't Get Listened By The Main Class?

Feb 2, 2010

I have a main class which listens for an event dispatched from another class say class A. Also there are other classes say class B, class C etc.There is a controller class.Classes B, C dispatches events that gets listened by the controller and works well.But the events dispatched by the Class A doesn't get listened by the main class.What might be the problem. Detailed Explanation of the problem.There is a main mxml file.

Class files are in:
ProcessInput.as
DBController.as
ShortMemDB.as ....etc

The main mxml file gets the input from a textArea. Sends the input to the capturedInput (input:String) function using set method which is in the ProcessInput Class.Now I need to dispatch events NORMAL, COMMAND depending on the input obtained after the processing, where I'm having problems. The reason is that if the event NORMAL is dispatched a particular function inside the DBController is to be called. If COMMAND event is dispatched then I need to call another function. This idea doesn't work since the events doesn't get listened.But the events dispatched by the CSDB class when listened by the DBController works well.

Actionscript 3 :: Dispatching Events From Parent Class To Child Class

Apr 30, 2010

I think this is a pretty simply problem but I do not seem to be able to pull it off. Basically I have a parent class A, and a child class B.Class A instantiates class B with addChild.There is a shared object which is being updated from a java server (red5) that has an event listener attached to it in class A.I have a function in class A which will pass certain, specific updates from this shared object to class B.The problem occurs is that when class B is instantiated, the event listener from class A doesn't work anymore. I have not removed the event listener from A.?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Defining Classes And Constructors Methods?

Nov 24, 2009

It's not clear to me, where I have to define Classes and Constructor methods. In AS2 it was possible, to define a class "light" by defining a constructor method. In AS3, I read, a class can only be defined in an external AS-file. Is it still possible to use the constructor method inside the Flash-File or do I have to source out all my constructor methods and implement them into real classes into an external AS-File?

Flex :: Why Doesn't Mxml Support Component Constructors

Sep 22, 2011

Why doesn't the Flex framework's mxml language support a constructor for components or accept constructor arguments for components? It's as far as I know not possible to declare an ActionScript object in mxml if it takes constructor arguments. I'm curious about the reason. Is it a design choice by Adobe or related to how declarative languages work? For example, why not allow:

<myNameSpace:MyComponent constructor="{argArray}"/>

ActionScript 3.0 :: Can't Override Or Overload Constructors Of Derived Classes Correct?

Nov 19, 2008

Is my understanding that there are no Abstract classes and you can't override or overload constructors of derived classes correct? Abstract classes aren't important for me but if it's possible I'd like to know how. But is there a way to overload default constructors and I'm just doing something wrong? Can we only override methods or can we overload them also.For a simple game I'm making, I'm not using FlexBuilder and don't want to for this project for specific reasons, so I'm using Flash and instead of using sprites and bitmaps I want to draw shapes in Flash and covert them into MovieClip symbols which I "link" for export as AS to use in my code. I want to make it a little modular so I can just change certain aspects of the code for different approaches.If I create a class Actor which extends MovieClip the default constructor has to be Actor() with no arguments. But I'd like my class to be able to have arguments like initial x and y coordinates. I know you can just create methods to initialize each part but I'd like to try and have a default constructor to do so.

In Flash I notice that if you derive a written class or built in class it requires the standard default constructor, "which I may be wrong about and I hope I am and someone could show me what I'm doing wrong", I found if you derive a class based on a symbol you linked for export as AS I can create a new constructor with whatever argument(s) I want (so this is why I'm making this post,if I can do this couldn't there be a way to override
constructors?).

1) So I create a base class called Actor which extends MovieClip save it as Actor.as and default constructor of Actor() add whatever properties I want.

2) Then I create an object in my library, let's call it mcShip, then I link that symbol for export as ActionScript and have it's base class as Actor and name the class ShipMC.

3) I then create a new .as file and call this one ShipActor.as, this class ShipActor extends ShipMC and then I create a default constructor ShipActor(gs:GameScreen, xA:Number,
yA:Number) and this works fine (also I create a method in Actor class called ActorSuper and call it from ShipActor with passed in arguments, since I don't know of a way to overload the parent class' constructor)

If I were to just have my mcShip with a base class of flash.display.MovieClip and I try to create ShipActor with the constructor above it says missing default constructor. The above 3 steps is the only way I can get it to work for now. Is there a way to overload the constructor? If not are there any other work arounds?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Events Into A Class?

Aug 28, 2009

My FLA has a class instantiated in it and I can call the public functions in that class no problem. What does not seem to work, is to dispatch an event in the FLA and the class to register it. Is that how it is? Seems that from inside the class outward is no problem. So, from child to parent, works, but not the other way around. The event that I am dispatching on the FLA timeline looks like this:

dispatchEvent(new Event("SHOW_TIP"));

ActionScript 3.0 :: Passing Events Out Of A Class?

Apr 28, 2009

So I've created a custom class which makes use of a Sound object. The Sound object loads a sound from a URL, and I attach and event listener to it to see it when it finishes loading i.e. Event.Complete

MY question is this: how do I receive this event outside of the class? For instance, I want to be able to create an instance of my class somewhere else, load a sound and attach an event listener to my custom class that listens for the event thrown by the sound. Understandably, I don't want to make the sound object a public variable.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Events From One Movie Clip To Another Class?

Nov 5, 2010

There is a bad gap in my knowledge with Event Dispatch and Event architecture, and this problem proves it.

[URL]

Click on "Flash Banners"

The two thumbnails represent two different classes. Each class is identical. Both are "extends Movie Clip" classes. Tweeners of various types control the hover and click methods. URL Loaders load the thumnails which I then wrap in MC's and make them buttonMode = true, etc. Hover and click to load the Banners on the thumbnails.

The problem is this: - I can't send an event from the Eagle movie clip or the T2D movie clip to tell the other to fade out. Both Banner classes are instantiated through a separate Base class. I'm sure this has to be an Event Dispatch from one MC to another and that it can't be done by the Base class. how I can send an Event or Event Dispatch and what the code structure is so one movie clip can in one class can tell the other movie clip in the other class to disappear while it's neighbour is playing.

Flex :: Dispatching Events From External Class?

Dec 21, 2011

I have a main application Planner.mxml. This view has a couple of custom components, one of which is LoginView.mxml. In LoginView.mxml I do the following:

protected function btnLoginClick(event:MouseEvent):void
{
try
{

[code]....

As you can see, when the user is successfully logged in, I want to dispatch a custom event; if not, I show an alert box. However, this event doesn't dispatch (or at least, I don't know how to listen for it).

I would like to listen for it in my main application where I can then change my viewstate to the logged-in state. However, the event never seems to get there. I listen for it by having loggedIn="loggedInHandler(event)" on my loginComponent.

ActionScript 3 :: Class Raising Non Custom Events?

Jan 23, 2012

I'm using ActionScript 3 in Flash Professional and I'd like my class to raise an event, not a custom event but an existing one. I've set up my class so that it extends EventDispatcher. In the documentation [URL] the example declares a custom event by adding a static String variable:
class CustomDispatcher extends EventDispatcher {
public static var ACTION:String = "action";

I assume that enables:
dispatcher.addEventListener(CustomDispatcher.ACTION, actionHandler);
Or at least auto-complete when you've typed 'dispatcher.addEventListener(' into the Flash Professional IDE.

But lots of classes that raise events raise a mixture of existing noncustom events. For example if you have an instance of a flash.netFileReference and type
fileRef.addEventListener(

A long list of potential events to listen for is given including DataEvent.UPLOAD_COMPLETE_DATA, Event.SELECT, HTTPStatusEvent.HTTP_STATUS, SecurityErrorEvent.SECURITY_ERROR, etc.

If I want my class to be registered to raise those existing events, what code do I need? Preferably so that the IDE knows instances of my class may raise the event and suggests them in the addEventListener auto-complete/intellisense list.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Library Class Override Events?

Jul 16, 2009

I'm having a total brain fart right now because I haven't dealt with AS2 library linkage classes in a while. I want to be able to let a designer assign an object in the library to a specific class and have that class listen for changed _x and _y values.I have the class made up that extends MovieClip:

Code:
class CoordinateMonitor extends MovieClip {
public function CoordinateMonitor () {}
}

But I draw a blank now on how I'm to monitor _x and _y values for the clip. I'm pretty sure I remember it being possible to do this and declaring an overriding function ("public function set _x(val:Number) { super._x = val; }") does not work as intended.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Dispatching Events From Static Class?

Aug 3, 2010

However, it seems to me as I've started building this (or trying, rather) that there's no way this can be done, but I'm sure I'm wrong. Since the static class is never added as an instance to the display list, the stage (or any object for that matter) will never hear any events it dispatches.I've searched and found this, but that doesn't seem to be the right solution since I'm listening for my custom LinkEvent event from the stage, and *not* in the class calling the dispatch function in the static dispatcher class.And to reiterate, the goal is to have a single class I can use throughout my application that dispatches my custom LinkEvent event with two properties: linkURL, and linkTarget.The whole reason for wanting to do this is so I can have some control over what happens (to track, or do some other behavior) when someone clicks on a link created within an htmlText TextField with an <a>
