View 14 RepliesI have a movieclip (named "checklist")with a great number of input text boxes in it. This clip is used early in the my movie (frame 1) and again at frames 20 and 30. The problem is that in the later frames the information the user typed in the first frame is no longer there. Now I could use the var parameter and set it to _root for all of the boxes, but I've been told that the var parameter is a bad way to go. Rather, I should use the name option instead, i.e. "myText_txt". I tried experimenting with objects, but I am not a programmer and so I am probably doing this wrong.

So, I am looking for a best practice. Should I just use the var parameter? That way all of the text fields update when the movie hits frames 20 and 30.
I am trying to load html into a text box from a website. when i load to the text box, everything goes fine except that it is loaded as something that looks like this:

I'm making a VERY basic Jeopardy game, and I need buttons to be disabled after being clicked on once.
Oh, and I'm working in CS3, but I'm using AS 1&2 because that's what I learned... I have no idea how to use AS 3...
example: frame 1 has btn11 in it. btn11 when clicked takes the person to frame 2. when done with frame 2, they click on return.
the return button (btnReturn1) has the following AS

the problem is that it works at first - the button disables when I get back to frame 1, but the next time I click a different button then return to frame 1, the first button I disabled isn't disabled anymore.
my actionscript so that my disabled buttons stay that way no matter how many times I come and go from the frame? or if you have a better way to do it, that'd be great. basically, it's like the jeopardy screen, and after "songs" for 200 is clicked, I don't want it to be clickable again at all.
I need to have an outline for the text typed in my input text boxes. How do I achieve this?

The trainings were good but what surpried me that even though the videos are Flash based, they are not stored in the browser's cachewhich also uses Flash for videos, where the videos are stored temporarily in the browser's cache, this was not in this case. The following is the link for one of the video training which I played on my computer but I was unable to find any trace of it on my local hard-drive:I guess, if the videos are played, then there must be some temporary storage allocated in the hard drive. is in the constructor, the user must tab or click the inputbox to obtain focus.

Maybe someone knows what's up. I've got an input textbox and a dynamic textbox, and I've got a key listener so that whenever you type in the input appears in the output. I've embedded numbers and cap letters in both. This works locally, but when I put it live, you can't type anything into it?If you paste any content into it, it works fine, but, typing it doesn't. The weird part is it works when previewed in flash but not on a server.If you check the 'Custom plate' at the bottom of the 2nd column of options, it sets focus to the input box, and there the trouble happens.I'm thinking it's something with the key listener? I'll try to put the code here for your scrutiny. Weird that it's putting in a space in 'function' of the onrelease, that's not how it is, but also I don't think that part is the problem, but just something with the forum here.[code]

When the user clicks on a tab, while the data is being loaded this error is shown. TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference. I want to disable all the tabs while the xml file is being loaded.

View 1 RepliesRight now I'm us Flash CS4 and creating a flash program in AS3. After a certain frame the dynamic text boxes that I have set up refuse to display text when required. I've gone over every line of code and every possible set up and I can't understand why it will not work. I've made sure all the dynamic text boxes have the instance names properly in place naming them all "talkBox". I've made sure all the code is written properly talkBox.text = "Insert Text Here!" There should be absolutely no reason in the world why the dynamic text boxes shouldn't be working.

I have one total box as a dynamic, with the name totalbox. If i wanted to have the total box display the sum of all numbers from the input boxes, how would one go about this. I've seem formulas around, just not sure how to get the numbers to actually show up in the dynamic total box.

View 4 RepliesI have 3 input text boxes and I want to display a different part of an XML file to display (in a different textbox) depending on what input textbox has been selected.
I have achieved this by using 3 separate functions and it works fine but I want to use a switch statement within one function to achieve the same result. So the user will click on a textbox which calls the function and switches depending on the textbox to load the text from an XML file.
I don't know if using a switch statment in this way is even possible to do.

First project using flash and im having some problems with a combobox function im trying to apply. I have a combobox that I hope when selected populates an input text box on another frame. When I test when the input text box is on the same frame the code below works and the selection is shown, but i want to show the input text field on another frame and this doesnt work.

I am setting a string variable to the value of a input box in my movie but Flash also seems to be adding a (Carrage Return) to the end of it's value. This is not something i am typing. Is this normal or am i doing something wrong, i can't seem to find where it is coming from. If this is normal, what is the best way to prevent this from happening as it is causing me problems when i use this variable later.
