I've been putting data into an array via XML, and then selecting at random an image string to load in a pic at random. But whilst doing this, I wanted to remove the String from the Array that I have just used, so I don't get repetition of the same image in the output. I initially thought that pop would remove the string I had just used - But of course it Removes the last value in the Array instead, which doesn't really help.
Ok - so how about randomizing the data once inside the Array, after it has been pulled in from XML!? That way I can load in the 'last' image, and then pop it out! Keeping a randomized selection of images each time 'it' is loaded

I did purchase a component from flashden (randombgholder) which does exactly what i want, but it seems to clash with the flashloaded fCMS system i have working in place, and somehow knocks it out, but that could be my bad amateur flash coding causing it. And when i go to center the swf over the background using his code he provided it goes haywire. perhaps i could do a random fullscreen background image on page refresh in html?? i tried some css ones, but nothing works probably because i'm very new to flash and the likes.

I'm trying to avoid useing a button to send the number from A to B, and instead am trying to use an event listener that sends the number when A loads background.jpg; but the number never gets sent (I start with B open already, and then open A). I've gotten this to work with an onRelease event for a button , so i know the LocalConnection coding works, but as I said I want to avoid using a button to send the number. I'm sure it's right in front of me but i've got no clue why it isn't working, so I defer to wiser minds.
I've got some lovely code from another flash forum which loads a scalable fullscreen image background behind a fixed size flash movie, but have a problem:The jpg background image loads before the flash movie, and I'd like to delay the jpg appearing by, say, three seconds.I've tried everything I can in the code, but don't know enough about actionscript to make it work.
I have this to load a random image from my array. But how can I keep track so that a new random pic wont be the same as one allready shown, until all pics in the array has been shown once?
I'm looking to help a friend with his site and basically, I need a good tutorial on how I could create a character with a voice bubble that, when you click on a button, displays a random quote. Also, I know this might not be the right forum to ask this in, but would this be easier to do in Dreamweaver if I just place the item of the character and have it load up a random voice bubble image? If so, are there any good tutorials for that?
Based on the kirupa xml gallery I am loading a random image opposed to starting with the first image in the xml file. It works fine, but I have not been able to figure out how to get the accompanying caption to load with the specific image.

I'm making a flash movie and I'd like to load a background image into my SWF and paint it to the stage using the Bitmap and BitmapData classes. Am I approaching this properly? What code gets the image from the Loader to the BitmapData? Also, how do I get the image to show in the background? I've never understood the BitmapData/Bitmap metaphor, explanations, code samples and tutorial links.

I have come quite a long way and i have made a site in flash but i just have a question.I have been using an image as my background and i am happy with the way flash automatically scales all the objects in my file but the background image does not scale. Is there a way to do this? I have found out things online which show me how to add auto-resizing to the background but this knocks off the flash auto scaling/resizing for everything else.
I want a movieclip consisting of a dynamic text box that, from the time it's loaded onto the stage, loads a randomly selected text string from an array, and continues to loop until the clip is removed from the stage. I have succesfully gotten the "loading a random background" to work. But now I want to try a couple of other things with it.I would like to adjust the size and alpha, which it isn't happening. And I would also like to repeat the the image (which was generated randomly) 4 other times on the page.So far I have place the random image and mask within a movie, and then placed it on the main timeline.That works great, then I am sliding same image from behind the first image to create a total of 5 images on my documento get the other 4 images on the main document have repeated the movie that holds the random image code, but nothing is showing up in the other 4 instances

What I want is something kind of like this:However, I don't want it to respond to the mouse at all. I just want random sized circles, on different layers, and different alpha values, floating around on their own.I could do in the timeline, with symbols and motion paths, but it wouldn't really be random at all.
