View 1 RepliesI am developing a non-real time browser RPG game (think Kingdom of Loathing) which would be played from within a Flash app. At first I just wanted to make the communication with server using simply URLLoader to tell PHP what I am doing, and using $_SESSION to store data needed in-between request. I wonder if it wouldn't be better to base it on a socket connection, an app residing on a server written in Java or Python.
The problem is I have never ever written such an app so I have no idea how much I'd have to "shift" my thoughts from simple responding do request (like PHP) to continuously working application. I won't hide I am also concerned about the memory and CPU usage of such Server app, when for example there would be hundreds of users connected. I've done some research. So, considering the fact I don't need real time data exchange, will it be wise to develop the server side part as socket server, not in plain ol' PHP?
I have a swf file with 5 buttons each button goes to a different url, so lets say i have 5 buttons, button 1 goes to preloader1 button 2 goes to preloader2 and so on.the problem is if i click on button 1 and open preloader1, then click on button 2 it opens preloader2 in the same window as preloader1, how would i do it so it opens a different window,here is the as3 code

If you open the site, and try to open it a second time in another window, it won't load. You can't open the site again until the first window is closed. How did they implement this?
From my analysis it is NOT:
1. Cookies - The block still takes place if you try opening it in IE and also try opening it in Firefox simultaneously.
2. Flash Cookies - The block still takes place if I disable flash cookies.
3. IP Based Block - You are not blocked if you open the site on two separate computers with the same outbound IP address. From my analysis, their server does not assist in the block at all.
It seems as if their .swf is creating some kind of global system-wide object that can be detected in other instances of the application on the same machine. How did they implement this?

View 3 RepliesI play games on Pogo and have never had a problem with their Flash Games until released Daily Hot Shots. It doesn't load fully and I've done EVERYTHING I know to do to get it to play. No errors show up. I can play ALL the other flash games but this one. When I right click, the name of the site's owners do not show up....I have the settings showing though Not all of the game loads and that's the problem. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling....tried a different browser and have the same exact problem. THIS GAME WILL NOT PLAY.

Do I need to find a vista box?houldn't these flash exe files be XP compatible? Scenario: A page has five different instances of the flash player. The user is litening to one song but clicks on another to listen to it.Goal: The first audio file automatically stops while the second starts playing instead of both playing at the same time.
Do I need to have some sort of javascript handler than interacts with the swf or something?

View 1 Replies I have a PHP mailer form on my site which needs to be published in action script2 to work, but I also have a script set up to open browser windows of a certain size & location which needs actionscript 1 to work? The PHP mailer form has a "Name" field, "Email" field & "Message" field, theses can all be reset with a button. The button clears off any text in the 3 boxes to wipe them clean. The script on the reset button is:

I'm just trying to store a simple cookie that will remember the score for the next time the user plays the game (the score governs if an option is visible or not)It all works fine until I close browser/reload the page, at which point the shared object seems to disappear, any clues?

I have noticed that mi screensaver doesn't start while I'm watching videos on YouTube.I'm using Windows 7.This is the test:Set Windows screensaver to 1 minute.Browse to YouTube and play a video longer than 1 minute; ideally much longer.Note that your screensaver doesn't come up after the specified time (1 minute).I've tested using Firefox, Chrome and IE8. My Flash Player version is 10.3. (Youtube is using flash to play the videos). The same happens whether I watch the video in full-screen or not.

As soon as the player hit the button "submit" the time has to start to count. As the player reached his maximum turns the game goed to the next frame and the timer should top. The game starts over (from frame2) so the timer has to begin over again.

Now I have two questions about this:
Which Flash video player is free to use and capable of doing this? How should I let the user choose a video file, and how can I link the Flash video player to the file?
I work in the art department of a documentary series and I have a Dell Iinspiron 3200 running Windows 98 (with Flashplayer 9) that I need to use to run animations that I made on a seperate machine running CS5. How should I publish them so that they can be played on the laptop? When I bring the files over, they are recognized as flash applications (the icon is right) but trying to play them results in two errors: "(directory) file expects a newer version of windows. Upgrade your Windows version" and "(directory) a device attached to the system is not functioning" I have tried publishing as version 9, but the fies still won't run, and examining the properties of them reveals a file version of 10.1.

View 3 RepliesWhen using the Pencil Tool in Flash CS4 the line does not appear until after I've released the left mouse button or Wacom Pen nib. In other words you can write on a blank page the letter A but it only becomes visible after releasing the mouse button. It's invisible inkThe same problem occurs on my other machine with the only difference being an Intuos compared with Intuos 4 tablet - however it has same problem with a USB mouse, so it doest appear to be a Wacom issue.I've found a (kindof) fix.Open the Wacom Tablet properties panel either from the Start Menu or Control Menu - leave it open while using the Pencil Tool in Flash CS4 and it all works fine!I would be interested to know if anyone else has the same issue - might only be relevent to Windows 7 - 64 bit (i've not tested 32 bit). I'm working on a project that I want to export as a .avi file. I'm using Flash 8. I can go through the steps of exporting the movie fine, but once I try to play it in Windows Media Player, I get this error:
"Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file."
I've tried playing it in VLC and DIVX player as well I got similar error messages. This is a time sensative project,
So i've made my .swf files. The only thing is they all play at full screen when i play them using my web browser. I need them to play at 548 x 408. when i open the .fla and go to properties it says the size IS at 548 x 410 but it can't be if its playing full screen.
View 2 RepliesI have multiplayer flash game (AS3) and I would like to prevent multiboxing, e.g. prevent user running two (or more) instances of my game at one computer. Is there simple and reliable way how to do that? I don't want to filter them based on IP address.
I tried to use LocalConnection, but it was unreliable. It worked most of the time but for some reason it failed sometimes.
Then I tried to use SharedObject to write random value to it and than check for change in periodic interval. Idea is that when second instance starts, it will overwrite previous value and check in first instance will fail.
