Professional :: Create A Simple Floor Plan That Highlights Where The Computers Are On The Floor

Mar 31, 2011

I am trying to create a simple floor plan that highlights where the computers are on the floor.

1. Each computer has a name for e.g. Comp1, Comp2, Comp3 etc.

2. The computer names are in a list on the left hand side.

3. On the right hand side is the simple floor plan with computer images (or clipart)

This is what is expected:

1. As the mouse is mover over the item on the list, the computer associated with it must light up (or highlighted) For e.g. when the mouse is over Comp1 in the list then computer1 image (or clipart) on the floor plan must light up

2. When the mouse is over a computer on the floor plan, then the associated computer name in the list must light up For e.g. when the mouse is over computer2 image (or clipart), then Comp2 in the list must light up. I was trying to get some ideas from [URL]. I was able to make the image for a computer. It doesn't go far enough to tell me how to accomplish the above. Using Excel, I did this nearly five years back, by putting the clipart in specific cells and hyperlinking them. Now we want to make it available on the web.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Platform Game Fall To Ground Function?

Feb 16, 2010

I have gotten to a point with my platform game where I am completely stuck. I have the player movement working fine but the only thing is, it doesn't fall off the blocks.

I have a Floor class which references the Character class and tells it to stop jumping when it is on a block through a hitTestObject. I have tried to research how other games have added functions but can't seem to find one which will work in mine.

This is from the adobe live docs. I'm trying to figure out if there's a way to change it to suit what I've stated above. Or maybe it's done a completely different way...

Ranking Game That Captures User / Their Ranks / Date Into A Database

Jan 28, 2009

I'm using Flash CS3, AS2, PHP, mysql database with phpbb user registration. What I'm trying to do is a make a contest game where you have 5 different ladies and the users get to rank them in order from 1 to 5. Since it is a contest, users will need to be logged in. We already have a database of users based on phpbb, and a registration page. I need them to be able to log in using that username/pass and then they can play the game.

The game consists of a drag and drop mechanism (which I have) so the user can drag "#1" to "girl-4", drag "#2" to "girl-5" etc. Once they drag and drop all the boxes into the order they want, the user then submits it. The data I need to capture in the database is the User, date/time, their rank order (seperated so we can do a query to figure out how many they got right out of the 5.) The final twist is that we are going to have 9 total 'games', one each week for 9 weeks, and we only want users to be able to play once per week.

For an example you can see a working version here. That one does a bunch of more complicated stuff that I don't want to do. The programmer that did it is no longer here and it has been hard trying to decipher his code. I have the whole drag and drop mechanism using the old code from the above example. This is a snippit of the code. drag1_mc is the number they drag (there are 5, so drag1_mc, drag2_mc etc.) and drop1_mc is the rank location. (also 5, drop1_mc, drop2_mc, etc)

I have set up a dynamic text box called "message" that will display the message, but I am struggling to figure out the syntax for :

If gametime is less than 60 secs then message = "well done thats very quick"
If gametime is between 60 and 80 secs then message = "Not bad at all"
If gametime is between 81 and 100 secs then message = "Its good but not good enough"
If gametime is between 101 and 120 secs then message = "You can do better than that!"
If gametime is between 121 and 140 secs then message = "Too slow, you need to practice"
If gametime is greater than 140 then message = "Did you fall asleep?"

I'm trying to create a game where circles appear on the stage and when the user clicks on one it disappears and their score is updated. The circles appear for a short time then dissapear. If they dissapear before the user clicks the user looses points. The game is to last 20 seconds then the user will be shown their score and a little thanks for player message. This is what I have so far:

stop();
addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, playGame);
function playGame(Event):void    {

Now what I'm having trouble with is all the timing. I need a way to turn the visibility off the circles after a few seconds of being created and I also need to set the duration of the game for 20 seconds.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Store A Simple Cookie That Will Remember The Score For The Next Time The User Plays The Game?

May 6, 2007

I'm just trying to store a simple cookie that will remember the score for the next time the user plays the game (the score governs if an option is visible or not)It all works fine until I close browser/reload the page, at which point the shared object seems to disappear, any clues?

Write:

Code:
var rem_score:SharedObject = SharedObject.getLocal("score");
rem_score.data.score = new Number(score);
rem_score.flush();

The problem prolly lies in my write code but ill post the reading aswell just incase there is a problem with that too

Code:
var rem_score:SharedObject = SharedObject.getLocal("score");
if (rem_score.data.score != undefined) {
this.remdscore = rem_score.data.score;
if (rem_score.data.score >=30) {

[code]...

There is another point it is read but it is the same sort of thing as the above.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Follow Mouse Until Touching

Jun 19, 2010

I have a graphic replacing the mouse cursor and I'm having it so that when the user goes over a MC (called hitSquare in this case) the cursor graphic moves to a certain location on the stage, then returns to the location of the real mouse position.[code]The problem with this is that during the 0.5 seconds that it takes the graphic to return to the mouse position, the user can still move the mouse, so it actually goes to different co-ordinates and when the user moves the mouse after the 0.5 is over, the cursor just jumps to the new location.How can I make it so that the graphic smoothly follows the mouse, (even if it's being moved and has to update in real time) and then returns to the standard mouse follow code (cursorMC.x = mouseX; etc) once it's met its final destination?I take it this requires some "mouse trail" code that gets removed once it's caught up with the mouse.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Math.floor Vs Bit Shifting Vs Int

Aug 17, 2009

I just ran some tests on round numbers.In preparation for getting max performance from AS3, I want to test as many areas as possible.All I did was generate a rounded random number a million times per frame, and record the time step in milliseconds.[code]Now the strangest part is having a non rounded random number generated a million times per frame netted an average time of 195 milliseconds, faster than using int as a random number. It must simply be that because Math.random isn't returning an integer, some form of conversion of taking place for your variable to be an integer.

Incidentally, using a Number instead of integer for the looping variable decreased performance minimally, just a few milliseconds.So simply having your variable as an integer, and using no rounding at all produces the fastest results if you want a round number.Remember though, there are many other areas in Flash to dramatically increase performance. Being that we're talking about a million iterations per frame, the difference in performance is not exactly dramatic here. One is not even twice as fast as another, over a million iterations.
