ActionScript 2.0 :: Using Variables In Parameters Panel?

In short, I'm designing a component that uses the Parameters panel. The component then takes those values entered in the Parampanel, and assigns them to a MC.
Now there are cases when the value entered can either be a string, number, function, or variable.
Now I can't find any way to get it from making everything I put into there a string! I've done charAt chopping, string manips, complex if statements, you name it, I've tried to get around it.
So is there not a way to use variables in the Parameters Panel? Or even prevent it from turning anything into a string? I'm not a novice, but I just can't seem to figure this one out.

I'm having my first go at creating a custom component that lays out items in a grid. I have made a selection of inspectable properties accessed though getter/setter methods. Some of these parameters are dynamic, and change when the user resizes the component or changes another linked value. Is it possible to make the parameters panel update with the new values when a change takes place. Without this, the user will not have accurate feedback on the values stored in the component. Does anyone know if this is possible (or difinitely impossible)?

I currently have a file set up that imports and external text file and displays the parameters in the text file in separate dynamic text fields. No problem there. the text file reads: param1 = 300śm2 = 450śm3 = 500 However, what I want to be able to do, is set parameters that rather than defining text strings, define numeric values. I want to be able to use those numeric values to set the x position of an instance of an animated MC on the stage (animated with actionscript). I need to be able to pass the values from the text file to the actionscript. I tried using the code below and it doesn't work..,

I cant seem to input the tweenlite parameters using variables? For example if I have
ActionScript Code:
var myMovieClip:String = "test"+1; //Which equal - test1
Tweenlite.to(myMovie, 1, {_x:65, _y:117});
This code should just take the myMovie variable and replace it with 'test1' no? Even when I trace the myMovie variable it comes up with 'test1' which is correct!?

I've got an XML file that is loading in data and is calling functions.
how to call the methods from classes with variables set from the XML file:
var functionToCall:String = xml.functions.func[0].to_fire.toString();
myClass[functionToCall]();
This calls the function perfectly.
I was wondering if there is anyway to pass parameters into the function as well through variables. Some functions may have no parameters, some functions could have 5... so the xml could be like this:

I've created a Flash Animation (CS5, ActionScript 3) and converted it to SWF. The flash animation needs the values of 3 variables (defined in the swf timeline) BEFORE it starts running in my Flex application. I've embedded the swf file using swfloader in Flex, but I need to pass the parameters from Flex into Flash before the animation starts. How do I do this?
The way I have my flex code setup below, the variables are not being updated. I get an exception every time it gets to the changeParams function because it can't find "Type", "Num1", etc.
Part of My flash code:

I just downloaded Flash CS5 for mac which installed without any errors. However, when I first launched the software I am getting the following error: The following panel layout is missing or could not be read: /users/rob/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Flash CS5.5/en_US/Configuration/Workspace/Essentials.xml The application will not have a correct layout. load one from Windows ->Workspace Once past this message none of the panels load.

I have a map in a panel.When maximizing the panel,the map remain the smaller size.How to make the map growing synchronizely with the Panel? When maximizing the Panel,I added Resize Effects.How to apply Resize effects on the Map when the extent of the map changing? I discovered this while doing some programmatic panel resizing:Components in a spark Panel will still be visible when their location is outside the physical Panel boundaries. This does not happen with the mx Panel.unning Flex 4.1 on Windows 7I tried putting mx and spark controls in the spark Panel, and they both appear outside of the boundaries. Note this doesn't happen with the mx Panel. What am I missing to make the spark behave like the mxSample Code:

I want to create a panel docking to a pop up panel in my flex app, like Winamp's playlist window can dock to main window. but I didn't find any useful on docking in flex
I've traced the PopUpManager, but I didn't find any available interfaces or events about popup window's moving, I think it's design shouldn't be so bad.

I have basic movie clips, On roll over, show arrows [NEXT, PREVIOUS] on movie clip [they then show other images inside movie clips]I can show arrows on roll over.But when i roll over the arrows the main ROLLOUT function gets called, the arrows hide. I've tried several flagging methods and have resulted in using a larger invisible border around the clip, rolling over that hides them.

When you open the Library panel and then my a new library so like you have 2 on the screen now pretty helpful if you want to open an external and have your current project open and drag and drop right. But here is the part I don't understand you have your 2 panels open now and every time you open your Library panel 2 pop up instead of one. God forbid if you every opened like 4 or 5 of these free floating Library panels I already have 3 going and there up there. is there a way to have all your open your Library panel with out having multiple un-needed Library opening along with the one you want?

This has lost me already about 30 minutes of my work time. The panel decided to make itself extra tall, so I can't see the bottom of the panel. I see no way to vertically resize the panel. The only way that I think you can do that is to click and drag the bottom of the panel. The bottom of the panel is below the bottom of the screen even though I've dragged the panel up as high as it can go. How do I resize it?

I have an empty SWF that's sole purpose is to call loadMovieNum and start the project. Each loaded movie has a few variables defined within them - unique to those loaded SWFs. Instead of declaring all the variables in each SWF can I declare all of them in one place, in the first frame of the empty loader it all starts from? I'm thinking I can then declare a variable which each loaded movie can increment as needed for me.

How can I make a bunch of variables from a for loop. for example for (var i=0; i<total; i++) {var bunch(i);}. that i make a bunch of variables named bunch1, bunch2, bunch3. I keep getting errors. I program and use so many different languages that I dont know if that can be done with AS3. my only other alternative i can think of is to create some sort of event dispatcher object array. but I dont know how to get them all to send events to one listener with there index number.

I have a list of strings that I add to an array, then attempt to set those values in a for-loop using data that I read in. The array gets updated, but the values the array contains do not. I also have an array of buttons that I update this same way that works great, but strings don't seem to work the same way. I have tried moving the string array to give it full scope, and still nothing...

I'm writing code that takes data from mysql that's processed by a PHP script. It's actually a bit bizarre, at least to me. Anyway, here's some basic AS3 code that's moving toward what I want to do:

For some reason, the statement "trace(evt.target.data);" produces a whole pile of garbled text before the actual stuff that it's supposed to show Because of problem #1, I've had to include a throwaway variable at the beginning, otherwise the first variable I try to pass into AS3 comes back as undefined. This causes errors when I run my flash movie in the IDE, but when I run it from the browser it doesn't seem to have any effect.But this is the strangest thing of all whenever I make any changes to the database (and subsequently try to load data from different variables), the new variables come back as undefined. For example, let's say that I add another entry to the database, and decide to load students 2, 3, and 4 instead of 1, 2, and 3. When I do that, any new data I've added comes back as undefined, even though when I view the PHP output in my browser, it looks just fine.
And now for the REALLY bizarre part: I'll copy that output, paste it into my PHP script as an echo statement, comment everything else out, and my flash movie runs fine. Even though the output from the PHP script is exactly the same, it gives me errors.

I am unable to view the Actions Panel window in a document I've already done a lot of work in. It worked previously - I created an Actions Layer and was able to add action script, however, when I try to open it back up to edit the action script I wrote, neither the F9 shortcut nor the Windows>Actions pulls up the Actions Panel. In fact, when I try either method, nothing happens.

I am drawing a cellular automaton simulation on a Flex Canvas. I alternate computing the state of the automaton with updating the graphics on the Panel. However, the updating of the Panel does not seem to be "keeping up" with the update of the CA state.
I'm wondering whether I am doing something wrong with my handling of the graphics code. The code is below. Sorry it's so lengthy, but I don't think the problem will happen with anything simpler (well, it probably will, but I'm not certain I want to take the time to find it).

when inspection the number of children each element has in eclipse, the control bar numChildren property goes up, but the panel doesn't so its as if its not getting added.

There is a bird, and you control its upwards movement with a key. It has thrust, gravity, it works fine. The problem is I have a bunch of icicles that come at the bird that he is supposed to avoid. I tried this first with math random to use as an x coordinate and than move across the screen, but the icicles had the same x-coordinates sometimes. I tried does not equal(!=) but that doesn't work. I made an array and each number that came out of the array I assigned a different variable. This works fine. I put this variable into the x-coordinate such as mc.x=((n)*60)+480. I did this for five different icicles. All their differnt variables have a different value, and I put them into the same function for each individual video clip, but they still don't go to the right coordinate. Here is the test code just for the initial coordinate of each icicle before it moves...////////////////////////////Quote:

basically i have defined their onLoad functions
so in myVars, i call for
