Flash :: Use VertexBuffer3D To Manipulate Objects In A Hierarchical Display Structure?

Dec 25, 2011

Scenario 1: Within some 3D container object, I would like to add two Cubes: one without any transformation, and one with small position, rotation and scale adjustments. After adding those two cubes, I would like to also transform the container's position, rotation and scale.

Scenario 2: In a 3D character's body, it consists of many hierarchical children (and subchildren), each having various transformations over the course of an animation.

How do I calculate these individual 3D object transformations efficiently? Can it even be possible to do this with only one VertexBuffer3D? Or do I need several VertexBuffer3D to keep track of each objects? Using multiple VertexBuffer3D seems like it could hit a limit (but I haven't read enough of the Stage3D / Context3D documentation to know for sure).

ActionScript 3.0 :: Removing Objects In Tree Structure From Display List

Mar 21, 2011

I've asked this question before but had no answers... so here I go again I have a structure of objects: Top object A has as children (addChild children that is...) one or more objects B_1 to B_n. The B_n may in turn have one (1) associated object A' (Same type as top object, not displayed to begin with). When I click a B_n two things may happen:

1. If it has as associated object a A', put it on the stage (as child to B_n).

2. Otherwise it is a leaf and it does other things.

If '2' happens I want to collapse the tree, that is remove the top and all children of same type from being displayed. I thought a recursive approach should work:

ActionScript 3.0 :: Webservices And Manipulate The Nodes Further Into The XML Structure

Apr 13, 2011

I am banging my head bloody here. I have this webservice to wich i have to post an XML scheme in order to get a result back. The XML is supposed to be formatted like illustrated in the fla file Now, when i construct this XML in Flash i can trace out properties from that, for example:

trace(wsRequestXmlBody.children().children().child ren().children()[2].text()); // traces passord.

But what i want to do is change for instance the value of that node to a dynamic value. I can manage to add a node to the XML by doing:

var testvariabel:String = "mytest"
wsRequestXmlBody.insertChildAfter(wsRequestXmlBody .children(), <test>{testvariabel}</test>);

But i just cant manage to manipulate the nodes further into the XML structure, or change their values. What i wish to do is for instance change the value of the tag <password></password> and assign my own dynamic value there.

Also, when i use the namespacing shown in the fla, it sort of strips the first tag of the original XML structure (the Envelope tag), i would like to preserve all the tags in the structure, and simply be able to change the value of some of them. I guess it has to do with the namespace structure, but im not good att understanding namespacing.

Flex :: Parent Data Calculated From Children Fields In Hierarchical Data Structure

Jun 17, 2009

In flex 3 I have a hierarchical data structure. I would like to display the content of it in a tree. My problem is that I have nodes which data calculated from children nodes. How to structure the hierarchy to make automatic changes to those parent nodes, if their children's data changed? For example:

Every node has a warning flag. If some of the children warning flag changed to true, then the parent warning flag should change automatically set to true. A node integer field is the sum of the children integer fields, and if any of the children changes, the parent integer field "calculates" the sum immediately. Is there an easy solution wit good structuring changes happen automatically, or I have to make some custom functions?

Actionscript :: Manipulate The Position Of Multiple Sound Objects Client-side In Flash?

Jan 20, 2011

If you wanted to create a client-side Flash-based sound editor that lets you load more than 1 sound to an interface that allows you to manipulate the individual positions of the sounds, and mix/play them in real time, how would you accomplish this?

I'm looking to create a simple version that can mix 2 mp3s, allowing the user to adjust the positions of each. Sort of a dumbed down version of Aviary's Myna audio editor.

At the end of the mixing, I would also like our server to mix the 2 mp3 files with the proper positioning into 1 mp3 file...

Flash :: Flex 4.5: Tree - Make A Flex Tree Component Display The Children Of A Sprite In A Hierarchical Way

Nov 19, 2011

I'm trying to make a Flex Tree Component display the children of a sprite in a hierarchical way. Moreover, dragging the items on the FlexTree would resort and reparent the items. I have special Elements set as Folders. This would allow other elements to be added there as a children by dragging an element on the tree and dropping it there. I have a failed attempt which works, but breaks when I try to add folders. Basically, it fails at reparenting the items by dragging and resorting folders and that Does anyone know of a component or something which can do this, has anyone have created any of this or could anyone give me a clue?

Flash - Should A New VertexBuffer3D & IndexBuffer3D Be Created For Each Program3D Used

Jan 18, 2012

If I have a few Program3D objects (each with it's own Vertex-Shader and Fragment-Shader responsible for it's own rendering task), do I need to instantiate a new VertexBuffer3D and IndexBuffer3D so that they store the data only relevant to the vertex-data format used by their corresponding Program3D?

For example, if I was planning to define Quads in different vertex-data formats, such as:

var vertexData:Vector.<Number>;
//Vertex-Format A:
vertexData = new <Number>[

[code]....

Would I need to create one VertexBuffer3D and IndexBuffer3D to store format A, another one for format B, and yet another one for format C? Or can the various formats be mixed inside the same VertexBuffer3D and then make some clever (or confusing!) use of a single IndexBuffer3D to draw the triangles?

Flash :: ActionScript 3 Package Structure And Directory Structure

Jan 23, 2011

I seem to run into compile issues in Flash Builder when I import 3rd-party libraries at the wrong level in the directory structure. For example, sometimes I'll import a library one level too deep into its directory tree, and the package explorer ends up excluding the prefix root-level package, usually "com." or "net.". Even though the content of the source itself doesn't change, this will cause compile errors.

Thus: Is it a 1) convention or 2) language requirement that a class's package structure (e.g., "foo.bar.Class") must match its path location (e.g., foo/bar/Class.as)?
If it's a language requirement, why is it a requirement? Wouldn't that overdetermine the package structure, since it is already specified in the source code and quite happily consuming the first three to eight columns of each line? If it's not a language requirement, are my compile errors just a result of Flash Builder enforcing the convention?

The reason i ask is my current project has a rotating + enlarging effect which is largely dynamic so sometimes an object may clip the edge of the stage areathis looks messy but i dont want to increase the stage area to cover  the largest possible area any object could enter because most of the time the objects are at the center and small so i would end up with a lot of white space

Flash - Sorting Display Objects By Their Display List Depth

Aug 5, 2011

I have a list containing display objects from throughout the application (insertion order). I want to process the list either top-down (parent, child) or bottom up (child, parent). The only requirement is that either a parent is processed before any child or vice versa a child before its parent. What is a good approach? This question is not about sorting a list. It's about retrieving the depth of a particular display object.

Example
Display list:
A (root)
B1
C1
C2
D1
B2
......

My list:
list = [E1, F4, A, B2, B1, C3, ..., N9, N8]

Bottom-up:
N9, N8, F4, E1, C3, B2, B1, A

Top-down:
A, B2, B1, C3, E1, F4, N9, N8
Does not matter if N9 before N8 or N8 before N9. Important is that any N is before M (first run) or any M before its children N* (second run).

stage.stageWidth = 300;

Flash - Calling Display Objects To Stage

Apr 15, 2012

I'm new with strings and arrays. I want script to calling display objects to the stage and the timer to move images up and down to appear like a scrolling numbers. I start getting sloppy, and mess up passing to Tweener.

- An explanation or strategy may be enough, "I've got pretty close on this one"
- There was confusion regarding the Containers and addChildren...looked like arrays

The code "get as far as error with NumbersView and numbers undefined etc".

import flash.display.DisplayObject;
import flash.display.MovieClip;
import flash.utils.Dictionary;
import flash.events.Event;
import caurina.transitions.Tweener;
[Code] .....

The methods were proved separately. "I got a earlier version of the document going, but I need to work through this to understand it."

Symbol Properties
Class ImageView
Tweener
The "caurina" folder needs to be present
Rolling Numbers "Success loading numbers and connecting to counter".

Placed the movie clip object on stage with two dynamic text fields in it. Make sure the container is placed on stage, has the two text fields in it, and everything is given a proper instance name. Also include the caurina folder.

Seconds MovieClip symbol with instance name of seconds
firstDigit Dynamic text field with instance name of firstDigit, placed in seconds
secondDigit Dynamic text field with instance name of secondDigit, placed in seconds

Symbol
Un-tick 'Export for ActionScript'
Use 'Name, Class, and Instance' correctly

Actionscript 3 :: Handle Mouse Events On Occluded (overlapped) Display Objects In Flash/flex?

Sep 3, 2011

I want to handle the mouseevents for all the sprites on the stage including the one those are hidden behind (or overlapped or occluded) and the main condition is that I want to handle the occluded sprite (that hidden behind other sprite). example, say I have sprite1 and sprite2 on stage and I want to start drag whenever i click on the sprite and stop drag after another click.

This can be done easily, but the problem and my main requirement is that if I drag the sprite1 and drop it exactly on top of the sprite2 then sprite2 will be hidden behind the sprite1 I wont be able to drag the sprite2 without moving the sprite1 first. if you have played zynga's empires and allais game on facebook, it is handled seperatly, it is how it works in that game, the mouse event is triggered on the sprite behind the overlapping sprite, if you have two sprites overlapping one sprite than the mouse event is triggered on the sprite which is last and not the one in front irrespective of whether there is only one sprite overlapping or two or three and this happens to irregular shaped sprites (not just rectangles)

As we can see, the events are being captured and replayed successfully. However, no change occurs in tf2 - the mouse cursor does not appear in tf2 as we would expect. In fact, the cursor remains in tf even after the tf2 events are dispatched.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Using Variables To Manipulate Flash Movie?

Apr 26, 2009

I am trying to create an interactive flash that users will be able to manipulate certain events in the game. I was was wondering if it was possible to1. Make objects appear or disappear in a frame if a variable is set to a particular number.n example being a window, if you click on it, it opens and closes if clicked on again. If you open the window and go to a different frame, is there a way to make it be open when you go back? 2. Determine the next frame. An example being a door, if the variable is 1 then the door would open when clicked, to the next frame. If it is 0 then it would tell you you need a key or such.I wrapped my head around creating variables and manipulating variables using basic functions.The only thing I am having problems with is if there is an "if"chieve these two tasks.Edit: Figured out number 2:'blueButton' is the variable, when pressed it changes its stored number by two. I linked it to another button which this code is attached to...

PHP Code:

Professional :: Can't Manipulate Symbols With Flash CS5 3-D Rotation Tools

Jan 27, 2011

I am just learning to use Flash CS5 Professional (aided by the "Flash Basics" tutorials of Lynda.com). I am presently trying to manipulate symbols as motion-tweens with the 3-D rotation tool found in the Flash toolbar. At the moment I'm trying to take a single word originally created as text, now a symbol, and animate it with motion-tweens so that it appears to be twirling on its x axis or y axis as though it's tumbling through the air like a coin.My trouble is that I can successfully get the symbol to motion-tween itself through one half of a single rotation. But nothing I try seems to work to have the symbol complete its rotation all the way around without the symbol wanting to suddenly flip and rotate in the other direction to complete the full 360 degree rotation. Every trick I use, the symbol wants to tween back the way it came to finish its rotation. This is happening whether I try to rotate type as a symbol, or whether I use other objects (rectangles, ovals, etc.) I've created and then converted to symbols and then movie clips (which I have done in all cases). No matter what I try, this program is not cooperating. What am I doing wrong. My Flash CS5 often behaves as if it's buggy (I'm running it on a brand new state of the art iMac, with the latest version of Snow Leopard as my OS). But even with all it's other little bugs, restarting Flash doesn't seem to clear up this mystery.

Flash :: Flex - Manipulate Data Returned From PHP Service In Builder

I'm using the data/services in Flash Builder 4 to access the php functions of a site within an Air based Crud, and figuring out the most efficient ways to work with the data objects that come back.

The data comes back as an associative array, which is fine if I want everything from it to be treated the same. But I'm not sure how I am supposed to pull a particular column from the array without having to go through a for loop to parse through it.. since right now the contact name would be at allContacts[i].name.

Basically I want to make a list of the names from the allContacts, so I want an array of allContacts[i].name to set as the data provider for a element. Is there any way to get that done without having to write a for loop to convert it into a new array or writing a new php function?
