ActionScript 2.0 :: FMX StartDrag Not Snapping To Centre?
Jul 18, 2003Is there a way to have the startDrag command not lock to the centre of a MC but to have it snap and drag from a set location, ie _x and _y positions, on a MC.

View 8 RepliesJust a quick one. Using AS3, how would I ensure that a movieClip always stays in the centre of the stage on resize?
View 1 Repliesi have an .as class that extends mx.containers.Canvas (it's a draggable border of a resizable component), it becomes draggable on MOUSE_DOWN and stops being draggable on MOUSE_UP, MOUSE_OUT and ROLL_OUT. before calling startDrag() i create a Rectangle to define the drag area, i also have a _dragging: Boolean variable to control if it's draggable at the moment. the problem is that when i click this border it jumps to a negative coordinate without calling startDrag or switching _dragging to true.
i've overriden get x, set x, get y, set y and move() methods in order to solve it but the only thing i got was the fact that position changes without calling coords setters or move(), but at the moment it's changed a getter is called and returns new (negative) value so my question is what happens on startDrag() and how to filter unwanted incoming coords values?
as you can see, I have a container MC which I have added to the stage. I set its drag constraints using a Rectangle(). I then add the 'cat' child movieclip to the container, and I want this to be dragable too. However, as soon as I click on my cat when testing the MC. It shoots to point x=0 y=0 on the stage and doesn't move.
The container MC can be moved without any trouble.
If I remove the rectangle bounds from the containers startdrag() function. both MC's can be dragged without any issue.
//panning ability
my_x = 800 - myImage.width;
my_y = 480 - myImage.height;

There's not that I can't do this, I just want the best way on how to. I want to create a grid in as3 and draggable items that snap to the grid. I guess you all know what I mean. The best way seems to create small boxes like explained in URL... Then add an addeventlistener to it that when the draggable item hits it, the x and y need to be set. Or is there an easier way?
View 4 RepliesSo I'm displaying data with a tilelist and a scrollbar. I want the use of the scrollbar, but I don't want totally free scrolling. For the rows I'm displaying vertically, I don't want to be showing like half a row, I want it to snap. I know this can be achieved with the up / down buttons of the scrollbar, but that's not the way I want it to work How would I be able to ensure that only a full row can be shown when scrolling?I've taken a look at the event you get when you subscribe to ScrollEvent from <TileList>.verticalScrollbar and they run through fl.controls::ScrollBar/handleThumbDrag and l.controls::Scrollbar/setScrollPosition before getting there, which obviously sets how the tilelist should be displayed.
View 3 RepliesI have a simple character rigging system that I'm working on and I'm running into a bit of a snag. I am trying out the system with a new character animation which has more subtle movements which flash appears to be using pixel snapping on. The result is that, since the eyes, nose, and mouth are all separate pieces and children of the head, their pixel positions are all being snapped a little differently and it looks like the pieces are just floating around on the face.
More background: The assets are SWF files loaded in at run time, they are not cached as bitmap, the issues only appear with small movements that make single pixel differences noticeable, the same animation loaded in as one swf and not rigged looks fine, but this is likely because that swf's x and y position is not changing, just the assets in it. It seems to me like flash is treating the loaded in facial assets as bitmaps with pixel snapping turned on.
i have a made adrag and drop situation where someone is cooking a steak. the pan has the instance name of triangle_mc and and the food has an instance name of triangle_mc the script below works fine.

I have a floor plan and I need to implement snapping on the walls. The walls are made with lineTo method.
View 1 RepliesI'm outputting some dynamic text, and I'm in desperate need of figuring out a way to display an image beneath it, and to dynamically display so it's always at the bottom of the text. The image is another line of text that is styled so I can't simply write it into the box.
View 3 RepliesI've got a movie clip that's basically a grid with small little boxes that total 84 rows, and 20 columns...I'm trying to get the user to be able to snap to the y position of one of the small little boxes.You click on a square, and position it over one of the small boxes in the grid, but it always snaps "wrong". I've tried --square_on_grid.y = Math.round(square_y/g_gridSpacing) * g_gridSpacing;
View 7 RepliesI have an imported png in a 'info_icon' symbol. I have another imported png in a 'info_content' symbol.
I have some code that allows you to drag an instance of a 'map' symbol around. Inside this map symbol are instances of 'info_icon' and 'info_content'.
When I drag the map slowly, I can see the info_icon instances and info_content instances, jiggle ever so slightly...I think to line up to pixels.
how to stop that. I'm looking at the pixelSnapping property and it doesn't seem to be helping..
info_button_mc.pixelSnapping = PixelSnapping.NEVER;
How would I go about snapping the mouse cursor to the centre of an MC when it is clicked upon (thus picking it up)? using a event.target.startDrag
ActionScript Code:
if (event.target.name == myEvent) {
if (event.target.currentFrame != 2){
event.target.startDrag();

I've googled out a lot of different stuff on this matter but nothing seems to work. I have a Sprite object which is used as a main container for other objects.The lowermost child of this sprite is a Bitmap which represents a background, the upper ones are MovieClips. These movie clips contain bitmaps. There are also DropShadow filters applied to these movie clipsThe problem is that when the main container moves, e.g. 1.3 pixels to to the right or to the left (doesn't matter) all those objects (movie clips contained inside of it) move like they snap to pixels. Well,it's obvious, they do. But is it possible to avoid pixel snapping for movie clips and sprites?I tried to set pixelSnapping of the bitmaps inside those MovieClips to "never", but it doesn't work. Removing all filters or drawing movie clip to bitmapdata doesn't help either.
View 3 RepliesI'm trying to make a gallery where the user can move the cursor to the left and right to have the images slide in that direction. I also want to have the image that's in focus snap to the screen after about 2-3 seconds of the cursor staying around the center.
View 1 RepliesI am trying to snap 2 vector points together but for some reason its moving the entire object instead of the point. I am trying to follow instructions in a book and the book shows that it is using the solid (filled) selection tool and it has the magnet turned on for snap options. It shows I am suppose to click where the (right triangle) appears beside the mouse arrow and then snap. but it keeps moving the entire Object even with the (right triangle) appear beside the mouse arrow. what could I be doing wrong ??
View 2 RepliesI have multiple points on a Google map that i need to pinpoint.How would i find the two points that are farthest away from each other and get my map center an zoom accordingly?[code]Just copy and paste into root time line to test
View 1 RepliesI have seen a couple of flash movies of late that have a nifty element to them, when the user resizes his window the movie slides to the centre or relative position, rather than snapping.THIS SITE is one example of the effect I mean When you resize your window the text moves gradually to a relative position.How is this done? is it via action scripting or through the html/java?It is a nice little touch, I like it. Do you think if you can dictate the position of certain elements you can dictate the size of elements according to window size?

I have a compass that is rotating depending on the position of the mouse, however it rotates it from the top left of the stage not the movie clip, how to get the AS to recognise the centre of the compass.. Also, I thought a nice touch would be if the compass had a slight "wobble"
i am struggling to work something out here and am hoping that someone on here can put me right...i have a flash movie that uses a liquid type layout (ie all from top left to fill the stage) - part of the movie is a navigation that when clicked slides around the stage to set positions.the problem is that the nav co-ordinates (points it travels to) are all based around top left of the stage, and i need to make it work from the centre of the stage.this is an example of one slide actions on one of the buttons named CLEAR:
PHP Code:
panel.CLEAR.onRelease = function(){

I have been struggling with the affect the browser zoom level has on my application for days. Finally I built the below test swf and noticed that when user zoom in using the browser zoom (IE 8) the box centering stopped working correctly.Movie with moviclip named box and button named mybtn with three text fields:

View 3 RepliesI'm new to AS and trying to learn new stuff by going through Kirupa's tuts and old threads, I came across this image resize from Best of Kirupa.url..At the moment all loading images as well as frame are resizing with top left corner always in fixed position. I've been trying to amend the existing AS, so both frame and images always stay and do the resizing at horizontal centre of the movie?
View 8 Repliesthought I'd posted this but clearly not I created a rectangle and in the centre using the text tool places the number 1 try as I might I cannot find an easy way to centre the number in relation to the rectangle behind it. Is there an easy way? tried the alignment tools but failed
View 1 RepliesI've ceated 18 buttons 1-18 on two rows and using the alignment tool made then all gapped the same and in line etc. I now want to centre the two rows of buttons on the stage. I've shift clicked to select all the buttons but no matter what option I pick in window alignment I can't get it to work.
View 2 RepliesI've created an mc which functions as my map and controls to go with that which allow the map to be moved around and key points navigated to and zoomed in on at varying zoom levels.I'm using scaleX and scaleY to scale the map mc and a list of x and y positions to correctly position the map for each key point. The map mc starts at 1:1 scale ratio with the screen and it's registration point is at 0,0.When I want to go to a certain area I perform this calculation (offsetX and offsetY are the center of the screen and posX and posY are predined offsets on the map):[code]
I now need to implement a zoom in / out function and this is what I'm struggling with. The zoom should use the center of the screen as the reg point for the scale, so I've been trying something along the lines of the following to get the correct x and y position to set after the scale:[code]I know this is wrong but I've shown this to give you an idea of my train of thought, I need to work out what the new x and y will be to ensure that the area that is being zoomed in on, stays in the center of the screen.So in my mind this gets the distance from the current position of the map relative to the center point of the screen (offsetX, offsetY) then scales that distance by the new scale.
