ActionScript 2.0 :: Reset Vars In Penner's Functions
Jan 6, 2004
i am builiding a photogallery where at each stage i load six thumbnails. Each "placeholder" is initially set to 20% xscale and yscale and when each thumb has fully loaded, i want to have the thumb tween from 20% to 80%. The jpg thumbs are loaded inside the placeholder.when the thumb has fully loaded, goodToGo = 110 and so i want to trigger the AS tween.[code]to get some idea of how it would look, check out URL...and click inside any of the collections.
how can i call public functions or vars of a sprite class from another class (or frame script)? i keep getting 1061: Call to a possibly undefined method getSide through a reference with static type flash.display:Sprite.
//Framescript var a:Sprite = new customRect(); addChild(a);
since i started using Flash Builder (Flex 4) i could see that it can auto-generate some handlers for example if i have a <s:Button> and i add a click="" i get a hint of "Generate Click Handler" and when i click Enter he writes this code:
Code: protected function button1_clickHandler(event:MouseEvent):void { // TODO Auto-generated method stub }
Now i knew about public and private things(functions/vars) and if a function was public i could execute it form outside of the class and inside. But if it was private i could only execute it from inside of the class and i couldn't execute it from outside of the class.
So anyway, what does "protected" mean? what does it do?I was thinking that if i load a SWF in my app I can go inside of that SWF and execute functions, read values from variables, or anything like that ... and that seems like a security problem ... So i was wondering if the "protected" keyword could help me with this security problem. And if not, I would like to know what is it good for
Lately I changed Flash CS3 for CS4. In older version classes written by me worked fine. However, in CS4 I have serious problem with them. Compiler states that part of my functions and vars are undefined, which is not true. I tried everything - changing name of class, functions, moving class file to different directory, removing package. I even counted { to check if they have pairs. I'm really out of options what can cause those errors.
Here are error given by compiler:
1120: Access of undefined property mnChangeMan. 1120: Access of undefined property ChangeManSliders. 1120: Access of undefined property ChangeManInput.
Could anyone suggest how to fix the function at the bottom so that when button forward_btn with label "Go to next Training Point" when clicked recalculates the fields created in function fileLoaded.[code]

I've seen some discussion on how to load a child swf using swfLoader and accessing it's variables but I am wondering if it is possible to do this without adding any code to the child swf.Either accessing public vars or listening for funciton calls would work fine
I am just wandering how do i use the equations I downloaded from robertpenner.com. when ever i try even working out of the book i get error messages like **Error** Scene=Scene 1, layer=Layer 1, frame=1:Line 350: There is no method with the name 'easeOutBounce'. return(Math.easeOutBounce(t * 2 - d, 0, c, d) * 0.500000 + c * 0.500000 + b); Why does it say there is no method with the name bounceEaseOut Can someone tell me who i can use these in my flash movies. I tried everything out of his book and i still get it wrong.
use Robert Penner's tweening methods? I have all the files. I understand that at the top of the actions you do include# tween.as or something like that (I just had to reformat my powerbook and haven't loaded the files back on yet to look at exactly what that line of code is).
But looking at the function below, how would I apply it to an MC to move its position.
// simple linear tweening - no easing // t: current time, b: beginning value, c: change in value, d: duration Math.linearTween = function (t, b, c, d) {

i think i might be missing some information here about how to manage classes and display objects. In the main .fla i have a mc called player; so I made a player.as class and put a linkage on player mc considering it would work as the mcs class. Well, its not working, the mclip is not noticing any of the vars and functions i added in the class. Anyone figures whats going on? How to make it work?
Just new in forum and just new in as3 programming. All i want to do is to make some physics simulations (i'm physics teacher...). So i made my first sim with the following code, just to simulate a simple motion with constant velocity. It works ok, except the part i need to reset the display by the means to start the motion all over again (reset button). Then the motion starts but the traces of the previous motion remains on stage. I tried the null command (sp=null) but the sim could not start again because the sp nedded to be non-null...
I have an issue with adding a reset button to my drag and drop movie clips.The problem is, if a student drags a movie clip to a wrong location on the SWF file I want them to be able to hit a reset button that would take them the same SWF that they opened and what would showup would a clear page for them to restart their drag and drop exercise.I know how to make the button for this just want the proper action script to be able for user to start over with no movie clip symbols on the page.
reset in google yields only its use for timers.However I have code bg.reset() which I suppose puts the background back to the beginning of its timeline.
With out getting into a ton of background I am wondering if there is a command that will reset all the variables in a swf at once with out having to do them individually?
I've googled and searched my books and can't find anything. Another option I could see is having the current flash reload, that would set everything back to the start but I couldn't find how to do that either.
I have a series of calculations i'm doing over a bunch of objects stored in a array. Each function is pretty CPU demanding but if you only run one function, it just works fine.
I've got a project thats getting a bit big, so Im taking the actionscript out into separate as files. I want all the basic functions to be in BasicFunctions.as and the make a library for more specific functions. I find that a lot of people use the import statement but I cant get that to work with a simple Hello World trace, yet the include statement works fine (see attached). I understand that import/include work differently, but which is the better method? If import, then is that heavier to work with. Any rate, what's the best way to organise code when it gets to the 1000+ lines?
I'm trying to find a way to have global functions in my as project, similar to how flash does with stuff like the util functions (describeType()...), where you can just call the function wherever you need it. For example:
[Code]...
So when I call Test(), it prints out "hello world" fine. My problem comes in that I can't change the name of the Test function, and I can't add any other functions without compiler errors. Is it possible to have a load of global functions in one file, or do I have to split them up into separate files like in the example? Also, I know that I can make a Global class and call static functions like Code: Global.doSomething() but I'd like to know if there's a way to do it as flash does it (describeType(), getDefinitionByName(), etc), or rather, how does flash do it?
I have one function that puts text in a text field and makes a button goto a url onRelease.The code is like this:
Code: item.onRelease = function() { myButton.onRelease = function() { getURL("http://google.com", "_blank"); } talk = this.txt; } the only problem is that the button doesn't work onRelease. i think that it is because there are too many functions there, but at the same time,
Functions embedded inside other functions? In all my years of ActionScript programming, I've never seen this (this is part of legacy code written by someone else which I am adapting):
Its a complicated senario for me. I have a sound management singleton with an asset like dictionary storing all referances to my urls and assets and the guff inside it-
I have a function called addItem(id:String, url:String):Object
I would love to do something similar as soundManager.addItem(id:String, url:String).play() or soundManager.addItem(id:String, url:String).stop() of which it'll both add my item to my dictionary, and begin playing the sound
