Actionscript 3 :: Dynamically Create Multiple TextFields Based On Array.length

May 4, 2011

What im looking to do is dynamically create TextFields based on my array.length. So if I have 3 strings in my array then 3 TextFields with the array text needs to be created.

I've managed to actually create TextFields based on the array.length - however afterwards I dont know how to reference them individually, to lets say re-position x, y for array[1]. I've tried saving the Textfields in another array by .push method, but can't seem to reference them correctly.

//Create textfields based on data in Array - in this case 3 textfields
var textArray:Array = new Array('First TextField','TextField Two','Anything, really');
//Array to .push "save" created textfields

ActionScript 3.0 :: Create Dynamic Array Element Names Based On Another Array?

Is it possible to, if you have an array of class names like ActionScript Code: var city01names:Array = ["pic_01", "pic_02", "pic_03" ...] make a new array which would read these names, instantiate them, and push them into a new array containing the instances of all these pictures, which I could then use for a slideshow?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Flash - Loop Based On Array Length, Splice?

Feb 4, 2011

I have an array with many values pushed into it (happen to be names of objects). I am using a for loop to check all of the objects (by index number) for collisions, etc. Periodically, depending on a condition, I want to remove the currently checked object's name from the array list. I noticed that there is a problem if I immediately splice the checked name from the list. Namely, the list gets shorter, which is what I want, but not until I'm done checking all objects. Is it a good idea to solve the issue by incrementing i-- after the splice? I do this so that the object that used to be next in the list doesn't get skipped.It seems to work very well but I want to know if this is a lame/problematic solution and if there are any better ways of dealing with it

for (i=0;i<myarray.length;i++){
var ob=myarray[i]
//any old condition

ActionScript 2.0 :: Create A Loop Which Generates A Single Series Of Sine Results Ranging From 0 To 1 Based On 100 Loops?

Jan 20, 2006

I'm trying to create a loop which generates a single series of sine results ranging from 0 to 1 based on 100 loops ( ie 0 ,0.011 ,0.1111........up to 1 in a single run)The results I want start at 0 and increment in a series up to 1 and then stop. I suppose this would be one half of a sine wave I have tried the following but it goes from 0 to 1 ,1 to 0 , 0 to 1 etc whereas I want a single straight run of 100 values from 0 to 1

I tried :

for(var i:Number=0;i<=100;i++){
trace((0.5*Math.sin(i)) + 0.5);
}

This does not work.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Create Tiles Based On A 2 Dimensional Array?

May 28, 2008

I'm having a big problem with my tile-based game. I create tiles based on a 2 dimensional array. Each tile is a Movie Clip, created using attachMovie. The problem is that when there are many of these tiles, the game lags, because so many properties must be stored for each MC. Is there a better method for creating "tiles" than attachMovie, or a way to free the memory used for each one?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Create Multiple MC's In A Loop?

Oct 26, 2009

I want to make multiple empty MCs and fill each one with a thumbnail for a menu. I want to do this using for loops so I can control as many as I need.

What's the most efficient way of doing this?

I'm used to creating empty MCs in AS2, but I'm not familiar with the new display object way of handling this method.

So far I have this:

Code:
for (i=0; i<numImages; i++) {
thmb.push(gallery.features.image[i].@thmb.toString());
var imageLoader:Loader;

Save them in your library. Then just copy this code and compile. You know the routine.

Is it too fast for the Flash Player to handle?What's wrong with my math for the milliseconds on the time? I'd like to ONLY show 10ths of a second instead of thousandths.

ActionScript 2.0 :: SetInterval Inside A Loop?

how to call a function via setInterval a limited number of times (e.g. 20 times).

Code:
function CallMe(Me){
trace(Me);
}
for(var i:Number = 0; i<=20;i++){
setInterval(CallMe(i),3000);

My intention for the above simple code would be to have 'i' get traced every 3 seconds. But it doesn't. 'i' just gets dopped out into the output pane all in one go. Do steady release!

If i run this function from anywhere it works fine. If i run this function from myTimer = setInteval(testing, 3000); it will not work. If i add other random code into the function it (the newly added code only) will work. So i have narrowed it down to something about this["btn"+a].enabled = true; specifically that is causing it to not run.I really hope this makes sense, appologies, it's 3am :
