ActionScript 2.0 :: [Flash] Blending/Fading Movieclips?
Sep 23, 2009
Below I have actionscript that plays movieclips in my library at random. How can I add to this to blend(fade) the movieclips into each other so that when the movieclip is done, it doesnt fade to white it simply fades/blends into the next movieclip/slide?
Code:
var MCs = new Array("mc1", "mc2", "mc3", "mc4", "mc5");
var selectedMC = MCs[Math.floor(Math.random() * MCs.length)];

I've got two SWF files where one control what happens in the other using LocalConnect and would like to use opacity changes to make a nice transition between two movieclips in the receiving file. I want the two movieclips to fade nicely so I can't animate it because that would make a brake just as i hit the button.
This is the code in the SWF that sends the information.
Code:
btn01.onRelease = function() {
var sending_lc:LocalConnection = new LocalConnection();
sending_lc.send("lc_name", "methodToExecute", {targetName:"mc01", action:"play01"});
};

I'm trying to fade in and out some movie clips using the Tween class, but am having problems. I have the following code which fades in my movie clips:
Code:
import fl.transitions.Tween;
import fl.transitions.easing.*;
// Fade in and out
var myTween1:Tween = new Tween(wds_mt, "alpha", Regular.easeIn, 0, 0.5, 100, false);
var myTween2:Tween = new Tween(wds_sf, "alpha", Regular.easeIn, 0, 0.5, 150, false);
var myTween3:Tween = new Tween(wds_hush, "alpha", Regular.easeIn, 0, 0.5, 120, false);
var myTween4:Tween = new Tween(wds_10, "alpha", Regular.easeIn, 0, 0.5, 300, false);
var myTween5:Tween = new Tween(wds_uf, "alpha", Regular.easeIn, 0, 0.5, 210, false);
However, I need to fade them out and then loop the fade in-out animation forever.

I have 36 instances of one movieclip (called panel1, panel2...panel36) that I want to fade and unfade depending on whether the mouse has rolled over that one instance, I tried this code, which works when there is only one instance, but not when multiple.
Code:

The following actionscript is some that I got from lostinbeta from an alpha fade question I had, that works fine but I now would like to have the movieclips get smaller at the same time as fading. So I put in some code that went like this

//set the transform
mc._xscale = (i*10);
mc._yscale = (i*10);

I'm trying to trigger some events (fading of nearby movieclips) based on cue points of a currently playing FLV. I'm using the FLVPlayback component (not Netstream) and have added cue points from inside flash (so they're "Actionscript" type). I actually found a nice article here: [URL] but it's AS2. To put it simply, let's say I have the following:
1) FLVPlayback component which has a parameter called "movie.flv" for the clip that it's supposed to play.
2) The instance of the component is called "movie_inst".
3) There are 2 cue points added through the component's parameters rollout, one called "point1", another called "point2".
What's the simplest code to tell flash "when you get to point1 I want you to do ___"?

I'm still new to flash and I'm working on image transition. I have 3 movie clips on the main stage, frame 1. The 3 clips are called 'mc1', 'mc2' and 'mc3'. I've managed to load images in to the 3 movie clips by calling a php script (Select.php) to pass the image paths back to my flash movie in an array. This is all the actionscript I have on frame 1:
Code:
myVars = new LoadVars()
// Load the vars from the external Php file
myVars.load("Select.php")
myVars.onLoad = function(success) {
// Split the variables
[Code] .....
This seems to work ok. Now I want to fade the images in rather than have them just pop up. I think I'll need to put in some kind of pause to wait until the images are loaded before I try any fading but I don't know how to do that. What I need to do to fade my images in once they have loaded rather than just have them pop up?

I'm new to the whole flash thing and I'm learning on flash 8 - In photoshop you can group layers so that the blending mode you use on a layer will only apply to the layers in that group... I've been searching all over, and maybe it's right in front of me, but does flash have a way of isolating the selected blending mode to just the layers or objects of the user's choice?

I can't work out why - but when I try to fade out some text (by calling fadeoutSecondText), the text fades out, and then immediately fades back in. Fading in and out struggle against each other, resulting in rapidly flashing text!

I have a number of objects (represented as DisplayObjects) that I wish to blend with each other. However behind these objects there is a background that i do not want to involve in the blending. So basically I want to blend these objects with eachother and afterwards use the result of this blending as a new DisplayObject (for example to put it on top of a randomly colored background).
So what I have is:
var obj1:DisplayObject = getFirstObj();
var obj2:DisplayObject = getSecObj();
var background:DisplayObject = getBackground();
obj1.blendMode = BlendMode.ADD;
obj2.blendMode = BlendMode.ADD;
At first attempt I tried was putting these objects into a common DisplayObjectContainer hoping that blending mode would only be relative to all objects contained by the same DisplayObjectContainer, but this does not seem to be the case.
var objectsPool:Sprite = new Sprite();
objectsPool.addChild( obj1 );
objectsPool.addChild( obj2 );
addChild( background );
addchild( objectsPool );

I'm finding a lot of problems trying to do a large-scale and complex 3D interface, and most movieclips are parented once if not several times. This is the only way that I see to be able to manage having a number of movieclips move and rotate together with common anchor points. But one of the problems with this is not being able to set different blendModes of child clips. Yes, yes, I usually try and avoid parenting for that reason which is much easier in 2D. But if there is no way to "force" or "pass-through" blendingModes of clips with parent(s), please explain to me how I can have a number of button objects that I can easily move and rotate together around 3D space, but also have independently changeable blendModes for rollover states etc?

When I draw a perfectly rectangular sprite, where all the corners land on perfect integer locations, then there is no problem. However when my sprite as an irregular shape ( with diagonal lines ), or it does not land on perfect integer locations, then Flash does some kind of blending / smoothing around the edges. This is bad.
Here is an example:
ActionScript Code:
var s:Shape;
s= new Shape();
s.graphics.beginFill(0x0000ff, 1);
s.graphics.moveTo(0, 0);
[Code] .....
And here is an image of what the above produces:
From the code, I drew a green rectangle and blue one, both with a slight skew. So the only 2 colors I want to see are blue and green. But you can see from the image, that along the diagonal of the shapes, there is some kind of blending going on. Flash is using a light green, and a light blue in certain places. Presumably this makes things look better, but I need to prevent this. I need each pixel to be either green or blue or nothing (white). How can I stop Flash from blending the pixels like its doing?

Solved HERE: [URL] It's a mashup from two inspirations. Basically I'm using PV3D to add pixels to the scene everyframe and I have an BitmapEffectLayer handling their display. At the moment I am using a ColorMatrixFilter to fade out the pixels each frame and then add new ones. This is great but I also want additive blending (so when many pixels are on top of each other they turn white).
The original 2D version of this basically added the particles color to the original pixel color creating an additive blend. But I can't do that in 3D!!! Once the old pixels have been drawn they go to the BitmapEffectLayerand are rendered in 2D.. but I can go from 2D back to 3D again.. I hope I have explained my problem clearly.. also even if I could my skill doesn't permit me to do it..

Inside movieClip container, there are colored buttons on layer1 and on layer2 there is movieClip square which covers the buttons. I want to use the color efffects and blending options of movieClip square to make layer 1 alpha. There are some blending options called alpha, difference, lighten and substract but Im not getting the right combinations. I want to make layer1 alpha only by using layer2.

I've been using a pipeline of copying complex vector data from Adobe Illustrator and pasting it into Flash Professional.In most instances, especially in the first instance, the colors during the import will remain the same, but sometimes they come in faded.This has happened across several versions of both software.This is the typical AI Import dialog, with layers not maintained and vector.it could potentially save me a lot of time I usually spend tweaking back to it's AI appearance.

I followed this tutorial and I couldn't manage to get it to function. I'm new to flash and I'm thinking the reason it didn't work is because I used a different ActionScript method. I used AS3, is there another type I should be using? Or is the coding different from the version used in the tutorial to CS4?

I have created a flash pro cs5 movie with several key frames in and as the movie plays, it moves onto the next keyframe - each keyframe uses the same template but with a different picture in each. Also each keyframe has buttons in of which are all identical as well and stay in the same place as the movie plays.
As the movie plays and the picture in each keyframe changes I want each one to fade out then in to the next picture. I can see that you can do this in Flash Catalyst but can this be done in Flash Pro? I can not see how I can import the swf file into catalyst then fade each of the pictures which is tied up in a single swf file?

When I try to fade in sound with the function below. It just doesn't work and I can't figure out where the problem is. I would like to fade in a looping sound but nothing happens. This is used to play a sound via events
Code:
dispatchEvent(new CustomEventSound(CustomEventSound.PLAY_SOUND, Main.SOUND_AMBIENT, false, true, false, 999999, 0, 0, setSoundVolume));
This is the function to play a sound. the stop-function is almost identical to this one.
Code:
public function playSound(soundName:String, isSoundTrack:Boolean = false, fadeIn:Boolean = false, fadeOut:Boolean = false,
loops:int = 1, offset:Number = 0, volume:Number = 1):void {

I've read through several tutorials but I must be doing something wrong on this. I'm using Adobe Flash Pro CS4. I am trying to create a short clip that fades text in over a bacground video. When I create a motion tween on the text track, I'm generating an error and the background video is no longer visible in the preview. Instead, I see the text over the stage background color. It is as if the background video track has switched to wireframe. Here are the steps I've followed:
1. Created Flash File (ActionScript 3.0).
2. Imported Video into the State background layer - it appears as a black image in the it previews fine at that point
3. Created new layer for text and placed text - it previews fine at this point, text is overlaying video
4. I right click on the text block and choose convert to symbol.
5. Next with the play head on the first frame and the Text layer selected I choose Create Motion Tween. This is when AFP throws this error:TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference. at fl.video::UIManager/http://www.adobe.com/2007/flash/flvplayback/internal::hookUpCustomComp onents() at [code]...
