Feb 18, 2005I'm trying to import some text from a txt file and make it scroll if it needs to. I've been able to make text scroll and import text, just never both at the same time.

Create Scrolling Text Areas With Rich Text Format Content?
May 14, 2009Noob question, I hope. I need to create scrolling text areas with rich text format content. I know I can use the textArea component and set the htmlText property but converting all of my RTF to HTML is gonna be a major pain in the @$$. I keep getting into trouble thinking what's mindlessly easy in Director/Lingo is gonna be reasonably simple in Flash/AS3, I hoping this is just my inexperience with Flash getting in the way. Is there an easier way? I thought of embedding a PDF document but apparently that's not an option in Flash either (note: I know how to link a PDF doc, I need this text to display and scroll within the application, not just pop a new window on top).

I want to import the variables from the text file.I can do that, but I also want to create a loop that will iterate through the text file and create the variables. Basically I store data such as time of the note, note duration, pitch, scale, volume, etc.I have 2 questions:How can I export all these data in order to use it in after effects (as a txt file? other formats?);How do I use the exported file in After Effects later on: How do I tell After Effects when to start playing a note in a specific time? how do I associate note height with a specific feature (lets say - square width) - and so on.I DO know some basic coding in after effect (how to associate elements inside After - such as volume and opacity) but I need to understand how to deal with an exported file (and in which format to generate it).

On the Ecard is a form to fill out, your name, your email, a comment, and the name and email to the person you are sending the ecard to.[URL].. When you push the "Submit"-button it sends an email to the receiver, and it creates a .txt file on my server with the info.
The .txt-file has a unique name generated by:

I can use an import statement such as:

Jan 7, 2011I am an animator who does a little actionscript from time to time (enough to get me in trouble) but am at a newbie lite experience stage. I have flash 8 (actionscript 2). I have formulated a calculator for my boss (not in animation, unfortunately) that has some very simple flash maths. I have previously loaded text into a swf from an external text file into a dynamic text box � easy enough. But in my simple calculator I�d like to add a pricing schedule which I can edit externally (without Flash, simply edit the text file) to change the prices on some stuff. Can this be done? Every time I try using the loadVariablesNum or LoadVars approach my calculations come up with a NaN error. I suspect you can�t load characters that are recognised as numbers from an external text file. Can I do it with XML (I have some very basic understanding) or do I need to use php and mySQL?

Feb 4, 2011I have a simple text field that is read only and it's very long, so I just want to use a scrollbar on the right-hand side. I dragged a UIScrollbar component to this text area, I lined it up, same height, and even named the text area as the scrollbar's target, but when I compile the swf, I get a blank scrollbar next to the text and 2 other scrollbars off the the right of the text!!! I also tried adding the scrollbar via code with the same results.
