how flash handles multiple simultaneous objects being loaded? If I set two images loading into two empty movie clips in two consecutive lines of code, do they both load simultaneously or does the one that was called first load and then the second image load when the first has finished?

I would like to know how flash handles multiple HD video layers. We're planning a project:

- Flash document size 1920x1080
- In the background will be multiple HD videos(probably StageVideo that I will make show and play at certain events - like transition to the menu category)
- In the center of the screen will be a fancy menu object that consists of a PNG sequence's.(6 sequences)
- And a FLV HD Video in the foreground with alpha(maybe some visual effects).

The question is : Is it possible to make something like this without the users to experience lags?

Just a quick query about how Flash handles the preolading of multiple external images. I'm not after code examples, because I know there are an abundance of them around, but I need to know how Flash is able to store the images. Do they all have to be loaded onto the stage, or can they be effectively loaded into the library for dynamic creation at a later moment?

For example, I'm creating a very basic Flash gallery which loads a series of jpegs, using paths from an XML file. The way I'm doing it is to drop the image paths into an array, and create an empty movie clip for each jpeg, into which they are loaded. I then set the visibility of all but the first containers to false. Am I right in thinking that if I was able to preload the jpegs without instantiating them, I wouldn't have to create individual containers, and could just attach them dynamically when required?

I know that in AS3, display objects can be added to the display stack without actually creating instances of them (with addChild). This is the sort of thing I'm hoping to be able to do. Hope this is all clear, and that my grasp of the way Flash loads and stores external images is sound. If not, I'm ready to stand corrected!

I am trying to do a little multimedia player where I have at least 9 small videoclips that I would like to place and play - all controlled by AS 3.0.

It might even be more than 9 clips, but they will show randomly in 9 places. A movie can switch viewport too.

I will preload them all into buffers and I would like to play them randomly at the same time.

This means that there could be 9 equally sized areas showing small movieclips including sound and random times.

Like this:

[1][2][3]
[4][5][6]
[7][8][9]

So its 1 Flash canvas/player showing them all at the same time.

Is this possible or will it crash Flash to play 9 movies including their sound? The movies might be of different length and will have to be reset and played many times, but I cant prerender the result as its randomly generated from user input.

like in... an example code of where to start? I've been thinking that I could put all the parts into one "sprite movie" and the play from frame XYZ for each "window" - but not sure how or if it will work..

ActionScript 3.0 :: Prevent Simultaneous Execution Of Multiple Button Threads?

My AS 3 program has multiple buttons. Users can select one and then immediately select another and this causes 2 threads that collide.  Once one button is executing, I want the other buttons to ignore clicks.

The problems are twofold:  1)  the first time the 2nd button attempts to execute (by checking lock), when it returns (from checking lock) and attempts to pick up processing where it left off, it seems to forget where it was and does not utlimately complete its task(s); possibly variables have been altered, it is difficult to say.  That is, AS 3 is unable to successfully pickup where it left off on the first button. the second problem is that AS 3 incorrectly returns to button 2 after the lock condition is cleared.  It persists and will execute that button.

I'm currently using AMFPHP 1.9 to make a simple flash game which uses a game server.Sometimes, I get this error (BadVersion) when there are simultaneous calls to the server.I've searched the web for some of the answers to this problem, and it seems they were answered back in 2004.Is there an updated version of how to solve this problem?I tried to change the globals.php parameters to use absolute path, like performing the below:

AS3 :: Flash - Listening For Multiple Events On Multiple Objects?

I currently have an over, out and click event for 8 different objects. The over and out events are identical for each (tween expands object and then shrinks it back for the out state).I have previously asked for an easy way to declare those events, and now I was looking for an easier way to handle them.

Here's my code:

Flash :: Photoshop CS4 Open Simultaneous?

I am running Window 7 64 bit with 6 gb of RAM, two E5520 Xeons, two 10k raptors, one 320gb HD, and a ATI FirePro V5700. Brand New machine and a Fresh install of windows.
 
Everytime Photoshop CS4 is open it will cause Flash Cs4 to Crash. I can work in Flash without any issues until Photoshop is opened. Flash will usually crash in under 5 min with Photoshop open. I have tested this over and over and it is Photoshop causing Flash to crash. Does not matter whether I am running the 32 or 64 bit version of Photoshop. I am starting to believe it is a memory issue but I am not sure or how to fix if it is.I have tested the memory and it passed all tests. This is really killing my production time.

Im in the final steps of my Flash game, now I have to take care of the music/sound.And, I figure out that I'd need to reproduce several sounds simultaneously, sounds like gun shots, explosions, screams, etc, however, these sounds are short, < 1 seconds.So, how many sounds can I reproduce at the same time?, and what would be the best approach (what class to use, how, tips, etc) to achieve this?, considering my situation.

Currently my flash file will insert an object onto the stage when the user clicks onto the stage. each object will play and loop a sound (the user can select sounds and time before the sound loops for each object) but when I have many sounds playing at once, the sounds will suddenly stop and briefly come back before stopping again. Now I'm guessing there must be a maximum number for sounds simultaneously playing for a flash movie? If so, I'd like to know if there are any workarounds?At present, a sound playing about 2 times a second will be able to repeat roughly 30 times before it sound cuts out.

I added in functionality to stop a sound if it is attempting to trigger again in my play function to which I had a "cannot access a property or method of null object reference" output on the function and the sounds all started doing the same thing again. This happens the same as above, after 30 times playing 2 a second.Unless I've assessed the cause incorrectly, the only workarounds I can think of are to restrict the sound length and restrict the time before a sound loops - but this would ruin some of the aspects of what I wanted to create

I'm planning to add a page to my site that would have sample music from a variety of artists. There would be several sentances about the musician, then a free Flash mp3 player I'm using. I'm planning at least a dozen of these on the page. I didn't anticipate any problems, but a page where I had done something similar suddenly stopped working. Nothing I've tried will fix it. I don't want to go ahead until I find out if there are details I need to know about having multiple Flash objects on a page. Actionscript 3 :: Multiple (different) Objects From One Constructor In Flash?

I have to create a game in flash for school. I'm kind of stuck, however. I know an approach that might work, but I'm wondering if there isn't a way to do it all-in-one. Here goes.

I have a start screen with 4 buttons. These buttons all link to different levels, and they all have a different image. Let's call them btn1 btn2, .. btn4. I made a class called 'GameButton':

The other approach I see is to create four different button classes and link each of them to a different button, but then I'd have to create for files for something really simple, which seems like a lot of trouble for well.. just adding a button.

EDIT: I just realised this might be a stupid question. However, isn't there a way to like make a constructor for an empty button, then maybe add a symbol to it?

AS3 :: Flash - Stop Simultaneous Browser And SWF Mouse Wheel Scrolling?

Essentially, I have flash content that scrolls on mouse wheel. It works fine, unless there is other content in the browser such that the browser's scrollbar is enabled - when that is the case, both the browser window AND my SWF scroll on mouse wheel. Is there any way to correct this behavior?

But the solution does not work on all browsers! While it works on some Windows browsers, it doesn't work at all on Mac OS X - it registers mouse wheel events in Firefox, but they are not getting fired at all in Chrome and Safari.

Now I know that (per the official Adobe InteractiveObject docs) mouse wheel is supposedly only supported on Windows systems, but the event is still fired by default on Mac OS X. Is this simultaneous scroll bug the reason it is not supported?

Note that the above solution basically uses ExternalInterface to send the following JavaScript to the "eval" function:

I want to be able to drag any of the 4 objects onto any of the targets, right now all I can manage is to allow each object drop onto one specific target only.
 
I thought by calling all my target names by the same instance name eg target_mc that would work but only one target will ever work.

I'm working on a game right now where I'm going to have paths dynamically built by the user for multiple AI objects to "walk" along. I'll be detecting/redrawing the path only on user input but I'm still debating over the fastest possible method to update the movement of many AI objects "walking" along/up/down the given path. Think for example of pac man, but the level is dynamic. Right now I'm leaning toward building the enemies in a linked list of final classes and looping through the linked list calling a function in each of the AI objects to plot the next move along the path.

I'm trying to create a sort of tree diagram such that, if you click on one of the circles, its child circles spread outward with some degree of randomness from the original circle, connected by lines. I have this working, but now what I want to do is make sure that none of the circles collide with each other and none of the lines criss cross. You can see the screenshot for what is currently happening. My code is below. How do I change this code so that it checks for collisions and avoids them? I've read up on flash's hitTestObject command, but that only works in the context one object to another. I want to test for one object contacting any display object.

I am involved in project managment for a large video conferncing project involving over 100k simultanous connection and most likely to be increased 4 times by next six months.While figuring out the scalability area ,it was concluded that smart selection of hardware and origin-edge clustering will be suited most. Well while studying this documentation says it supports thousands of calls but unfortunately I could not determine the actual numbers. Can you tell me how many edge server will be needed for 100k simultanous calls/number of sessions per edge server and will we need license (4500$) for each edge server?

If you wanted to create a client-side Flash-based sound editor that lets you load more than 1 sound to an interface that allows you to manipulate the individual positions of the sounds, and mix/play them in real time, how would you accomplish this?

I'm looking to create a simple version that can mix 2 mp3s, allowing the user to adjust the positions of each. Sort of a dumbed down version of Aviary's Myna audio editor.

At the end of the mixing, I would also like our server to mix the 2 mp3 files with the proper positioning into 1 mp3 file...

What I'm trying to do is quite simple. Load an image externally, then display it (addChild it) multiple times, in different places, without loading it again and again. (Granted, caching means the image won't be downloaded multiple times, but I'd like to avoid those annoying disk accesses as well.) I know that flash doesn't actually support this. A while ago I was trying this same thing, I dug around for hours, and there was no real solution.

What I'm trying to do is get the total bytes of all the files I want to load and display the percentage loaded of total bytes and bytes loaded of all the files. Its a slideshow so i want all the files loaded and then it will play. I've looked at bulk-loader but it wasn't what I needed. The image are loaded from an xml file. I think I would need to create an Array and then find out the total bytes but I don't know how to reference the loader in the progress.
