I have an application performing a simple calculation of adding and subtracting a amout to/from a balance amount.The problem is that every thing works fine except that when i remove the lkast amout from the balance ie: 15.25 -15.25 suppose i get something like -5.32907051820075e-15

I am trying to create a script, where the user inputs a maths equation (something simple like 5 + 2 * 10), I have managed to break down the text into an array and have the numbers in one array and the symbols in another, I wanted the computer to then work it out, however I cant seem to think of how to do this and the methods that I have tried have failed.there is one dynamic box and the value of that is then broken down by an array split(" "), however this leaves the values in an array and it is percieved as a string not a number and so when i try to work it outit just displays 5 * 10, how would i get it to work that out?

I have a simple money script [for my game] and I want to say, ok when I walk over a coin, I want it to add $5 to the total amount of money, but the problem is, is that my code doesn't work, in the frame actions I have:

Is it possible to have a movieclip loaded to the stage not movable, but after a certain amount of time you can click on it and drag it to where you want it to go, and if so how would you go about doing that?

I have been having a serious issue with custom video where flash is saying that the amount of the video so far played is MORE than the amount that it has downloaded, which is clearly impossible. This results in various problems, such as the playhead (scrubber) moving past the end of the loader bar. I posted a simple demo that displays the amount loaded and the amount played in text fields. So I have been having a serious issue with custom video where flash is saying that the amount of the video so far played is MORE than the amount that it has downloaded, which is clearly impossible. This results in various problems, such as the playhead (scrubber) moving past the end of the loader bar.I posted a simple demo that displays the amount loaded and the amount played in text fields. You can see it at: URL...[code]I encoded the video at a high rate so that it would download slowly. It may not playback smoothly, which I am not concerned about. What I am concerned about is the numbers below the video what are derived from ns.bytesLoaded and ns.time. If you watch it for a bit, the amount played should exceed the amount loaded.
I double checked the video duration and the bytestotal that flash is reporting and they are correct. I don't know of any way to check the accuracy of bytesloaded.If your internet connection is super fast, you may not see the issue - it only occurs when it is playing back faster than it is downloading - if this is the case, you may need to throttle your speed down, or start downloading a large file while you are watching this demo in order to see the issue.But this is a serious issue and means that building custom video interfaces with loadbars and playheads is impossible!

So i am working on a widget and I cant seem to get the volume and balance sliders to work right. Can someone take a look at my code and see if you know what going wrong. I have just finished the Kirupa Tutorial "Photo Slideshow Using XML and Flash".I would like to simply add a button that takes you directly to one of the images in the slideshow.I will have 200+ images in the slideshow and with the project i am working on i need the ability to have an action to place on a button that takes you directly to say, image 47 in the xml.

I downloaded the trial of flash cs4 and have created a simnple flash.I am creating a simple slideshow, each of the slides should be clickable and redirect the browser.I created images then imported them and they were automatically converted to symbols.I combined the symbols using some motion tweens.I then created an actions layer and created clasic tween wher I want the user to be able to click.My problem is I cant get it working. I think I am not referencing the right objects.[code]I have tried setting the object reference to the motion tween instance name, the classic tween name on the actions layer and the symbol name none seem to work

I run a FMS 3.5 Server and I want to add additional FMS Servers and load balance the traffic. The plan is to use a script for the developer version of FMS that forwards two incoming FME streams to the different servers, so each FMS Server has all streams. Is there a script for this? In addition there is a need for a script that somehow redirects the users to the server with the lowest users/bandwidth in use.

I need to first express that I'm a fully self-taught Flash designer. No one has ever sat down and tried to explain to me the DOs and DONTs about Flash. I have followed tutorials, books, and anything else I can get my hands on, but never a person. People of Flash seem to be very hard to find, in my personal experience.I am the most comfortable with Photoshop, knowing very little about Illustrator or Fireworks.That said, I have been asked to create a 45KB (yikes!) max file, rotating 3 .jpg images I created from other .jpgs given to me. The images are usually large, so I am given room to compress them for a 300px x 250 px stage.
However, these images are always my biggest culprit for my huge file size. I'll import them in, making them into Graphic Symbols, but nothing seems to prevent the enourmous file size.When given the raw images, I would throw them into Photoshop, make the files the correct 300x250 size. Then I have tried: saving the image at the best resolution in .jpg and .png form, and then I tried saving the images as low-as-I-could-stomach quality. I hardly see a difference with file size when they are imported into Flash and used.I was told to use Fireworks's Optimize function, which I did, but it made my .swf even biggerWhen I have my Flash piece all set up/animted as I want, but I need to replace the bitmap(.jpg/.png) photos, I will:right click on the bitmap to get properties, "upload" the new image to be used, adjust the Quality, having "Allow smoothing" unclicked.
I understand I should make as much of the graphics in Flash as I can, instead of Import, but I am primarily given photographs to use.Seeing what my previous peers have done is mind-puzzling, but they are not around, so I cannot ask them for their advice. I have a square grid with 100 grid squares in it.I want the cursor to display its grid position.Does Flash plot the position based on pixels - ie would my grid square have to be 100x100px or a multiple of that eg 200x200px? Or could it calculate the position no matter what size the square was? eg 186x186px ?

To create a sort of thick-pixel gradient shadow, I've got a simple loop which creates a new 200x5 pixel Shape (rectangle) with each iteration, assigning an alpha value and y value that changes relative to the loop's iteration.

Are there a set of common equations that people use for this sort of thing, similar to the simple (1-(k/10))*.5 I use for the linear change from .5 to 0 in ten .5 increments?

I have an app that was actually written for me. It's a multiple choice quiz basically where a question comes up and there are 4 answers. HOWEVER the answer always seems to be 80% on the same answer ie: BUTTON ONE out of the four. BILLIANT random function I don't think.Would this be a better answer formula to use?

I have some code that looks like this:

level_btn.x = 50 + (i - 1) % 10 * 50;
It sets the x location of my level button. But this is in a for loop (that's what the 'i' is for.) I run it and everything works perfectly, as it should, not a single problem. Then I press the auto format button in the flash actionscript editor. (It's the button that adds all of the ; to the end of each line and other stuff)
Well that changes my code to this:

thinking it's done me a favour but it hasn't. It's got rid of the brackets so it won't do the maths functions in the correct order. I've tried adding more brackets in places and other stuff but I just don't know how to fix it. It's annoying because every time I press the auto format button I have to add the brackets in again.

im working on a maths style jigsaw, and ive come across a problem of sorts, ive set random1_txt.text to 1 and random1_txt.text to 2 for testing, basically i want to randomise two textfields between 1 and 10, and also randomise the sign between either a - or a +
the answer can be computed by flash, now what i need it to do is stop on the frame number of the answer in answer_mc, these frames contain graphics of all numbers 1-20 in alpha format, this is so that the answer is in place, now the user can drag and drop movieclips into the answer box, and receive a correct or incorrect response
im at a loss on how to do this, i havent gotten around to randomising the sign as of yet i need to do more research but the general idea is as above

In the scene there is a star and an AI player.what equation would take the AI player on the most direct route to the star...i.e guide it into the path of the star...just to make things clear, the star is static and the ai plaer is controlled by the computer. i think you have to make two variables distx and disty and use some sort of trigonometry on them but i'm not entirely sure on how to go along doing this.

Flash is not in my toolset, but I am an old Director jock and have spent some hours dipping my head into the Flash manual. I suppose that makes me a promising beginner-level poster. I'm working in CS5.
I need to make a simple Flash-based sound player for a website for a newly-released novel (http://www.bearriverbooks.com/index.html). I want the user to click on what appears to be an icon (or image), which kicks open a simple controller and starts playing a sound file (a radio interview, which I will probably export using Flash's voice compression). Nothing fancy. Just want the visitor to hear the sound and be able to apply simple controls (stop/start/rewind/volume).
I can learn ActionScript, I suppose, since I used to dream in Lingo, but my life would be a lot simpler if I could just publish a controller without having to roll my own. I'd like to think there's a magic button somewhere that can do this, but I haven't found it yet.

I have a gallery with a vertical thumbnail filmstrip on the left. There is an up and down button on the thumbnail strip. I want to set the up and down buttons to scroll a set amount of pixels. Is this possible? How?
I know the height of the thumbnails are 130 px each. If I could set the buttons to only go up or down that number of pixels on click, it would scroll the height of just one image thumbnail at a time per click, right?
Here is what the up button is set to now (using a stock template gallery fla) and it jumps around- not a one-by-one scroll like I need[code]...

I've been developing a flash game with a friend, and have hit a minor snag with the timers. My entire game runs in one frame, spawning movieclips and handling all that game-related stuff. Thing is, I've got a timer that spawns one thing (a boulder, in case anyone is wondering), and I'd like to have that setInterval (milliseconds) decrease every second by a set amount.
The important snippet of my code looks like this:
