ActionScript 2.0 :: Tutorial On Absolute Positioning In Flash

Nov 1, 2005

I am looking for a tutorial on Absolute Positioning in Flash. I have noticed a ton of sites where something will stay in a spacific area. For instance in my new site, i am looking to give credit to people. I want it to be a hitTest area that stays on the bottom of the screen no matter how large or small the movie gets with a limit on the small side so it stops getting smaller when the screen is smaller than 800 x 600. This way the movie clip will expand depending upon the users screen size but the content of the hidden area will stay the same size so it does not distort. I think Solenior(sp) did this and maybe a few others. I am looking to learn the actions script behind it not just a "here you go" type of deal. I want to really learn AS not just copy and paste it.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Fluid Positioning - Align MovieClip To Middle Of Screen

Mar 1, 2009

I'm new to AS 3.0 and I don't get this fluid thing fully. Everything works fine when I want my movieclip to align to the middle of the screen but when I try to make a button (or any movieclip) always align to bottom right I can't figure out how. Here's my AS, how do I make the "ball_mc" align bottom left?

import fl.transitions.Tween;
import fl.transitions.easing.*;
import fl.transitions.TweenEvent;
stage.addEventListener(Event.RESIZE, resizeListener);
stage.scaleMode = StageScaleMode.NO_SCALE;
stage.align = StageAlign.TOP_LEFT;

Here's an example of how I want my movieclip to get placed, (like the "fullscreen" button): [URL]

ActionScript 3.0 :: Get The Absolute Stage Position Of An Object?

Jul 16, 2009

How can I get the absolute stage position of an object within a custom flex component that I exported from flash?  In my Flex application I'm using the component and resizing it by setting its height and width properties.  I want to place another component on the stage but I want it to appear at the same x and y coordinates of a text field in my custom component.

newComponent.x = customComponent.myTextField.x
newComponent.y = customComponent.myTextField.y

Because the customComponent is resized, the coordinates don't match up.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Determine Absolute (stage) Coordinates Of A Movie Clip

Apr 1, 2011

Is there a method to determine the stage coordinates of a movie clip?

I don't mean something like this:
stageX = mc.x + mc.parent.x + mc.parent.parent.x + ....

I would like to be able to determine the movie clip stage coordinates without knowing what are its parents and grandparents etc. The goal is to be able to place the movie clip on exact place on a stage, no matter what is the nesting structure.

Actionscript 3.0 :: Determining Which Mc Is On Stage And Positioning It?

May 19, 2011

I have a series of movieclips acting as buttons that load different flashvars video srcs onto the stage.When the swf loads --- the first button is added to the stage after a 20 sec Timer completes.As you click through each button, the one just CLICKED is removed and a new button is added in its place.All the buttons are set to dynamically be centered on the stage. However, the function that is positioning them is called BEFORE the first button is on stage, throwing the error (Error #2007: Parameter child must be non-null.)here is the code inside of the windowResize method which positions the buttons.

Code: Select allprivate function onWindowResize(e:Event):void
{
//position hidden buttons[code].....

Even though I've set up a boolean var and set it to true after the first button has been added to the stage -- the method still tries to find the first button and gives me a error saying that it must be non-null.Basically I want to make sure that it doesn't try and position the first button before it has been added to the stage. I'm not sure if encapsulating this method inside of another Timer is a good idea.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Positioning After Stage Resize?

Aug 25, 2011

coordinates in flash, particularly after resizing the flash player window.I have an mc on stage and draw an ellipse inside that mc. The movie is of size 800 x 600.

Code:
var ellipse:Shape = new Shape();
ellipse.graphics.beginFill(0x6CCDF4, 0.5);
ellipse.graphics.lineStyle(4,0x186B87);

[code]....

If I check the coordinates of that ellipse from it's transform property, I see that the top left is at 400, 300.

Code:
ellipse.transform.pixelBounds.topLeft.x
ellipse.transform.pixelBounds.topLeft.y

This seems fine to me as this position is in relation to the stage, yes? If I convert this to a position local to the container I get values ~0,0.

Code:
var stagePoint:Point = new Point(ellipse.transform.pixelBounds.topLeft.x, ellipse.transform.pixelBounds.topLeft.y);
var localPoint:Point = join.canvas.globalToLocal(stagePoint);

When the flash player window is resized, the coordinates change entirely. Instead of being at 400,300 the transform property indicates that it is at 640, 510. I assume this is because the viewport has changed, but the stageWidth and width properties of the stage do not change.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Image Grows From Left Corner Instead Of Middle

Sep 14, 2009

I put an image on my stage. Then I created a keyframe out about 25 frames. I then went to frame 25 and grabed the side of the image and drug it in. Shrinking the image by about 30%. This shrank my image from both sides. When I run it, the image shrinks from the left and the right symmetrically. Now after I did this, I clicked on the tween and said to copy as AS3. Then I went to a new layer and tied the new AS3 code to a new image dynamically. It works fine, except that it shrinks only the right hand side of the image. In other words, the images seems to be anchored on the left hand side. How can I make my dynamic image shrink from both sides in?

ActionScript 2.0 :: Mac IE And Dynamic Image Positioning?

Nov 24, 2004

I'm using MX 2004 for a photographic portfolio project. The site seems to work fine on 99% percent of systems. Unfortunatley a strange error occus when viewing the site with IE on Mac OSX.I a dynamically loading images using LoadMovie and repostioning them so that they are centred. Sometimes with Mac IE the image doesn't get centred and is loaded with the top left corner in the centre of the screen as it would had the repositioning not happened.

This only happens sometimes and only with some images and with different images each time. I can reproduce the effect on my Mac but am stumped as to why it happens. I have ruled out the flash player version (it happens with them all) and have tried numerous export settings.Here's the code for the loading and repositioning and the link,

Now I have added some buttons into it and by pressing those I would like the image to move to a specific position (with ease if it's possible) and stop. And by pressing another button the panning starts again. Is it possible to add to this code? (I have made some little modifications to the code. There is a mask area where the panning works and if your mouse is outside the area the panning doesn't work)
