ActionScript 2.0 :: Properties In A User Created Class?
Sep 16, 2005
If I create a class and set up one property which is a variable initiated at the start of the class but not within a function or a constructor and I reference the property from the .fla in a for loop as:Book is the class and myBook is the new object.
myBook:Book = new Book(); // (fla script).
for(var prop in myBook) {
trace(prop);
}
[code]...
The trace does not return anything. However when I include myProp (the class variable) in a function (other than Book function) and call that function from the .fla then the trace works and I can see myProp. Do I need to include Class variables in called functions (methods of the Class) in order for them to be properties of the Class?
I am having trouble trying to retrieve properties for a container_mc that dynamically creates content upon loading. The container_mc is creating text boxes from an array and so its _height is dependant on the array.length.
well like the title says, ho can i set the properties of a mc's created with createEmptyMovieClip , getting a real nag , have tried all kind of things , for loops , etc.
for (i=0; i<=10; i++) { this.createEmptyMovieClip(["rondje"+i], i); lineStyle(1, Black, 100);

I'm creating/adding elements in my item renderer but from some reason you cant access their specific properties, you can only change the general properties. I created a LABEL component but when i do LabelName.font , nothing happens, its like flex doesn't recognize that this is a LABEL. [code]...
I am trying to use the duplicateMovieClip event to create a row of custom movie clips dynamically and I would like to be able to set the _alpha properties on each object depending on an event i am firing in a different movie.[code]...
I need to dynamically bind properties of components created at runtime. In this particular case please assume I need to use bindProperty. I don't quite understand why the following simplistic test is failing (see code). When I click the button, the label text does not change.
I realize that there are simpler ways to go about this particular example using traditional non-dynamic binding, but I need to understand it in terms of using bindProperty.
I created a movie clip symbol with a user interface in it, using the standard components. It contains various components that I draged on the stage. I named the instances (e.g titleLabel). Then I created an ActionScript class for that user interface. Under the linkage properties of the symbol I specified that class. In the class itself, i declared the attribute "var titleLabel:Label". I thought this would be the same instance from the symbol? But: Trying to set the text of the Label AFTER the movie was dynamically added to the parent does not work. I cannot access any properties.
Here is the example:
My Class for the user interface:
Code: import mx.controls.*; class Information extends MovieClip { var titleLabel:Label; //this is the same instance name as in the symbol
I'm creating a library of UI elements, and I want the graphics to be custom. At first, I was going to draw everything with code, and take properties such as "background-base-color", "background-gradient-color", etc. I was concerned that the user would need to modify too many properties and might get confused. I eventually talked myself into using external graphics, such as button_top_left_over.png and etc. Now I'm back and forth. I want people to easily be able to change the skin, so my options are, have them create external graphic libraries, or have them update properties in a front end that would write to XML, such as background-base-color, background-base-highlight,etc.
This seems like it should be MUCH simpler than it is turning out to be: I have made a custom template in Flash CS4. I want to share it with a colleague. The obvious solution, I would think, would be to COPY the template file from my hard drive, and provide it to my colleague.
However, I have looked high and low, and CANNOT FIND WHERE USER TEMPLATES ARE STORED on my hard drive. I have found the Adobe-provided templates that are included with the product (the "Advertising" templates) at Program Files>Adobe>Adobe Flash CS4>en>Configuration>Templates>Advertising; but MY CUSTOM TEMPLATES are not in the Templates directory.
I have also looked in My Documents, and run several searches on my hard drive, but still cannot find the location of my custom templates. Surely they are SOMEPLACE on my hard drive, as they are available from the Splash page every time I boot up Flash CS4.
I have a class, call it MyClass, and there are several variables that I need to be able to access each instance of from within the class.So for instance, I need the object myObject1, a member of MyClass, to store the variable myNumber.From the main timeline, if I trace myObject1.myNumber, I get whatever number I've stored.
However, I need to check the numbers against another parameter, so I need to be able to test if myObject.myNumber == myOtherNumber. But from within the class, if I trace this.myNumber or myNumber I get null.What is the proper syntax for accessing a variable within a class?
I have an mc called sunny. In the properties panel I export her for actionscript. I put Sunny in the main class and Drag in the base class. The reason for this is that I want her to be draggable. I can't use Drag in the main class as another object is using that name. The Drag.as has the drag functionality. Why can't I drag her. I already have a solution - I wrote a specific class for her and extended the Drag class. However, if I have 10 mcs I'm not going to write specific classes for all of them. Summing up: Using the base class Drag in properties panel - why isn't she draggable?
I'm pretty new to fully using class's for my programming (in-frame scripting satisfied me for a while). I am having a problem accessing the properties of a class from another class. The first class (I'll call it controller) receives a reference to an object of another class (I'll call it display). Display have several specialized subclass (I'll call one SequencedDisplay). SequencedDisplay has a timer in it that I need to access:
This seems like someting I should already know but I am working on a user interface that I want to be skinable. I have about 8 different graphical elements and I want to change the appearance of these 8 different movieClips just by clicking a single button. I thought I would just create a new keyframe in my main time line and then manipulate the movieClips but that changed the appearance of the movie clip on frame 1 as well. Clarification: I want to change the color of my user interface background and I want to change the color of some clickable images as well. I want frame 1 to have a white background and I want frame 2 to have a red background. Do I need to create more movie clips and drag them onto my stage or can I just use the existing movieClips since all I really want to do is change colors?
I am using flash mx 2004 and i have made a scene 10 by 10 pixels with 100 * 1 pixel by 1 pixel square movie clips (MC name: pixel) placed next to each other, understand? I hope so .Basically i would like them to change colour etc when a user presses enter.under properties there is a bit called Color then there is a drop down box and in here there is a bit called advanced.If you fiddle around with these setting you can alter the color, brightness, etc of an MC.Can actionscript alter these so when a user presses enter each induvidual pixels properties changes to something random?
I have created an activity in which the user is invited to click on some buttons. There are approx 60 buttons to choose from with 7 of them being the correct ones. If the user clicks on 1 of the incorrect 53 buttons i want a hint pop up to appear to steer them in the right direction. Is there a efficient way of doing this without having to create a function and apply it to all the incorrect buttons? Perhaps an event listener? (AS2).
I am trying to compare a user inputted string to a variable already created. When I do this with int it works fine but when I try changing it to strings I can't get it to work.
If you don't add an asset (text field, mc, btn etc) to the stage / create the object dynamically, is it possible for the asset to move x,y position or alter it's properties depending on the user environment? If so, what environments can cause this? IE what browsers, op. systems, player versions etc?
I can't set a picture as a user-created page wallpaper and i also cant "like" this same page using a Facebook Desktop Graph API request.how to use the Facebook Graph API for AS3 to change the wallpaper on a user created page and also set the "like" status for that page of a user? Is this even possible?
I have a problem with a dynamic video player that I have created in flash. The video player is "SCORM" compliant so that when the user clicks the "exit" button a class file is called to mark the user complete in an LMS.I have tested the SCORM Code previously and it works with out issue. Usually I have the completion code embedded in an Actions Layer of the movie. This is the first time I have attempted to call the completion status in a class file, I have added a "trace statement" when the movie is tested within flash it runs the trace statement properly, but when uploaded to the LMS environment the course does not complete properly
on my stage i have 24 instance MC Page created at runtime (when cliked the button execute 24 instance MC Page from the library). Each of those MC Page create an xml with infos (not important), this variable_XML created is nested inside each MC Page.. From my stage i want to call each XML from each MC Page for make 1 unic big xml, then send it to the server.
So from the main stage i created a button that call each xml of each MC Page (there is a definit number of Page only 24, no more, no less). So when the 24 instances of the MC Page are created I push there instance name inside an Array "Page_Array". Now in my function exportxml i use get ChildByName(Page_array[number]) for find them then i can apply my method to the according MCPage.. Until here no problem, trace(dispObject.name) work. but when i try to get my variable inside the MC Page : trace(dispObject.my_variableXML), it doesnt work..
here is my function (only 1 page for this example ):
function exportxml(evt:MouseEvent):void { dispObject=getChildByName(Page_Array[0]); trace(dispObject.name); //trace Page1 trace(dispObject.my_variableXML);// here it dont trace the variableXML } normally if i trace(Page1.my_variableXML); , it should trace "my_varableXML" no ??
I've been playing around with custom classes. My objective was to create a custom class (Testing) that would create a box when an instance of the class is created. I've tried three different approaches, however only (3) seems to be showing up. I'm just curious why (1) or (2) doesn't work?
Also is there a better approach than (3)? Since at the moment it's been created on _root. I hope the box can only be accessible through the instance. Since I'd like to incorporate the whole idea of public, private, encapsulation, etc.
i have created a Vehicle.as file and a Car.as file which are in the same project. The problem i am having is trying to use the properties in my Car.as from my Vehicle.as file.
[Code]...
When i type this line of code, _gasMileage = mpg; and build it i get the following error, C:UsersvistaDocumentsFlashDevelopProjectsVehi cleAppCar.as(20): col: 4 Error: Attempted access of inaccessible property _gasMileage through a reference with static type Car. Now i tried to add an import statement i.e import Vehicle but that did not work. How can i use the private attributes of my Vehicle class in my Car class appropriately?
