ActionScript 2.0 :: Controlling Two Different Movie Clips With 2 Different Buttons?

I am somewhat new to flash and am having some trouble trying to control two different movie clips with two different buttons. Currently when either one of the buttons is pressed both movie clips start to play. How can I set file up so that if button 1 is pressed movie clip 1 will play and if button 2 is pressed movie clip 2 will play
Ive been having problems getting buttons within a movie clip to control the main timeline and switch scenes. Ive tried everything from _root.gotoAndPlay to with(_parent) and such.
What I'm trying to do is have my Flash piece have custom elements set by an XML file. I'm using ColorTransform. I have a piece that's loaded as a separate movie clip, and I can't figure out how to get to the piece and apply the ColorTransform.
Here's one example of what I'm doing for a different element on the same mc.

So, in this example, I'm setting header_mc to a color specified in the xml. In the case I'm having trouble with, I want to set a color to a movie clip on the timeline and not the main movie
I have multiple movie clips on stage (all in separate layers, of course) as well as buttons on stage to play each movie clip. There are buttons inside each movie clip. The problem is that the buttons inside the top layered movie clip work, but the others in the movie clips below don't.
Im working on a quiz kind of game in which if you click an object, you get a question (the object is a movie clip and the question is within it). If you answer it, the movie clip stops at a particular frame. And so go all the objects in the game. Now, because you cant predict which object the user will click on last, I dont know how to bring in an ending screen saying that they've completed it successfully.
im trying to get a button to move a list of movie clips up and down how would u go about this
e.g
i have a button at the top of the stage and a button at the bottom and when the top one is clicked it moves up one movie clip till last one is hit. and if the bottom one is hit it moves down one until it hits the last one
I have a movie clip nested in frame 2 (* = movie clip in frame 2), it looks like this:

When I test the movie it skips over frame 2. What type of action script (AS2) do I need either in the movie clip and/or in frame 2 to get the movie to play before proceeding and stopping at frame 3?
Basically what I'm trying to do is have one button move two objects, each at different speeds. My first object is called "bg" the second is called "test." I have two buttons, "left" and "right" and when they are clicked on, only the "test" object moves. Here's the code I'm using:

I made a flash animation using timelines and broke my movie up into three clips. The clips run fine in their own time line. I was reading about clip.play() clip.stop() and it seemed like I could do this. I have a main timeline with three frames. Each frame has a movie clip symbol on it. Each movie clip symbol has a timeline a few seconds long in it.I did this because I want to put a click event that will go to a different url depending on which clip the viewer is currently seeing. This swf file will be embedded into an html document.When I run the resulting swf - the three frames on the main timeline zip along like crazy and the movie clips don't play at all. I've tried every combination of stop() and play() I can think of but this is just not working as advertised.My movie clips have instance names of Clip1, Clip2 and Clip3.

I need to make some animation working without changing its structure, but I have no idea how to control mc instances on diffrent frames and diffrent movie clips. Below is example.When button is clicked, mc2 starts to play.
In the FLA file i have two animations of a turbine and a fan turning one is controlled via a button the other is a loop action that is not controlled.The button control is simple telling the movie clips to got frame 2 and play,and on the fan and turbine movie clips I have a goto and play frame 2 action the end of their time line. By doing this I get a rotation effect .
The problem is that when I call play function from the start button the movie clip does not play properly and just shudders between frames,rather than way it should run as a looped animation.
I have created a website on the time line. There is actionscipt contolling which frame to play via a button. Within this button is a movieclip with a fade in using alpha on its own timeline with a stop(); at the end.The problem is I only want it to play when you first see it from moving to that page from the main timeline. Currently if i move over the button it plays the movie again which i dont want to happen. I do however want to retain the over states etc for the button.
Im creating a booklet with turning pages, like the one previously posted, so all the content is loaded dynamically.On the right hand page i have text, of which some lines are interactive.On the left page, i have a hidden text box. When the user clicks on a certain line on the right page, the text box on the left page becomes visible, and the relevant txt is loaded into the text box.Now, i can make the text box on the left page invisible by placing _visible = 0; directly into the actionscript pane of the text box.What i cant do is make it visible by clicking on the right page text. Where should i put the code to make the text box visible?Is it as simple as movieClip._visible = 1; ?
So I want to control a movie clips rotation with the location of the mouse, with easing if possible. But I am having some trouble figuring out where to start
So I have been trying to figure out a way to control multiple clips using the same "on press" & "on release" statements located on 1st frame of main timeline. A variable is being set to a value that correlates to the name of each movie clip as an interaction occurs.Ex: user clicks from a selection of buttons & depending on the button clicked it sets clipNum = "1" through "21".What I want is to have something like the following code that will give the user the ability to click and drag the clip with code on the main timeline similar to the following:
I Have 3 Movies:MAIN.SWF, contains loading movie actions for Nav.swf and Home.swf.NAV.SWF, contains navagation menu loaded on Level 2 in Main HOME.SWF, contains slideshow for home page loaded on Level 1 in Main In NAV.SWF, there is a MOVIE CLIP "graphmc", which contains a BUTTON "graphicbtn", When this button is clicked, I'd like the HOME.SWF (which is loaded into Main.swf on Level 1) to fade out and unload, and load and fade in Graphics.SWF in place of it.
I have two buttons (a and b) and a ball movie clip (ballMove) on the screen.This is what I want to happen:The ball starts off under button A. If you click button A, the ball stays where it is. If you click button B, the ball moves over to button B.When the ball is under button B it won't move if B if clicked, but will move to A if A is clicked.How I plan on doing this is within the ball movie there will be three motion tweens, staggered so they don't overlap. The first isn't a tween at all, actually. It is one key frame at the very start of the movie timeline. I have labelled it "beginning". Also, it has a stop action and var busbus = 1. Bus is the variable I want to use to track the position of the ball.
The next tween is the ball travelling from point a to b. The start frame is labelled "atobbegin". There is a keyframe at the end labelled "atobeend". A stop action is on this keyframe, and also bus = 4.The final tween is the ball travelling from point b to point a. The start frame is labelled "btoabegin" and the end keyframe is labelled "btoaend" with a stop action and bus = 8.Eek, just got Deja Vu.er, moving right along....

Note the button at the top called portfolio, on mouseover this button should loop through the "mouseover" label section, and when the user takes the mouse off of it it should continue to play through what it has started, and stop at the begining of the mouseover labelwhen the user clicks on the button it should play through the "trans" label (only once) and begin to loop at the label section "current" when the user goes to another section, for example, clicks another button besides portfolio, the animation should stop on the label "visited" my code for it to loop looks like this (on the invisible button over the movie clip)

i just started tackling Flash and Actionscript 3.I know how to have a button react to a click by going to and playing (gotoAndPlay) a certain set of frames within the same scene [code].themselves are in a movie clip, and the "aboutpage" frames are in another movie clip back outside in the main timeline... How do I tell it to target that other Movieclip thats on the main timeline and contains the frames called "aboutpage"?Ive seen somethign like: currentTarget.gotoAndPlay ("aboutpage");But currenttarget i think looks for stuff within the target/Movieclip it lies in.. what is the code to do this:
I have connected 2 pages to the index page with movieclips and buttons. I have used this action script on the button "fotoalbum"; [code]This takes me to the page called "bilder".My question is: how do i get from the flashpage "bilder" directly to the other page called " tekst" using the button "om meg"? As it is now i have to use the Home button to go back to the index page...and from there to the other pages.I have attached some test files as im sure my explanation is a bit akward.
I'm creating a timeline of events with about 50 different points to click on. When each event is clicked on, a movie clip needs to appear (or tween onto) the screen. Then, when another event is clicked on, the previous content needs to go away so that the new content can appear.

I've created a custom class of "TimePoint" that has a public property of date, so that I can assign a date to each individual instance of my TimePoint class.
In my fla, he timeline itself is a movie clip that needs to scroll back and forth as the mouse is moved. It contains the nested instances of my TimePoint class. I already have the scrolling movement taken care of, and I also have a tooltip date appearing over each point in time. Now I just need to figure out how to manage 50 different movie clips, each with and without graphics, bitmaps, etc.
I'm just wondering if there is any way to do this without having to create 50 different event listeners and 50 different classes just so that I can add/remove children. I'm thinking I need to use an array, but I don't know how I would implement it. I'm also not very familiar with XML.

For my online gallery, I'm using movie clips as buttons to navigate. I was having the movie clip play when you scrolled over it and off of it. Now i have it so when you click on it, it stops at the mid-way point. What on is to get it to go back to its original state when I click on something else. So basically I'm looking for a way to go back to frame 1 when a different movie clip/button is clicked on. I want it to revert back to what it was in an inactive state when I click on a different part, but I don't know how to do that
I'm working on my own personal website for my graphic design work and I'm using flash for the intro movie, which you can either skip or after an elapsed time, sends you directly to the home page. On that intro movie (which ill call animatedface_mc) i've put two other movie clips with the eyes blinking (left and right). The eyes would be constantly blinking, as this page is open. That one is working. Off to the side are buttons of names of famous celebrities and once clicked it adds movie clips to the main animatedface_mc. For example if i clicked on the monroe_mc, it adds that famous Marilyn Monroe mole (using either mask or opacity, depending on the facial feature) on the animatedface_mc. If I clicked on tyson_mc, it adds his face tattoo. I've used the following code for this:
I have 2 movie clips on my main timeline (let's call them MovieClip1 & MovieClip2). I have buttons inside MovieClip1 that I'm trying to (on release) direct to a specific frame in MovieClip2. Is this possible? I've tried COUNTLESS different gotoandplay and gotoandstop codes, but nothing works.
Being rather "green" with actionscripting, I am having difficulties using a sliding menu (very similar to the "infinite menu" tutorial here on kirupa) in conjuction with some actionscripting to interact with some external movies outside the main movie I am working with. What I want to do is to use each button within the menu to reference a flash movie outside the menu bar (which is a movie clip). Before I sound even more vague let me show you the code first....
So here I have a button instance (aboards) of one of the 10 buttons in the menu. I want to then reference a movie clip called "target" in the main scene of my movie to then load and display the movie aboard.swf at this reference point.
This code works well with static buttons on the main scene, but here each of the 10 buttons are located within the movie clip that makes the sliding menu work. The instance "aboards" of course works if I assign the instance to the movie clip, but then that of course means that ALL 10 buttons then will be assigned "aboards". What code change can I make to fix this issue so that each of the 10 buttons (within the movie clip) carry their own instance that can be referenced from the main scene?
I have assigned a movie clip to a hit state of a button, but alas, it refuses to work. Can anyone suggest a way of using actionscript to play a short movie clip on release of the mouse?
im having an issue with a cursor i made following this tutorial...http:[url]........the cursor works fine with a regular button however i have buttons inside movieclips, i tried it but it isnt working, i keep getting an error in the output...
