Is there a way for flash to detect a user's bandwidth, and depending the size of bandwidth, stop loading, or continue with the load? Now that I'm thinking about it, this would probably be a javascript detection script and if the bandwidth is high, load .swf, if not load a .jpg?
View 3 RepliesI'm testing HLS and HDS right now and i'm wondering how to limit users and bandwidth per virtualhost. I mean in rtmp mode there is the vhost.xml tag far max users and the Application.xml tag for Bandwidth limit, but for http connections (either live or on vod) where can i limit connections or bandwidth?
View 3 RepliesI am trying to get the "bwcheck" application to work on FMS 4 on Amazon EC2, in order to detect my upload speed to the server and provide the best quality stream for my upload speed.
The tutorial I follow is this:
[URL]
Both are almost identical. However when I compile the .fla to .swf (having changed the URL for my server and application), and after I load the server-side code, I get the following error in my server-side log:
Method not found (recData)
I understand that apparently it is not finding the method, but I tried getting it off the function in the global scope, tried attaching it to the client, etc. but nothing worked. The original code of the server-side script is:
for ( i = 0; i < 1000; i++ ) {
data += "S->C";
}
Client.prototype.recData = function(data)
[Code].....

I have pageA that loads sort of flash player, the url of rtmp that player listens to is hidden in other .aspx file that validates a session which generated on pageA. Is there another way or better way to limit users from stealing the rtmp link ?
View 1 RepliesI want to check whether the microphone is connected to the system or not. If not, it should display a warning message and not allowed to record anything. All this should be done through actionscript3.0.

View 14 RepliesI've written a bit of code that will allow users to move objects around the stage and detect if one has hit another. The problem is that it only works for a limited number of objects. how to rewrite the code so that it works with an unlimited number of objects?
View 4 RepliesWe are having a little problem implementing bandwidth detection with FMS, for some reason when enable it, bandwidth consumption spikes significantly I am wondering why? and if there a white paper somewhere that would talk about how properly implement this feature.
View 4 RepliesThere is a flash movie which is using flash.net.Socket to connect to a server. But there could be a situation when the server is not running, hence nothing is listening on the port socket is connecting to.
When I do "telnet hostname port" I get a fast connection refused error. But flash.net.Socket does not invoke any event (see below), but silently waits for socket timeout. For me it is important to reduce time needed to detect non-existing server as much as possible to be able to reconnect to another server in the cluster.
I've tried the following events, but to no avail:
close
connect
ioError
securityError
socketData
None of these is invoked in such situation.
Is there a way to detect that TCP connection has been refused using flash.net.Socket?
I have two versions of video - low and high bandwidth. I want to detect client's internet connection speed to show low or high version of videos. Is it possible to detect Internet Connection Speed in AS2
View 1 RepliesAt run time, Is it possible to detect the 'Connection Speed of the user' and change the way my preloader works? Say If the user is on a Dial up connection then play the initial 50% of the movie that has been loaded while loading the remaining 50% in background, If the user is on DSL or cable then load the entire 100% movie and so on.

View 5 RepliesI have a Flex application that connects to a BlazeDS server using the StreamingAMF channel. On the server-side the logic is handled by a custom adapter that extends ActionScriptAdapter and implements FlexSessionListener and FlexClientListener interfaces.
I am asking how can I detect which "flex-client" has closed a connection when for example the user is closing the browser? (so I can clean some infos inside the database)
I tried using the following:

I need to determine which connection type a device is using. Distinguishing between WIFI and 3G doesn't seem to be a problem on iOS (using the NetworkInfo ANE) and Android (using the native NetworkInfo class) but I've got no clue how to further distinguish between a fast (3G, 4G) and slow (EDGE) connection. Is there a way to do this with Adobe Air?
View 1 RepliesI was recently asked to create a podcast system which grabs a URL from a certain text file and plays it within the document. It's fairly simple, and I have finished programming it.However, a lot of its users have been viewing the content through mobile devices. They saved it to their device and it crashes if there is no network connection.My question is how to detect a network connection error through URLRequest, and then respond with a function.

View 1 RepliesOn the Flash client side,how do I detect when the server purposely closes the TCP connection to its video stream? I'll need to take action when this occurs - maybe attempt to restart the video or display an error message. Currently, the connection closing and the connection being slow look the same to me. The NetStream object ushers a NetStream.Play.Stop event in both cases. When the connection is slow, it usually recovers by itself within seconds.I wish to only take action when the connection is closed, not when it is slow.Here's how my general setup looks like. It's the basic NetConnection->NetStream->Video setup.
this.vidConnection = new NetConnection();
this.vidConnection.addEventListener(AsyncErrorEvent.ASYNC_ERROR, this.connectionAsyncError);[code].....

View 4 RepliesIm trying to make connection from flex to java and from java to mysql. I managed to connect to java, but having error that class not found: com.mysql.jdbc.Driver. But i downloaded mysql.jar, included it added to library, and connection works when i testing it from clipse scrapbook. Dont know what to do, i spend last couple days on this.
Class.forName("com.mysql.jdbc.Driver");
String username = "username";
String password = "password";
[code]....
Basically the solution was simple. Everybody keeps saying to put jar into lib folder, so i done it, but i wasnt realised that i have to put into my servers lib directory, not app lib directory and this miserable mistake cost so much. Anyway i hope this will help for some newbie like me.In this particular situation im using red5, so i putted it into my red5 dist/lib directory and "surprisingly" its started to work.
we have a two way webcam + mic connection set up using FMIS. we use to add a function that kills the connection?

View 5 RepliesI just noticed a workaround something that's been annoying me for a long time. Occasionally my projects vertically line up funny if clip y-coords or heights are based on frame 1 stageHeight. I always thought it was a load-time duration or something like that, but it turns out to be bandwidth profiler (CS4 authoring). Try this on frame 1 of a new, empty project:
this.addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, this.entf); function entf(evt:Event):void{ trace(this.stage.stageHeight); }
When bandwidth profiler is on, the first frame reports -100 the real stageHeight. Now to avoid the problem I just turn off bandwidth profiler. Is it just a bug?
I was trying to find a bandwidth profiler in flex like there used to be one in Flash but couldn't really find one. Is there a way, that I can do bandwidth profiling of my local swf?I'm using Flex Bulider with a AS3 project.
View 2 RepliesI need a meter that shows the current bandwidth rate as a percentage. For example: The maximum bandwidth rate is 4mbps, the current bandwidth is 3mbps, so the bar would be 75% full. This bar would change dynamically as the bandwidth rate changes.
Is there anything out there that already exists like this?
detecting bandwidth in flash?
