Not necessary a timeline but rather a time code.My intention is to animate and integrate a 3D city (into Flash or Director) that is deteriorating/declining over time.I just might fake it in the end. i.e.Scrolling 24 hrs Days Weeks Months

ActionScript 3.0 :: Most Efficient Way To Program Simple Game?

Nov 26, 2010

I am developing a Jeopardy-like game in Flash CS5. I am familiar with Flash CS5, but new to AS3. I don't know the language well, and to top it off my code hints don't work in Flash CS5. After researching this I've learned it is a bug that Adobe has yet to resolve. Anyway I am trying to program this game with very little knowledge about the language I am using. I've been watching tutorials and googling specific questions, but it comes down to the fact that I don't speak the language and don't have the resource (code hints) to make the language more available to me.What I am trying to do is simple:Imagine a Jeopardy game board.On the answer screen there is a button that takes you back to the gameboard. Here's the catch: the gameboard must remember which boxes have been chosen and not display those dollar values.

I understand how to program the buttons. I've been using gotoandstop for that. I am trying to figure out the best way to program this so the game remembers which boxes have already been chosen throughout the entire game.The specific question I have at the moment is how to reference an instance on another frame than the frame that has the code on it. For example: The gameboard is on frame 5. When the category A for $200 box (buttonA1) is clicked a Boolean var called 'chosen' is created and assigned the value of true. then the gotoandStop command moves the game to frame 10 which is where the question for category A for $200 lives. There is a button on frame 10 that takes you to the answer, which is on frame 11. And on frame 11, when you click on the button to take you back to the gameboard, I want it so that if chosen = true then buttonA1.visible = false. I get an error because buttonA1 doesn't exist on frame 11 - it lives on frame 5 and I have no idea how to reference it so that it will not be visible.

I need to insert a Flash movie in a Visual Basic 2008 express form and send parameters to the movie, but am a newbie to VB. So I inserted the webbrowser control, which I understand can be used to a similar purpose. But how would I send the values of X and Y (coordinates to plot in Flash) to the flash swf?

Actionscript 3 :: System Time Determine Animation Speed / Not Program FPS

Mar 26, 2010

I'm writing a card game in ActionScript 3. Each card is represented by an instance of a class extending movieclip exported from Flash CS4 that contains the card graphics and a flip animation. When I want to flip a card I call gotoAndPlay on this movieclip.When the frame rate slows down all animations take longer to finish. It seems Flash will by default animate movieclips in a way that makes sure all frames in the clip will be drawn. Therefor, when the program frame rate goes below the frame rate of the clip, the animation will be played at a slower pace.I would like to have an animation always play at the same speed and as a consequence always be shown on the screen for the same amount of time. If the frame rate is too slow to show all frames, frames are dropped. Is is possible to tell Flash to animate in this way?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Bug With Numbers And Moving A Simple MC Over Time?

May 23, 2011

This has been destroying my noggin for hours now. I have an MC within an MC that I want to move from left to right, starting at 6.5x and needing to end at its width +6.5c (so 494.5x every time). Depending on the TOTALSECONDS I put in, it changes every time. It is always off, never perfect, and it is boggling my mind. Here is my code.

Code:

TOTALSECONDS = 90; // you can make this any number
var pMove = (progressBar.blackBar.width + 6.5) / (TOTALSECONDS) /8;
progBarMovement = Math.round(pMove*1000)/1000;

[Code]....

progresBar.blackBar.width is equal to 488. Add 6.5 to it, and we have 494.5. Regardless of how many TOTALSECONDS I use, this bar needs to move across the screen from left to right perfectly until it reaches 494.5, which should equal the "total" found in the code. It works for some numbers, doesn't for others. It is like numbers are being lost in transit. If I set the TOTALSECONDS to 10, it works perfectly. If I set the TOTALSECONDS to 90, it ends up at 476x rather than 495x where it needs to be. The longer the time, the worse it gets.

This should work flawlessly each and every time. This could not get any simpler, yet it is not working. Simple simple math and yet it doesn't want to work. I have to be missing something. Maybe the .x coords can't move on certain decimal digits, so those are being lost?

I thought possibly converting the 'elapsed_time' into a different var (t1,t2 etc..) for each of the games? - doesn't seem to work timer_not_saving.fla

I would like to come up with a good solution on how to accomplish this with out having to send a call to a serve side object every few seconds. I could store the data in an as3 object and pass it when the user finishes a scene or exits out of a scene. However this would not work when a user just closes the browser. Maybe I could tie in some JavaScript.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Store A Simple Cookie That Will Remember The Score For The Next Time The User Plays The Game?

May 6, 2007

I'm just trying to store a simple cookie that will remember the score for the next time the user plays the game (the score governs if an option is visible or not)It all works fine until I close browser/reload the page, at which point the shared object seems to disappear, any clues?

Write:

Code:
var rem_score:SharedObject = SharedObject.getLocal("score");
rem_score.data.score = new Number(score);
rem_score.flush();

The problem prolly lies in my write code but ill post the reading aswell just incase there is a problem with that too

Code:
var rem_score:SharedObject = SharedObject.getLocal("score");
if (rem_score.data.score != undefined) {
this.remdscore = rem_score.data.score;
if (rem_score.data.score >=30) {

[code]...

There is another point it is read but it is the same sort of thing as the above.

Flash8 : Run A Flash Program From Another Flash Program?

Jan 29, 2010

I have created a flash program and I would like to run a second flash program from inside the first. To explain, say I am running a program that draws a circle and fills it with a color. Then, I have designed a second program that will divide a circle into sectors by entering percentages, to turn that circle into a pie chart. Is there a way to be running the "draw a circle" program and have a button that opens the "divide the circle into sectors" program in a new window and then passes information from that program to the first program. I am sure I will have to send the information from the second program to an XML file and then have the first program recieve it from the XML file (which I can do), but I don't know if I can run the second program from inside the first program.

Professional :: Simple Sound Player - Visitor To Hear The Sound And Be Able To Apply Simple Controls?

Aug 1, 2011

Flash is not in my toolset, but I am an old Director jock and have spent some hours dipping my head into the Flash manual.  I suppose that makes me a promising beginner-level poster. I'm working in CS5.

I need to make a simple Flash-based sound player for a website for a newly-released novel (http://www.bearriverbooks.com/index.html).  I want the user to click on what appears to be an icon (or image), which kicks open a simple controller and starts playing a sound file (a radio interview, which I will probably export using Flash's voice compression).  Nothing fancy.  Just want the visitor to hear the sound and be able to apply simple controls (stop/start/rewind/volume).

I can learn ActionScript, I suppose, since I used to dream in Lingo, but my life would be a lot simpler if I could just publish a controller without having to roll my own.  I'd like to think there's a magic button somewhere that can do this, but I haven't found it yet.
