ActionScript 2.0 :: Using An Array To Create Multiple Variables?
Aug 23, 2006
If I have multiple variables of the same type, can I create an array and loop to create them or do I need to create them individually.
For instance,
var ajArray:Array = new Array(mc1, mc2, mc3, mc4, mc5, mc6, mc7, mc8, mc9, mc10, mc11, mc12, mc13);
for (var i:number = 0; i<ajArray.length; i++){
var [ajArray[i]]:MovieClip;
}
[code]....

i'm trying to trace this out - but i don't believe i have the right syntax:
trace (levelNum + "Questions" + [questionNum[currentQuestionNum]].correctAnswer);
i can trace out 'levelNum' and it traces out fine. i can trace out 'questionNum[currentQuestionNum]' and it traces out fine.basically without any variables my object array would look like this:
lvl(1 or 2)Questions[(a # here)].correctAnswer.
But my trace is not working and i'm not sure how to group that all together.

My issue is that I have 10 small audio clips and I want to make them into variables that i can access later in the code. But I'd be happy if I didn't have to write the same code 10 times down over and over to create/access them.[code]...
A question on the side, is there any built in sound generator in actionssccript 3.0?

Right now, I have many MovieClips's in my array. I want to update all the alpha values of the MovieClips in my array. Right now, I am using a for loop but this is not the fastest way to do it.

I have 25 dynamic text fields. If I could, I'd just assign their text by calling the array in the text property var, but that doesn't work.My text field variables are simply B1, B2, B3, B4, B5, I1, I2, I3, I4. . . (I'm populating a bingo card)I'm using 5 Arrays to get the 25 numbers. bArray, iArray. . . and so on.Now, obviously I can fill in my text fields by assigning each variable separately, however, I'd like a shorter solution.Instead of coding B1=bArray[0], B2 =bArray[1] I was looking for a way to assign all the variables in a for loop... or something...

I need to create a multidimensional array with a certain number of rows/columns from variables that store the number of rows/columns. For example say I have:
var r:int = 5;
var c:int = 10;
I want a multidimensional array that has 5 rows and 10 columns, every space within the array filled with the value 0.

its me again I posted destroying MovieClips a few days ago now I'm working on the same project (you can probably tell I'm a beginner) and a new problem occurred I need a way to test if the EvilSlingFuzit collides with a rock, but there is more than one rock. I tried to create an array for the rock, but the rocks are created by the SlingFuzit so the Sling fuzit would have to do something like this:

What im looking to do is dynamically create TextFields based on my array.length. So if I have 3 strings in my array then 3 TextFields with the array text needs to be created.
I've managed to actually create TextFields based on the array.length - however afterwards I dont know how to reference them individually, to lets say re-position x, y for array[1]. I've tried saving the Textfields in another array by .push method, but can't seem to reference them correctly.
//Create textfields based on data in Array - in this case 3 textfields
var textArray:Array = new Array('First TextField','TextField Two','Anything, really');
//Array to .push "save" created textfields

How can I make a bunch of variables from a for loop. for example for (var i=0; i<total; i++) {var bunch(i);}. that i make a bunch of variables named bunch1, bunch2, bunch3. I keep getting errors. I program and use so many different languages that I dont know if that can be done with AS3. my only other alternative i can think of is to create some sort of event dispatcher object array. but I dont know how to get them all to send events to one listener with there index number.

I have a list of strings that I add to an array, then attempt to set those values in a for-loop using data that I read in. The array gets updated, but the values the array contains do not. I also have an array of buttons that I update this same way that works great, but strings don't seem to work the same way. I have tried moving the string array to give it full scope, and still nothing...
public class test extends Sprite
{
// Declare a list of strings
protected var title0:String = undefined;

There is a bird, and you control its upwards movement with a key. It has thrust, gravity, it works fine. The problem is I have a bunch of icicles that come at the bird that he is supposed to avoid. I tried this first with math random to use as an x coordinate and than move across the screen, but the icicles had the same x-coordinates sometimes. I tried does not equal(!=) but that doesn't work. I made an array and each number that came out of the array I assigned a different variable. This works fine. I put this variable into the x-coordinate such as mc.x=((n)*60)+480. I did this for five different icicles. All their differnt variables have a different value, and I put them into the same function for each individual video clip, but they still don't go to the right coordinate. Here is the test code just for the initial coordinate of each icicle before it moves...////////////////////////////Quote:
var temp:Array = new Array()
for (var i:int=0;i<8;i++) {
temp.push(i);

The button which controls to add the object into the arr Array can add one by one into each object or can be in one shot. how to add the variable name of an Array from a String? I have some variables created on the main timeline and a mc called options which will be where those variables can be manipulated. A way I've tried to this is by creating a first array(array1) and populating it will all the variable names found on the main timeline, and another array(array2) containing the values of the variables the user has changed(which are displayed on some dynamic text fields). To make these changes, an "apply" button is pressed which will set the values found in array2 to the variables in array1.[code]How would you do this so that var1, var2... are updated properly according to the values found in array2?And because array2 contains strings(read from dynamic textfields), how do you deal with that since var1 and var2 are numbers?

The Setup: For each movieclip the hittests a set of "target" movieclips an array is given a value. If mcIcon1 is dropped onto mcTarget1 the first number in the vacant array is given the value of one. The Issue: If I remove mcIcon1, for example, from the mcTarget1 movieclip I can't find a way of just removing the 1 from that array without the rest of the array numbers being reset.

Is it possible to, if you have an array of class names like ActionScript Code: var city01names:Array = ["pic_01", "pic_02", "pic_03" ...] make a new array which would read these names, instantiate them, and push them into a new array containing the instances of all these pictures, which I could then use for a slideshow?

I want to declare on multiple numerated variables like this:
var myVar1;
var myVar2;
But I don't want to do this manually for every variable instance but automatically, so I need a way to instruct the compiler to declare by himself on every variable and to numerate them automatically.
So hopefully I explained myself well, I wanted to know if there is such way to do this?

Currently I have a simple setup which sends some data to PHP and then PHP returns a variable to flash. I have no problem tracing out the returned variable in Flash, however i'm strugling to send back more than one variable.[code]If I remove the trace and echo for fromPHP2, it's all good, however with with my second echo for fromPHP2 it just gives me back undefined:[code]It seems that fromPHP1 is basically returning both echo's.

I got a problem with URLVariablesprobably better to show by example
Code:
for each(var foo:String in fooArray){
variables.foo = foo;
}
this unfortunately doesn't work as intended as the old foo variable in the URLVariables get overridden each time.Thus when I output the variables as suchTried looking around the net for it but couldn't find anything. Also it seems logical enough that the variable gets overridden and I wouldn't really question it if it wasn't that ive been told the querystring should contain multiple definitions of the foo variable...
