This pertains to the Preloader and Transition for Dynamic Files tutorial here on kirupa.
I've used this tutorial many times before but now for the first time i am using navigation that is inside a movie clip. instead of directly on the stage. I'm having problems with the content loading it just always says loading. Is there something that i would have to change in the transition code or my button code? all the code for my buttons is inside of nav_mc movie clip. here is my fla. to take a look at

I used the 'Preloader and Transition for Dynamic Files' Tutorial from the tutorials section
here is a link [URL] and have to say, I learned soooo much from it, and incorporated it into my website [URL]. How to put a percentage preloader for each of the sections when they load. The heavier the .swf file you are loading, the longer it takes, and I've gotten comments about this saying they would like to know how long they have to wait until they see something.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Modification To The Transition Tutorial?

Nov 5, 2004

well this is gonna be a long big essay. So lets start. I used this tutorial to make a nice menu. I got some ideas by searching this forum. Finally came up with this (check the attached .fla) ... Allright, now umm...its really hard to explain. But i gotta explain this. lease Check the attached fla to get the idea of what I am talking here. You will notice that there are 3 buttons in the MAIN MENU. 1) Home 2 Forums. or the SUBMENU : I put 3 more buttons inside the forums_mc (look in the library) on frame 61. The buttons are 1) EXT MC 1 , 2) EXT MC 2, 3) EXT MC 3. I want to use these buttons to load external swf. I want to use the same logic used in the transition tutorial to make the intro and outro transitions. In addition to that, if I press any button on the MAIN MENU, the externally loaded swf should play outro transition and also collapse the SUBMENU. BUT (this is important) , if I press any button in the SUB MENU (like the button EXT MC 2) , then outro transition should play in the ext swf, but the SUB MENU SHOULD NOT PLAY THE OUTRO ANIMATION (which we want to do, when pressing any button on MAIN MENU).

Also the externally loaded swf should load in the emptycontainer movieclip inside the FORUMS_MC clipSo, got any ideas how to do this ???k the attached files. The above discription will only make sense if you see the .fla and other files attached. tried my best to do this, but could not succeed. Also, i asked many friends, but they are not able to do this...I am pretty sure that Masters like POM and Voetsjoeba, scotty and many others will be able to solve this problem.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Transition Tutorial Load A Swf Into A Loaded Swf?

Jul 31, 2006

I am working with the transitions tutorial: [URL]... Here is a link to the modified example im working on. [URL]...If you are familiar with this tutorial you will see this is familiar. Main movie checks to see if the specific section is at "midframe" if its not it waits and does nothing, then once you have transitioned to midframe and stopped it, click on the next section will then transition out and load the next movie. I am tring to do a little variation of it.

ok we have mainmovie2004.swf which has 4 buttons. Each button, section1, section2, section3, and section4 all load specific movies to "container" on the main timeline. Section1 button loads section1.swf, Section2 button loads section2.swf...etc. Well I have placed another set of buttons in each section (just section1 and 2 for example sake). Each button loads a specific movie into container_small (yeah I know it doesnt follow camelCode but thats the least of my concerns). I have been messing around with the code and I am able to get Section1 to load, then when I click on the first pink button in section1 it loads section1.1 which is (section1_1.swf). When I click on the next button it just reloads the same section no matter what. The other sections work because when you load section1 and click on any pink button the corresponding swf loads just doesnt ever transition out. The tree would like like this: {mainmovie2004.swf[section1.swf(section1_1.swf)]}.

I think the problem is the last frame of each sub section has an action that will load the next section. I need to get the path correct.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Note On External SWF Transition Tutorial?

Jan 7, 2008

First post. I was just going through Voetsjoeba's tutorial on making transitions between external swf's [URL]..

"If your buttons are not located on the main timeline, you will have to change the path to the container movieclip. In this example the buttons are located on the main timeline, therefore 'container' targets the container movieclip correctly. Though, if they are not on the main timeline, you must change container to the appropriate path."

I was wondering if anyone could elaborate on this. That is, how the path to the container movieclip would need to be changed in this situation. Apologies if the question is too vague.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Dynamic Scrolling Text Box Using Kirupa Tutorial

Dec 23, 2003

I've created a dynamic scrolling text box using the kirupa tutorial. It's the tutorial that uses self-made buttons to scroll up and down. In my movie I've got 7 buttons, when one is pressed I want to display different text in the text box. I have it working by loading text from .txt files but it is slow and does not allow me to format the text as I would like. What I'm thinking of doing is creating 7 keyframes on the timeline of the scrollable text. Then in each frame have the different text that I want displayed. When I click on a button it would go to one of those frames thus displaying the corresponding text. I can't get it to work. I've changed the text box to a static text box. I can't get it to move the playhead to the next frame in the text movie clip which the scrollable text box resides in.

Media Server :: Dynamic Streaming While In The Process Of Writing A Tutorial Not Working

Mar 15, 2010

I've been experimenting with Dynamic Streaming while in the process of writing a tutorial. The documentation is quite clear on a few points: The keyframe interval in the various encodings should be shortThe bufferlength should be at least 2x the keyframe intervalThe player should sense a bandwidth change, by default, within the 4-second sampling interval and call for a switch. Then, the switch could take as long as 2x the keyframe interval after that. What I'm finding is wildly different behavior than this. It takes anywhere from 10-15 seconds for the player to notice the change and call for a switch, then another 20-40 seconds for the switch to happen. When switching up to a higher bitrate stream, this just means the user gets low bitrate video for longer than they ought to. But when switching down due to falling bandwidth, the buffer runs out and the user stares at the rebuffering sign for a lengthy time - long enough to give up on watching the video, for sure.

I've encoded an H.264 MP4 file at 64, 384, and 768 kbps, at 30fps and an "every 60 frames" keyframe interval. I've streamed it rtmp via two different CDNs that use FMS 3.5, into two different Flash video players (JW Player and Flowplayer). I've restricted my bandwidth on Windows XP with Netlimiter 2.0; and on the Mac with 'ipfw'. I've set bufferlength between 4 and 10 seconds. I've tested switching up and switching down. For up, I start with a 200kbps bandwidth limit. The video starts OK with the correct stream, then at 5 seconds I open up the bandwidth to unrestricted. For testing down, I do the opposite: start at unrestricted and then at 00:05 restrict to 200kbps.

My test page, with both players and sample code is at [URL] n-flash-bitrate-switching/ I also have a couple of screen recordings there showing the behavior of the whole process, both switching up and switching down. I thought I've done everything right here - paid attention to every documented detail, but it works rather poorly. Can someone explain whether this is expected behavior, if the players have implemented dynamic switching poorly, or if I'm doing something wrong?

ActionScript 3.0 :: When Add A Dynamic Mask To Preloader Progress Bar (for Transition Out) Its Not Scaling Correct

Aug 11, 2010

i found out when i add a dynamic mask to my preloader progress bar (for transition out) its not scaling correct. I think its because my bar isnt tweening to the correct "stageWidth" during progress until it completes. I setted it up like that:

// Preloder Progress Bar

Code:
bar.scaleX = 0;
bar.graphics.beginFill(0xff3333,1);
bar.graphics.drawRect(0,0,stage.stageWidth,4);

[code]....

Somehow it looks like 100% of the loading progress doesnt represent the entire stageWidth so my bar animation finishes some pixels before reaching stageWidth end. NowJust noticed it now after adding a dynamic mask to my preloaders progress bar.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Create A Page Transition That Will Play A MovieCLip Transition Into A Page?

Apr 23, 2010

I am trying to create a page transition that will play a movieCLip transition into a page. and then it stops then when another button is pressed, it will play that transition out while loading the appropriate one. In the attached FLA, if you click on the red button first, the blue transition plays,

--red button code--
mybutton1.onRelease=function(){
_root.transitionClip.play();
}

and then stops on the stage. When you click the green button second,

--green button code --

mybutton2.onRelease=function(){
_root.transitionClip.play("out");
_root.transitionClip2.play();
}

it works correctly/ Playing out of the blue Transition and into the Red transition. However if I click it again it does the opposite, and just keep alternating.

If I add the

_root.transitionClip2.play("out");

to the first button then, nothing works right. I will eventually have more buttons, and may need to use a variable to control which "out" transitions is played, but how do I get the buttons to do this?I just want it to exit the current movie clip and play the "in" section of the desired clip.
