ActionScript 2.0 :: MovieClip-derived Object Not Appearing?
Aug 24, 2004
Ach. I have a class that extends MovieClip called AxonClip, and a class that extends AxonClip called Target. I create several new Target objects like so:
Code:
Targets[i] = new Target("Targ"+i);
Targets[i].attachMovie("TargetArt", "TarGuy"+i, iDepth);
Here's the example: var cartesian:CartesianChart = new CartesianChart(); cartesian.width = 100; var column:ColumnChart = new ColumnChart(); column = cartesian as ColumnChart; Why does this not work? "column" ends up null. ColumnChart is a derived class of CartesianChart, so I would have thought I'd end up with a ColumnChart with a width of 100.
Above is a pic of a combo box loded with values. Id like to have it so when you mouse over the dropdown, a hover descripition of the value the mouse is currently on appears on the screen. I have it complete for the most part...but as you can see, the description displays behind the dropdown. Ive tried this.setChildIndex(textDescription, this.numChildren - 1)" and no luck.
the flaw of this code is, after the marker detected, yes, the 3D object got rendered. but after the marker were not detected, the object still appeared on the screen (even though it did not move)
When I click on pix01 there is the clip01 appearingThe problem is that when I click on pix02 (it is the same when I click on pix03) before the clip02 appears there is a black backgroundbecause the clip01 disappear and I would like that the clip02 appears on clip01I don t want a black background. I would like for exemple that when after clicking on pix02 to see the clip02 and after when I clickon pix03 the clip03 appears on clip02 and after when I click on pix01 the clip01 appears on clip03...
I created custom component that not derived from UIComponent. And I want to make live preview. It's works fine - I can change properties and live preview shows them immidiatally. But there's some problem - if I override 'width' and 'height' properties and run application - the width and height that I changed on properties panel in IDE are not kept. Properties that changed through component inspector saves. So, how can I save width and height of my component changed through properties panel?
I'm trying to create a series of Loaders in a for loop whose names are created from an Array.If "eval" existed in AS3, the code might look something like this:
var i:int; var tnArray:Array = new Array("tn0","tn1", "tn2"); for (i = 1; i <= 10; i++){
Is my understanding that there are no Abstract classes and you can't override or overload constructors of derived classes correct? Abstract classes aren't important for me but if it's possible I'd like to know how. But is there a way to overload default constructors and I'm just doing something wrong? Can we only override methods or can we overload them also.For a simple game I'm making, I'm not using FlexBuilder and don't want to for this project for specific reasons, so I'm using Flash and instead of using sprites and bitmaps I want to draw shapes in Flash and covert them into MovieClip symbols which I "link" for export as AS to use in my code. I want to make it a little modular so I can just change certain aspects of the code for different approaches.If I create a class Actor which extends MovieClip the default constructor has to be Actor() with no arguments. But I'd like my class to be able to have arguments like initial x and y coordinates. I know you can just create methods to initialize each part but I'd like to try and have a default constructor to do so.
In Flash I notice that if you derive a written class or built in class it requires the standard default constructor, "which I may be wrong about and I hope I am and someone could show me what I'm doing wrong", I found if you derive a class based on a symbol you linked for export as AS I can create a new constructor with whatever argument(s) I want (so this is why I'm making this post,if I can do this couldn't there be a way to override constructors?).
1) So I create a base class called Actor which extends MovieClip save it as Actor.as and default constructor of Actor() add whatever properties I want.
2) Then I create an object in my library, let's call it mcShip, then I link that symbol for export as ActionScript and have it's base class as Actor and name the class ShipMC.
3) I then create a new .as file and call this one ShipActor.as, this class ShipActor extends ShipMC and then I create a default constructor ShipActor(gs:GameScreen, xA:Number, yA:Number) and this works fine (also I create a method in Actor class called ActorSuper and call it from ShipActor with passed in arguments, since I don't know of a way to overload the parent class' constructor)
If I were to just have my mcShip with a base class of flash.display.MovieClip and I try to create ShipActor with the constructor above it says missing default constructor. The above 3 steps is the only way I can get it to work for now. Is there a way to overload the constructor? If not are there any other work arounds?
I'm attempting to use the movieClipLoader to load a file onto an instance of a class derived from movieclip. For some reason, this doesn't seem to work, because after it successfully loads, the array that contains these derived class instances suddenly become movie clips and lose all their derived variables (tracing them resutls in 'undefined').So I thought there must be another way. Perhaps there is a way to copy the image data from one movie clip to another, or someone suggested taking a snap shot of the first movie clip and then applying it to the second as a bitmap.
I'm working (for my sins) on a Flex 3.3 project, which unfortunately cannot be upgraded to a newer SDK version at this stage, and have hit an issue with the custom hierarchical tree class (subclassing mx.controls.Tree) we're using. Excuse the spelling; the previous developer had a fear of dictionaries...
public class HierachyTree extends Tree public function HierachyTree() {[code].....
I'm using a solution somewhere between these two methods (basically, implementing ITreeDataDescriptor) in order to add live text filtering to the component, and it's working so far:
public class HierachyTreeFilteredDataDescriptor implements ITreeDataDescriptor { private var filter:Function[code]..........
The issue is that (with tree:HierachyTree) neither tree.maxVerticalScrollPosition nor the protected property tree.verticalScrollBar .maxScrollPosition updates when the search string is changed.I've tried calling invalidateList() and invalidateDisplayList() on tree — and calling invalidateDisplayList() and invalidateSize() on tree.verticalScrollBar — to no avail.
I am trying to build an MXML application with Flash Builder 4.5, and I am integrating an API that requires the root of a display object to be a MovieClip. Personally I think this is bad design but I have to go with it. The root object always seems to end up as the stage, because of course I have to add the object to the stage for it to be added to the display list. Is there some way that I can either change the stage type in an MXML application to a MovieClip or is there some way to force a MovieClip wrapper to become the root of a display object?
I'm slightly new to Flash CS3 + AS3 combo, so its more of a lack of practice question. My question stems from the problem described here http:[url].... . Note, its not the same problem, its a new one.The Problem ,So I have multiple library assets (which are on teh stage) and I want to assign similar functionality to all of them.
Attempt 1: So I create the n assets, create a custom class in AS3, link them to Flash CS3 and obviously enough it gives me the error that multiple assets can't be linked to the same class.Obvious enough to understand (well not completely, because from a programmers background it doesn't make sense).
Attempt 2: Same as attempt 1, but instead of linking all the assets to the same class I make the base class the same class, and let the derived class be dynamically created by Flash on compile time.So the linking works, but the problem is, in my base class I have a method which does something (say an tween) on a child of the library asset. So if the assets on the stage/library are called asset1, asset2, asset3 (same name for asset name, class name, id name), each of them has a sub-movieclip called ... say 'foo'. now if I manually wrote a class for each asset, I could do 'this.foo' to play with the sub-movieclip. However since this functionality is in the parent class, I'm unable to do it.
P.S. If you're form a programming/OOP background, its basically a abstract class problem. My Base class knows how to doSomething(), but it needs aSomething, which is defined in the Derived classes. However I found out that AS3 classes don't support virtual(C++ )/abstract (Java) in the true sense of the word (unless I missed some obvious documentation).
When I use MouseEvent.MOUSE_OUT the target is [object MovieClip], but when I use MouseEvent.ROLL_OUT I get [object Bildspel] - and Bildspel is my class. The thing is that when I use ROLL_OUT I'm not able to delete the targets ENTER_FRAME event.
I Have the drag and drop working where you drag a text movieclip onto a picture of an object movieclip but having some problems. I know its something to do with the hitTest function but when i drop the word "cow" onto the picture of a dog it actually says this is correct by displaying the word cow above the picture of the dog when instead it shouldnt allow me to drop the text onto the picture which doesnt match.
Basically i need to know how to seperate the drag hitTest function for the DogPic/DogText so that it has its own function to detect a hit. At the moment you can see in the below code I have 1 hittest fucntion detecting both collisions when they need seperate functions I tried making a seperate function for each but it didnt work
how i could change the movieclip border around a circular object/movieclip.cuz know my my hitTestObject will also test on the corner of the movieClip and not the actual see able object like i show down here how coud i change this border to the second image?
I have a base class which is being created via remote_object [RemoteClass alias] from the server.I have other specialized classes that are derived from this baseclass, but serialization with the server always happens with the base class.The base class has meta data that defines what the derived class is, for example
[RemoteClass (alias="com.myco...')] public Class Base {
I have an expanding banner ad that when expanded appears underneathe the other embedded swf's on the page.Is this a known problem? I've tried a million ways to play with the z-index.
I'm not sure if this is a flash thing or a dreamweaver so I've put it in both for now.
I have just finished my flash website and it looks fine in Firefox and Safari but a friend sent me a snapshot of how it looks in IE and it has some weird scrollbars showing up, as well as the normal browser scrollbars...why is this?
I have a dynamic text field that I create and populate with code, and a UIScrollBar that goes along with it.works correctly, the scroll-bar appears no problem.The issue comes in when I load the SWF into another project.I have a SWF interface that loads other pages (SWF, FLV, etc) When the SWF with the scrollbar is loaded into the interface, the scrollbar does not display at all.Here is the code for the scrollbar SWF, if:
import fl.controls.UIScrollBar; var myTxt:TextField = new TextField(); myTxt.border = false;
I've got a swf file that is supposed to play back a flv within a player. When I test it locally, it works fine, but when I upoaded all of the files (swf, flv, and SteelExternalPlaySeekMute) to the server, when I call the main swf on the page, it doesn't show the controls. If I just call up the swf in a new browser, though, it works fine.
I think the problem may lie in the fact that the html file that loads the swf is not in the same filepath in the server as the swf file. Could it be that the swf is looking for the controls swf in the html's directory, rather than the directory its in? (Though, that doesn't make sense, because it appears to load the flv without an issue, and they are in the same directory)
i had a actionscript1.0 flash file.i edited that file using actionscript2.0(flash8.0) and pubilsh .swf file. that .swf file did not have page number,any label,text.it only has display images
I'm putting together a flash animation which has 1 png file replicated quite a few times. to be more precise, a snow flake. When they build up on top of each other im getting strange blotches that should not be there.I have a feeling that because of how many times the image is replicated it is struggling (Flash, not my computer), as when there were only half of the flakes it did not do it.
A client of mine have requested a flash logo on their homepage. I have designed one and added the code as I think it should look. But is is not appearing.[URL]
Would anyone have an idea why some images (being pulled into a FLA file via a UI loader) would show up in my SWF file (on my harddrive) BUT, will not show up when I upload the SWF/Images to the ftp/web??
It works perfectly fine on my local harddrive. The UI loader has the correct AS coded, and it successfully brings in the images when I look at the SWF file on my computer. However, when I upload the SWF file to the web, it will not show the images being brought in by the UI loader?
I made double sure that the images were actually uploaded to the website, and they were. I even took the WHOLE site down, and reuploaded it, again, making sure the images I am referring to are up on the web. It all looks correct to me.
I have created a Flash object which uses an xml to read the image path and few other attributes. I could successfully generate the swf and publish (html) the object.
When I view menu.html, independently in a browser it works fine. However, when I embed this, generated html (menu.html), in the home page of another website(homepage.html), it breaks. The images are not displayed.
I am unable to view the Actions Panel window in a document I've already done a lot of work in. It worked previously - I created an Actions Layer and was able to add action script, however, when I try to open it back up to edit the action script I wrote, neither the F9 shortcut nor the Windows>Actions pulls up the Actions Panel. In fact, when I try either method, nothing happens.
