I have an external swf called "home". On the "home" stage is a button, and when this button is clicked, im wanting it to play a movieclip on the Flash document the container resides in (index.swf).
The movieclip has an instance of "background".
I have a symbol of text with instance name "test_" on the main timeline and some graphics that are loaded programmatically. When the graphics are loaded onto the stage, it covers up the "test_" so that only part of it is visible. How do I change the depth of the "test_" symbol so that it is on top of all the graphics on the stage?
I tried this setChildIndex(test_,numChildren-1); however numChildren is equal to one so apparently it is already on top of its container. I need "test_" to be above all graphics that were loaded onto the stage instead.
I am trying to change the visible index of a Scroller container on an event. The Scroller contains an HGroup with Images, so on an event I want to change which of the Images is visible in the Scroller by specifying an HGroup index. Is this possible?

How can I have a video (or youtube video) play on loading my website with the option to "skip". If the skip video is clicked then that will redirect to the index.html however how can I set it up so that when the Video finishes playing it automatically loads the index.html in the website.
(If the video has to be embedded in the index.html so that the rest of the website is elsewhere that's fine too).
I have a form that pops up in flex, it is a movieclip contained within a UIComponent. Within this movieclip are form fields.
For some reason I can't get the tab button working to be able to tab between the fields. I set up each field with a tabindex, but that doesn't work.
Is there anything else I need to do besides this? This is basically all the code I am using:
email.tabIndex = 1;
city.tabIndex = 2;
firstName.tabIndex = 3;
etc.
Is this not working because of flex? And if so, what is a workaround?
I have 2 flash files, one with an intro and the second that just has a document class file that plays out a snake game. How could i import that document flash file and make it play out on like frame 100 off my other flash file.

sendStream.peerStreams[0].send("MyFunction",param1,param2);
and I have to determine which peer I'm sending to by their ID such as "peerID1234"
I know that you can check the peerID of the stream by doing:
sendStream.peerStreams[0]["farID"]
how can I make my send stream function know to use the array index where the peerID is?
so basically it could be like:
sendStream.peerStreams[where peerStreams[]["farID"] == peerID].send("MyFunction",param1,param2);
Using MovieClipLoader, is it possible for the loaded swfs to access movie clips in the container swf movie? In building a preloader for a previously produced flash app (originally made for CD), I was running across huge problems with some dynamically created masks (created using attachMovie and setMask). My solution (not ideal, I guess) was to move the masks and the masked objects into the preloader ("container") movie. But still need to move them around by code located inside the swf being loaded.
Relevant code from inside the preloader:

How to set the flashvars in this case (using ActionScript 3)? So how to embed Flash in another flash and set same variables as it was embedded in html by passing querystring or flashvars.

If multiple childs exist with the same depth, the bottom one is updated.

getting a rotating banner I downloaded to actually work on my home page. So I'm using FrontPage 2003. I've got my index page open and I select Insert, Picture, Movie in Flash Format. I browse through my subfolder and select the swf file. But it will not play!However, when I follow the exact same steps, but on a page that is located within the subfolder where all the files are located, the video plays just fine. So I know it probably has something to do with my file path, but I just can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. My files are located like this:

(There is the deploy folder which has two subfolders in it - banner and js.)

I've tried copying and pasting all of the files so they're in the root folder, and then embedding the swf, and it still doesn't work.I've tried editing the banner.xml page and telling all the folder paths to start from the root folder, and that hasn't worked either.
On the stage I have a movieclip (Container, originally 200px width) and inside it with a progressbar movieclip (originally 700px width), scaled with Free Transform Tool to fit the parent container. The width of the container changes run-time while resizing the scene.
In ActionScript I have a function which should set the progress bar width according to a calculated percentage value:

My problem is that the progressBar even at full time (100%) is only at 1/4 of the parent container. I assume that it comes from the symbols original size.
Can I correct this programatically, or I must redesign it with the "designer"?
I have 2 container MovieClips (mc1, mc2), each of them has a separate x,y, rotation. I want to take a child from mc1 and addChild() it to mc2 while keeping the same x, y, and rotation on the screen so you see the added child mc as if it didnt change position or rotation, just moved to the other MC.

Now, when the button triggers an onRollOver, I need to be able to move the clip which the button resides in. I have a "box_mc" movieclip on the root of my stage and I need to select it from within my Document Class. I thought Stage.getChildByName("box_mc") would work, but it just returns null.
View 2 RepliesLet's say I have a FLA file with document class called main. In main, let's say I have a method called test1 that just outputs "hello world" via trace. On the FLA I have a movie clip. In that movie clip, when the timeline reaches frame 123, I want it to invoke the test1 method (I just set up a simple action on the frame). However, I get an error saying that the method is undefined. I try this.parent.test1() too but that gives me the same error. Is it not possible to invoke a document class property from within the timeline of a movie clip that's on the stage?
View 2 RepliesI have created a game in flash, and due to the nature of the game, I have many movieclips placed on the stage manually in Flash CS4. They are not programmatically added as children to the stage, and so I am having difficulty getting access to them in the document class. So far the only method I have been able to use is to do stage.addChild(active_area); (for example), but there are many movie clips, all very differently named, so this method seems incorrect.I've discovered that my MovieClips are not children of the stage, but in fact MainTimeline, as when I for loop through stage.getChildAt(i);, only one child, root1, is traced out. How can I access movieclips that were placed on the stage in the timeline from the document class, without having to manually add them as children to the stage? So it looks like my problem wasn't that I couldn't access the MovieClips, it was that I wasn't modifying the MovieClips' values, so I wasn't registering any change in them.

It's a presentation that needs to play thru but still have the ability to stop, click on items, open a popup and then continue on in the presentation. I am building all the individual "chapters" and their "sub-chapters" as swf files, with the hope that I can load them in order. I am relatively new to AS3.

I will be choosing which mask to use based on users selection of puzzle piece.When I try to use traingular mask by adding puzzle.gotoAndStop(2) the swf just flickers. The thing is: I have got 5 movieclips which are able to drag and drop. Next to that I've got 20 containers which are all droptargets. The movieclips are able to be dragged and then dropped on a container. So far so good. But what I want is that when I drop a movieclip on a container which already has a movieclip dropped on it, the first movieclip gets removed and the second movieclip is dropped on the container. Or you could also say.. that the second movieclip replaces the first movieclip. This instead of the fact that a container has multiple movieclips dropped on itself.
