ActionScript 2.0 :: Randomly Loading Elements From List On Stage
Jun 27, 2003
I have a list of countries that are in an xml document. I was wondering if here was a way to randomly load ten of these and place them on the stage in random places. I want to get the effect of this intro: [URL]. (not the one with the black background)
I am encountering a strange problem. I am trying to generate a matrix with value of elements either 1 or 0 (filled randomly). I am storing the values into a 2D array. This is code on the first frame. Everything seems to be working fine.
I have gone through the tutorial on this site regarding random movement. But I need it to be kept in a frame. This is the code(from this site)
Code: function getdistance(x, y, x1, y1) { var run, rise; run = x1-x; rise = y1-y; return (_root.hyp(run, rise)); } function hyp(a, b) { [Code] .....
Lets say I make an physical border for the element. A "box" 200x100 and this box is centered. How do I keep my random moved element inside this "box" or frame you may call it.
I have a for loop which is grabbing data from a xml file and showing it to the user.. my problem is that I want to show 5 for let's say.. 30 seconds.. and then making a transition and show another 5 elements.
I can make the condition like:
Code: if(info.length() >= 5){ for (var i:int = 0; i < 5; i++) {
and I show the first 5. But what now? How do I hide those and show the next five?
I'm looking for a way to randomly start an ordered list of SWF's. Well, that's not all I have my main SWF calling up external SWF's. I have 2 groups of external SWF's. From my main SWF Actionscript, I want to randomly play one SWF in Group A and continue cycling through Group A (in order) until it is finished. Then I want to randomly start playing one SWF from Group B and continue cycling through that list (in order) until the Group B is cycled through. Then repeat Group A (random start, but staying in order), etc.
Does this make sense?? I realize it's a challenge My current ActionScript works for Group A to randomly select and play in order, I need it to stop after it gets to the random starting point again (so it doesn't repeat) and start up Group B (which isn't in there yet)
I'm making a mockup for a client and I need to Load the .swf with the exact stage size so the graphic elements do not float outside the loaded movies stage area. [URL]Basic load code I'm using...
Is it possible to define a property to limit the number of elements which will appear in a mx:List ? I've read about setting the property rowCount, but I don't see any effect.Can a filter be applied to accomplish this? My intention was to avoid removing the items from the list/array collection, but simply "hide" them. Can this be done?
creat a flash to randomly select names from list contains more than 150 names and randomly select about 10 or 20 names each time without repeat any of then
How would you defer loading of other graphics on the page until after the images in a Flash gallery's images.xml file are finished loading?Is there any way to detect for this, or would I only be able to check if the flash swf object is finished loading? I'm pretty sure the swf object would be loaded/ready as with document.getElementById('flashobject').onload = function(){}; before the corresponding images have loaded though, instead of after.
I'm using a list element with variableRowHeight and word-wrap set to true like in the example below:
[URL]
When I scroll through the list with a mouse scrollwheel the text in the listItems also scroll. I know that this is to do with the height of the textField...
1 is there a way to load an external mp3 file randomly from a list of files in a folder? is there a "rand" function (as in php) or something to get random numbers?
i want that a MC appears randomly on the stage but with the time...like 1 second, and then after 1 second, it randomly appears somewhere else on the stage (800x600).
URL...that has videos in the work section (click work, then the tv icon or the radio icon at the bottom of the page) that will randomly not load.THe weird thing is that the files have never moved, and yet, the same computer on the same ISP using the same browser that could view the videos 2 days prior, suddenly cannot.I'm also having an issue where the flash won't even load on startup randomly.This had happened one time in the past, and I took the page from a test area of the site and put it live, and it solved the problem. So my last ditch plan z is to make a mirror to link to in case the videos aren't loading for a user.
if I want to randomly select an image from the stage, by using an array, and send it to the location of a box on stage (ranPair1), how could I do that?
var cardArray = new Array(); cardArray[1] = "twoC, twoH"; cardArray[2] = "threeC, threeH";
i have a movieclip of a butterfly and needs it to move randomly on stage. Also, it should always be facing the side its flying at and never fly backwards (if its flying from left to right it should be facing right and the other way about)
I want to load some mcs randomly on the stage, except for a footer area at the bottom of the stage. Is there a way to exclude just a certain part of the stage using something like Math.random()*Stage and then specifying the bottom 300 pixels as off limits?
I'm using the whole stage because the swf is embedded 100% across the browser, so I can't restrict the dimensions.
Code: onClipEvent (load) { x = this._x=Math.random()*Stage.width; y = this._y=Math.random()*Stage.height; }
I am generating movieClips outside of the stage I want to send them randomly into the stage in enter frame. Currently it looks like this, so they go like in all directions... How could I direct each of them randomly into the stage?
Code: function timerEvent(e:TimerEvent):void { var newObj:MyObj=new MyObj(); //this places them randomly outside of the stage
I'm making a game where you move your avatar around the screen, grab pickups, and avoid enemies. The avatar and enemies are movie clips containing animations. When you collide with an enemy, his movie clip plays a quick animation. All of which is working fine. But what would be the best way to bring in new enemies (which will be different) when a new level starts?
Should I try putting the enemy movie clips inside empty holder movie clips, then swapping them with addChild? So far I haven't been able to get that working. Would swapping external SWFs into empty clips be better (which I'm reluctant to do, since the code that triggers the movie clip animation on collision is working well)? Is there a way to use normal mc's without holder clips, clear them from the stage, and create new ones? Or, is there a way to simply put all the enemy animations on different layers in a movie clip timeline, and switch them by controlling the layer visibility?
