ActionScript 2.0 :: Clone Method For 3D Point Class

Feb 27, 2006

I can't work out how to create a temporary copy of a 3D point class on which I'll perform some calculations which I don't want to effect the original. In C++ it's called deep copying. How do you do it in actionscript?

Flex :: Adobe Flex - Event MetaData Tag And Clone Method?

Jul 22, 2011

overriding clone() while creating custom events?I read in the Flex cookbook that we need just in case we want to redispatch this event. Does this exactly means that when we want event to be bubbled up the display hierarchy , at that time our custom cloned event should be dispatched and not the Event object.

second - whats the need of metadata tag -
[Event(name="modelEvent", type="com.abc.data.model.ModelEvent")]
public class LoginModel extends EventDispatcher
I understand we need to extend EventDispatcher in case we want to dispatch evnet from class.. but In what cases i would need to specify the MetaData TAg

Third is.. If i write -- "dynamic customEventClass extends Event".. Is there any use of Dynamic i can make?

Actionscript 3 :: Clone An Instance Of A Class (Display Object)

Jun 3, 2011

I have a collection of movieclips, I would like to create a clone (a new instance) of a instance everytime I create a new object.

For example

var s:Star = new Star(); // star-shaped movielcip
addChild(s);
// then I want to duplicate an instance of s and add it beside s

For an example like above, it's simple enough to create a new instance with a different name and just add it to the display list. But I have a list of objects I would like to clone as a group...?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Distance From Point To Point And Referencing Other Instances Of The Same Class

Feb 8, 2009

I'm creating a game in flash for a university project, and learning actionscript and programming as I go. I'm very much still at a beginner level - at the moment al I have is some actionscript for drawing rectangles and moving them about the screen. This is what I'm having trouble with at the moment: I have a class called 'Creature', and I want instances of it to interact with each other. I want them to do something when they come within a certain distance of another instance. And I want them to be able to pick a random other instance to get the location of, in order to do something with that information.

What I think I need is: A function for telling the distance between two (x,y) points.
A way of referencing the nearest other instance of the class. And a way of randomly selecting from all of the instances of the class.

Actionscript 3 :: Properly Extend The Point Class?

Jan 25, 2012

I come to need a bit more info from my points, so I thought I'd add a previousX, previousY so that I can get a deltaX and deltaY. Now, this works fine if I make a simple self contained class. I think, however, that I'd like to extend the flash.geom.Point class to benefit from the other functions and calculations it offers.

So I extended Point and modified the x and y setters as I needed. When I compile, I get an error that these setters are not marked for override when they should be. So I override, but then I get an error that says these do not override any function.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Class Theory From A Designers Point Of View?

Aug 20, 2009

I have been using flash since version 3 as a designer.I want to know how to make an object that I have manually placed on the stage from the library with a Class attached to it, interact with the Document Class? So I am basically dragging the item onto the stage and this item has a class attached and the Document Class with all of its SubClasses needs to know this exists.

Now I was dabbling with making geometry wars to learn AS3 Classes and it was great fun, I set up the Document Class, my enemies and Player 1 Spaceship. I worked out my different SubClasses, and everything was added to the stage by AddChild() along with all SubClasses being created through the Document Class....Every Class Object was linked to the Document Class as everything was created either by it or through SubClasses under it. So I had full control to do what I wanted. However, all I ever see are elements generated dynamically to the stage. As a designer I want to animate things here and there and then at specific times possibly gain control of this item with it's Class attached, but I want the Document to have a link to this Item.

Also can everybody please stop generating text boxes dynamically all of the time. just create a MovieClip with the form elements on it if it's a form that isnt going to change in layout at all. But this leads onto the same sort of questions, the items arent being created and added to the stage as objects so you still have to make the MovieClip Class understand the items under it exist, I would do it by the Instance Name but is this dirty these days in AS3..
