ActionScript 2.0 :: Using Variables To Manipulate Flash Movie?

I am trying to create an interactive flash that users will be able to manipulate certain events in the game. I was was wondering if it was possible to1. Make objects appear or disappear in a frame if a variable is set to a particular number.n example being a window, if you click on it, it opens and closes if clicked on again. If you open the window and go to a different frame, is there a way to make it be open when you go back? 2. Determine the next frame. An example being a door, if the variable is 1 then the door would open when clicked, to the next frame. If it is 0 then it would tell you you need a key or such.I wrapped my head around creating variables and manipulating variables using basic functions.The only thing I am having problems with is if there is an "if"chieve these two tasks.Edit: Figured out number 2:'blueButton' is the variable, when pressed it changes its stored number by two. would like to do is script the buttons so that before a new clip opens up the clip which is visible goes to a frame to play out an animation where it fades out and shrinks. (one clips fades out and shrinks before the next one opens.)what i want to do is not as elaborate but it gives an idea of finishing a clip off before another opens

My problem is that I want to load an external swf in an empty movieclip and then manipulate this loaded swf from my main movie. For example tell it to go to a certain frame. Is such a thing possible?
I have a flash map of the UK which is divided up into the counties, a user clicks on a county and is then directed to a new url, eg. [url].... The flash map remains on that new page in case they wish to select a new region.
What I want to know: is it possible to manipulate the flash so that if the [url]...then london remains highlighted on the flash map. I presume I will have to use some AS which is fine as long as it is AS3.
I'm trying to manually dispatch events on a textfield so I can manipulate it indirectly via code (e.g. place cursor at a given set of x/y coordinates). However, my events seem to have no effect.
I've written a test to experiment with this phenomenon:
As we can see, the events are being captured and replayed successfully. However, no change occurs in tf2 - the mouse cursor does not appear in tf2 as we would expect. In fact, the cursor remains in tf even after the tf2 events are dispatched.

manipulate my flash code through HTML. My application should have two variants - with panel and without panel.I want to tell Flash to make my panel visible only if there is "yes" parameter in the HTML code. I am doing it with FlashVars. I know there is way to make it so: [code]When I start the application on a browser Flash makes no difference between "yes" and "no" parameter so I am doing it wrong. That's my first time passing variables from html to flash and it's a bit hard to understand.
I am just learning to use Flash CS5 Professional (aided by the "Flash Basics" tutorials of Lynda.com). I am presently trying to manipulate symbols as motion-tweens with the 3-D rotation tool found in the Flash toolbar. At the moment I'm trying to take a single word originally created as text, now a symbol, and animate it with motion-tweens so that it appears to be twirling on its x axis or y axis as though it's tumbling through the air like a coin.My trouble is that I can successfully get the symbol to motion-tween itself through one half of a single rotation. But nothing I try seems to work to have the symbol complete its rotation all the way around without the symbol wanting to suddenly flip and rotate in the other direction to complete the full 360 degree rotation. Every trick I use, the symbol wants to tween back the way it came to finish its rotation. This is happening whether I try to rotate type as a symbol, or whether I use other objects (rectangles, ovals, etc.) I've created and then converted to symbols and then movie clips (which I have done in all cases). No matter what I try, this program is not cooperating. What am I doing wrong. My Flash CS5 often behaves as if it's buggy (I'm running it on a brand new state of the art iMac, with the latest version of Snow Leopard as my OS). But even with all it's other little bugs, restarting Flash doesn't seem to clear up this mystery.
I'm using the data/services in Flash Builder 4 to access the php functions of a site within an Air based Crud, and figuring out the most efficient ways to work with the data objects that come back.

The data comes back as an associative array, which is fine if I want everything from it to be treated the same. But I'm not sure how I am supposed to pull a particular column from the array without having to go through a for loop to parse through it.. since right now the contact name would be at allContacts[i].name.
Basically I want to make a list of the names from the allContacts, so I want an array of allContacts[i].name to set as the data provider for a element. Is there any way to get that done without having to write a for loop to convert it into a new array or writing a new php function?
Scenario 1: Within some 3D container object, I would like to add two Cubes: one without any transformation, and one with small position, rotation and scale adjustments. After adding those two cubes, I would like to also transform the container's position, rotation and scale.
Scenario 2: In a 3D character's body, it consists of many hierarchical children (and subchildren), each having various transformations over the course of an animation.
How do I calculate these individual 3D object transformations efficiently? Can it even be possible to do this with only one VertexBuffer3D? Or do I need several VertexBuffer3D to keep track of each objects? Using multiple VertexBuffer3D seems like it could hit a limit (but I haven't read enough of the Stage3D / Context3D documentation to know for sure).
I cant believe that Flash will let you load data from a text file then doesn't allow you to do anything with the data other than display it. Surely there must be a way you can do something the data imported ie perform some calculations. Is this beyond Flash or is this something that has been addressed in AS3? All the tutorials I've found all stop at just displaying and 'swonking'.

Im working on a project where i need to create a webpage that the end user can upload an image (gif, jpg, png) that is then transformed and mapped to a perspective shape, then saved to the server, and linked in the mysql DB.Has anyone done something like this before?Id like to do this in flash, if possible, if not, I guess shockwave is the next optionbecause you cant distort flash movie clips to create a "perspective" im gonna need to use something like this:

If you wanted to create a client-side Flash-based sound editor that lets you load more than 1 sound to an interface that allows you to manipulate the individual positions of the sounds, and mix/play them in real time, how would you accomplish this?
I'm looking to create a simple version that can mix 2 mp3s, allowing the user to adjust the positions of each. Sort of a dumbed down version of Aviary's Myna audio editor.
At the end of the mixing, I would also like our server to mix the 2 mp3 files with the proper positioning into 1 mp3 file...
I am trying to create a flash movie that takes variables from the address bar of the page in which it is contained, and then displays the results.If possible I would like to use PHP in conjunction with flash to achieve this.
I have a flash8 object embedded in a VB.net form. I use GetVariable and SetVariable from VB to get and set variables in the flash movie. This works great until you try to do a GetVariable on a variable in the movie that hasn't been defined. I would expect it to return 'undefined' or 'null', but instead my VB app becomes stuck, seemingly waiting for the GetVariable response... I tried to do a TypeOf check to see if a null is returned, but no luck with that either.
I need a way to store variables which I can access from anywhere in a Flash movie (and from any script that is compiled with it). I go about this now that the _global object is gone?
1. I made a variable in main.swf, var num:Number = 5, and then i load home.swf, how do i access the var num from home.swf ? In AS2 i can use trace(_root.num), how do i do this in AS3?
2. How do i access a movie clip from different loaded SWF file?
I'm having trouble with this previous posted tutorial. I followed the instructions step by step but it just didn't work for me.In the PHP Script I replaced this line:

When you click on a link, it takes you (_self) to an "in-between" page that contains another Flash movie (that tells customer to be sure to come back to our page in the future). This Flash movie is coded so that it automatically opens a new window (_blank) to a different site. Then, HERE IS WHERE I HAVE MY PROBLEM, the original page (which is now hidden behind the new window) redirects you (_self) back to the homepage. SOOOO, when your on the new window, you can hear the lady's voice in the background.
NOW, what I want to do is to pass a variable so that, when you get redirected back to the homepage, it skips the lady speaking and goes directly to the looping slideshow.For example, "if F=1, gotoAndPlay(346);"I know that's not proper actionscript, I'm just saying what I have in mind.I've never passed variables before, so the more detailed the better.Note: I am using Flash CS3 and Dreamweaver CS3 (.asp)
I'm making a game and I need to load variables into my flash movie from a database.My problem is that when I try to load the data into flash, it won't let me use the variables. If I put a dynamic textfield on the stage with fname (one of my variables), the text field diplays the correct data, but when I say trace(fname) with having the text field, "undefined" pops up.
I have 2 buttons in a flash movie with the following codes. They open a new URL that also contains a flash movie and it sends the variable "nFrame" and a value.

When the new URL opens I want the flash movie to begin at a particular frame depending on what variable "nFrame" is equal to. I tried placing this code in the first frame to do it but it didn't work, the movie just loops and loops and doesn't stop at any frame.
I'm basically trying to extract a series of variables that are passed in URL from another flash movie. I have researched flash vars and the like and didnt really get far.[code]I was able to get the URL into Flash!So flash now has a variable called "section" that holds a string like this.url...My question is; how do i get the values held in each of these days, weeks, years, etc into a format that can be used with in the flash movie. Ideally into seperate variables where the values can be returned in a textbox.
I'm trying to do a demo with a fastforward button and a rewind button that will go to the next scene and previous scene...however, due to the format that my predecessor created used...I'm stuck with alot of scenes. The navbar (ff and rewind buttons) is in a .swf file called main. The actual demo is in demo3.swf. I created a loader scene to redirect to the correct scene (when ff and rewind are hit), but I'm not sure how to pass the variables needed from the main movie.
Make things very simple, I need to pass variables between different movie clips (.swf's) on my main movie. It seems as tho my variables are only local, not global, i just need to know how to initialize global variables, and how to use the global variables in my other swf's.
So that when it loads I can pass variables to the movie. But this isn't working for me!
It seems that I can access variables going in one direction, but not in the other.
For instance if I was in the MainMovie, and had a code such as: MyHeight = this.MovieWithin.ThisHeight
Then this would work absolutely fine! But if I try to access variables in the other direction, from the inner movie to the outer movie, it just won't have it!
I've tried the _parent technique with no joy!
Basically I want to be able to load several movies (not at the same time!) into my MovieWithin, but be able to control their state on loading by accessing the variables in the MainMovie.
