ActionScript 2.0 :: Loading Actions From A Text Box
Aug 14, 2005having a dynamic text box set the actions for an object, so the user can see whats going on. Any ideas?

I mean... loading external text that by clicking on a word or phrase an onRelease action can be assigned to it.
an example I've seen is in tobymac.com in the news menu , the scrapbook section. the text is loaded from external file and it have an action. It works just as any button in flash

Jun 19, 2011I have a series of frames one the timeline. Each frame has a graphic and a mouse click leads to the next frame. Think Myst.

When the middle frame is returned to, clicks no longer change anything. I believe that the actions of the 'left' frame are replacing the one's in the middle frame so then it is told to gotoAndStop to itself.
I'd like to know if that is indeed what is happening and how I can make it stop.
ActionScript 3 :: Change The Text Dynamically From The Actions?
May 21, 2009I'm having a text box on my stage and I want to change the text dynamically from the actions.What I did was:
1. Create a text box a put it on stage
2. convert it to symbol. It is an instance of volPercent and the name is volPercent_
3. I put this code on the actions for that frame
volPercent_.text = "[100%]";
The error I get is 1120: Access of undefined property volPercent.

Mar 15, 2003I am using Flash5 to build a site. I have a main page with navigation bar to get around. The word "menu" is sitting on the right of the stage which contains the actions:
on(press) {
gotoandplay("expand")
}
which opens the nav bar on the bottom of screen. This works fine. However, the text was blurry on my site, so I switched the text from static to dynamic text, which solved the blurriness problem.
BUT, after switching the text, I discovered my "menu' button is not behaving as before.
Can one assign actions to dynamic text? If not, what do I do to still have legible text? Again, the menu bar and other links were working fine, but when switched to dynamic text, none of the navigation works.

Jun 23, 2009I found a thread on actionscript.org that showed a way to load functions from text in a dynamic text box. It works using "asfunction". I tried it and it worked.However, load that dynamic text into a TextArea component and it doesn't call the function anymore! Is there a way to do it?

May 8, 2011I have started to use input texts and passing them to outputs etc.I was wondering, is there a way in AS2, to, for example if someone enters a value that's between 150 and 200. Accepts it, and the code somehow recognizes the range if value from 150 to 200, perform a function (for example setProperty on something to visible true) a different function would apply if someone enters a value between 100 to 150.

Jun 11, 2005I am trying to make a search interface that behaves much like searching in iTunes and Spotlight in that the list is updated instantly as the user types something in the search field. However, I would like the lines that result to be clickable and to fire actions inside flash (as opposed to launching an URL). Is this possible?I've gotten the basics down. Here's what it looks like and here's the source FLA file. The results are displayed as tabbed lines of text in a single text field. Is there any way to make these lines clickable without replacing this way of displaying the results with multiple, duplicated button/mc-intances?

Jul 28, 2007I have a movie clip instance on the stage called textContainer_mc.
On frame 25 in this mc I have a dynamic text field with an instance name of infoText_txt.
Im trying to access the text field via my actions frame on the root timeline like this;

textContainer_mc.infoText_txt.text="welcome";
The problem is if I put the text field on frame 1 of the textContainer_mc the text field shows but if its on frame 25 it doesnt.
I need it on frame 25 because I want the text to show up after an animation has played.In other words I want the textfield to stall from showing until the animation inside textContainer_mc has finished playing which takes 25frames.

Nov 29, 2009I have a class that loads data from a text file and puts it into an array called tdv.importedTxtArray (public var).In a separate class i have written [code]The infoArray does not then contain the imported text however because tdv.importedTxtArray is not given its popper contents until about 1/2 a second after the tdvLoader class executes (i.e: when Event.COMPLETE is run and the array is populated with strings from the external text file). Subsequently in the code above infoArray is set to a blank array.How can i get the code in my separate class to ''wait' until tdv.importedTxtArray is properly populated before accessing it.

Jul 14, 2010in my projects i often use some xml files to load external text that i can format in css and it worked fine till now..i have a site that i am prograaming in italian and german and in both languages there is much text that contains special characters as "à " "ò" "è" "ù" "ä" "ü" and so on .. the problem is that when i write some text with this special characters in xml when the text is loaded in the flash this special characters are not recognised and instead of them a small square is displayed ..
i tryed to load the text from a html file instead of a xml file (because in HTML i know how to write theese special characters and let them display right in my html pages .. for example à = à but no way .. the flash now loades the text à instead of à ..

I have one dynamic text field called "content_txt"
I have 3 buttons with 3 different instance names (btn1 btn2 btn3)
I have 3 text documents in a folder (1.txt 2.txt 3.txt)
I am able to have 1.txt loaded into content_txt, but here is the problem.
I would like btn2 to load 2.txt and btn3 to load 3.txt into content_txt.
I have looked for an answer for this problem (and found many close answers) but when I try and make my code fit, it just doesn't work. I'm really new to this so any help would be amazing. (or if this has been answered somewhere else and I have missed it..

The trick is that I want it to randomly load a different chunk of text in each time the user opens the site. There are about 25 different small pieces of text I want to randomly load.

it showing like x2 where as it has to show like x to the power of 2.so what should i do to display the text like this ...

Sep 7, 2004I have a dynamic text box that is loading in a text file. It seems to be doing this perfectly well. However, some HTML tags seem to break it. <b> makes the text dissapear. I tried doing a <span> on it, and changing the font-family with CSS, but I dont think its reading the CSS at all.

Apr 29, 2009I'm loading some external text dynamically. Before I've always added the text to a textbox which is already on the stage. Now I'm adding the textbox with actionscript too but it's cutting off the exterally loading text at the height of the textbox (I know this because I am scrolling the text). There must be some property of the textbox which I haven't setwhat it is?Btw, I don't want to just change the height of the textbox as I am loading in many different texts of different lengths and this is affecting the scrolling.
