ActionScript 2.0 :: Showing And Hiding Buttons?
Jan 13, 2010How do I make the buttons hide and show on mouse over?

View 1 RepliesI have a flex app that I want to hide in a div until the user clicks a link or element of some type. I've noticed that embedding the swf in a div with style display:none does not actually hide the swf, so how would I go about accomplishing this? The goal is to have the flex app loading in the background while the user does other things.
View 2 RepliesWell, i started a new project with a flying thing.I want to hide and show flames behind the flying "car".So is it possible to hide and show Movieclips with AS?
View 2 RepliesI am currently developing a site where I created custom cursors. I want the custom cursor to change only in the middle of the page where a greeting card can be created but return back to the regular mouse pointer at the top and bottom of the page where the navigation and the footer reside. As of now I have my code so that on EnterFrame mouse.hide and have it go to the movie clip that changes out the cursor. So where ever it is on the screen it stays as the custom cursor. But as I said before, I only want it to change out in the middle of the screen.
View 1 Repliesi was wondering could somebody tell me what code would i use to hide a movie clip?
mcYouWin.visible = "false";
didn't work, but that was just a guess at the code lol.
Could anybody tell me what the code is to hide and show a movieclip with the name "mcYouWin"
I want to dynically open this movie clip and move it to a specific location (x,y) on the main timeline on top of everything else.Then I want to draw lines on that new movie clip that display on top of the image on that movie clip.I have an idea on how to draw the lines, (well at least I think I do)
Code:
_root.audiogram.lineStyle(2, 0xFF0000, 100);
_root.audiogram.moveTo(0, 0);
[code]......
In Internet Explorer 7 and 8 (WinXP/Flash 10), if I play my videos using the JW Player in the slider they work. However if I move to the next slide and then return to the original slide the video is no longer displayed - the audio is still audible and the video can be played and paused, but there is no image.
I've asked this question on [URL], but the support member cannot see this problem on their computer. Does anyone else see this issue, and if so, You can view the slider and video here: [URL]
I am not a strong AS3 programmer but I have managed to get 90% of what I need done for a current project:

I am having one problem that I am not having much luck with though, I would like to have the two buttons visible set to false when the movie loads, which I hope would stop the initial flash that happens when the movie loads.
I have made a script for a custom cursor, but the only problem is that when I hover the cursor over a button, the button shows on top of it and the cursor hides underneath and you can't really see what you're trying to click.
Here is my script:
Code:
onEnterFrame = function() {
cursor._x = _xmouse;
cursor._y = _ymouse;
Mouse.hide();
}
(The instance's name is "cursor")
I quite often have to create portfolio sites which have a list of projects on the lefthand side. When each project is clicked the relevent content is loaded into the main screen. I'm now moving towards creating such sites where the menu content is XML driven.
What I want to know is, what is the BEST way to do the old radio button style thing where the clicked button changes state (eg. colour) and the when another button is clicked, it returns to it's up state.
I've done this before, when I've created the buttons manually, by creating a 'clicked' variable that can either be true or false for each button, the value of which is changed when a button is clicked. The problem with this (I think) is that it relies upon me knowing how many buttons I have, and if this is driven by XML that is going to get messy.
What I'm after is a very simple, self contained method of setting a button's state when it is clicked (no problem), but then 'unclicks' when any other button in the menu is pressed.
I'm creating some buttons and I want to show an animation every time a person clicks on it. The problem is I have five buttons and need to remove that animation before the new animation starts.
Let me explain this:
1. Press button 001
2. Button 001 animation starts and stops at the last frame.
3. Press button 002
4. Button 001 animation returns to frame 1.
5. Button 002 animation starts and stops at the last frame.
I'm using vars but my code is not working. Here's the AS for the buttons: (ZonaActiva is the the invisible movie clip that triggers the button animation).
ActionScript Code:
stop();
ZonaActiva.onRollOver = function(){
gotoAndPlay("inicio");
[Code] .....
In the stage I have the blood animation movie clip under the buttons. Each one has its own instance name (i.e:mcBlood001, mcBlood002, and so on).
My problem is that I have made the tutorial named "Creating Animated Buttons" but when I set the text (b1.buttText.buttonText.text = "portfolio";) de sample text is disappeared and the new one doesn't come. I have traced the variable b1.buttText.buttonText.text and it is the "portfolio".
View 1 RepliesWhen you have movies in a layer, how can you stop the buttons of the underlying levels from showing through. I don't want the user to think that there is a button on the level showing because the cursor turns into a hand....plus also when clicked it does activate the lower movies actions.
View 1 RepliesI'm working on an educational Flash animation. In one scene I have 4 buttons which need to show different movieclips. I have created all 4 movie clips and inserted into one layer in 4 frames, one after another one. I also gave the frames specific names. Then the buttons are all in one frame with a name so I could call it when we're on "rollout" mode. Now, when I go over the first button it shows its movieclip perfectly but the second one show two, overlapping, with the previous frame! I did also deleted the previous movie clip but still get the same error!!!
Here is the code that I use:
on (rollOver) {
gotoAndPlay("lobes", "think");
} on (rollOut) {
gotoAndPlay("lobes", "lobes-button");
stop();
}
lobes is the name of the scene, think is the name of the frame which has the movie clip and "lobes-button" is the name of the frame which has all the buttons without any movie clips.
I have created an image gallery that loads from an XML file using mostly previous Kirupa threads. From Scotty's code (I think -- my head is moosh now) I got numbered buttons for navigating between the images.Each button is a movie clip with different labeled frames for "up", "active", "hover", and "down" states. I'd like to have the numbered button change color when its image is on view and then change back when a different image loads, and I can't figure out how to do that. I know part of the problem is that the onRollOut function overrides other changes, so I'm willing to give up the rollover effect if necessary.[code]
View 1 RepliesI'm making an interactive website using ActionScript 3 and no matter what I try and do I keep getting the following error messages:
Characters, Layer 'actions', Frame 2, Line 5 1021: Duplicate function definition.
Characters, Layer 'actions', Frame 2, Line 12 1021: Duplicate function definition .Characters, Layer 'actions', Frame 2, Line 19 1021: Duplicate function definition.
I don't really understand what I'm doing wrong because it says "duplicate function" yet they aren't the same functions. Here is the ActionScript I've used for the first page:
stop();home.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, goHome);function goHome(evt:MouseEvent):void{ gotoAndPlay("Home", 1)}characters.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, goCharacters);function[code]....
whenever I publish a FLA file I have, and load it onto a website, I see elements which aren't suppose to be within the frame sitting outside the frame.These elements are outside the canvas in flash and come in for brieft flashy moments but then fly back out again.How do I hide all files outside the canvas? I tried masking the top layer and adding everything underneath it and locking it but that never worked.
View 3 RepliesI have a small microsite built using Flash 4. It contains 5 'pages' assigned to individual keyframes, each keyframe separated by 5 frames (F5s). Each Keyframe is labelled 'page1' through to 'page5'. I have a navigation bar for the entire site which includes NEXT and PREVIOUS buttons. When the user reaches the LAST PAGE/KEYFRAME I do not want the NEXT BUTTON to show. I suspect it is something simple like nextbutton.visible = true - but I've spent a day trying to work out how to do this but without success.I am using AS3 and the existing coding is shown below.[code]
View 1 RepliesI download a flash template to take apart and play around with to make sure i still know my way around the software. Everything was going great until I discovered there are part of it that I can not find. The animation are not in the timeline or anywhere else I've looked. When I scrub through it they aren't there, but when I preview the movie (F12) they are always there. I managed to delete the pictures in those particular animations, but can not edit or find anything else.
Here is the link to the file... [URL]
I somehow hided the frames:How du i undo that?
View 2 RepliesI created set of classes which generates a 3D Graph. its in as files and I have to had it ofer to someone else.
How can i include all the classes and compile it with the swf, so no one can see the source code.
I am attempting to hide a SWF file that has the AS2 FLV component in it only after the FLV has finished playing. How would I go about this?I've searched google fairly extensively and had no luck.I've found a way to hide the Div the SWF is in using a timed Javascript event that is external to the SWF, but I'd like to find a more elegant solution.
View 4 RepliesI'm building an mp3 player expressively to make my music URLs a little less steal-able. Forgive my hacking ignorance here, but would it be better to embed my playlist XML (with the URLs) in the SWF rather than having the SWF read the XML file from my server? Seems that the latter approach would be easier to intercept...
I'm pretty sure that no one wants my mp3s badly enough to decompile the code. But with the player currently at my site, my XML playlists -- with the URLs -- started to come up in Google searches. Would rather avoid *that* level of exposure.
I have a flv playback compotent and I created a control bar with play and pause button. I would like to hide the bar until the mouse rolls over it and then it would appear for a few seconds and then hide again. Much like the skin effect, but I'm not using the skins.
View 4 RepliesI'm wanting to remove/hide a mc permanently. I though visible = false would hid it but when you go forward a frame and then back a frame the mc is back.
Code:
function pickupKey(evt:MouseEvent):void
{
gotKey = true;
[code]....
I've done some searching and it looks like you cant hide a layer using action script. I'm going to have a page with a lot of form controls on it and when the user clicks the submit button, i want all those controls to go away so that i can display something else.I really dont want to have to do control._visible = false for every single item. I did see one person saying i could attach those form fields (movieclips) to a parent movieclip, and then just make the parent visibl = false. would that be the best way to hide a bunch of controls without explicitly setting the visability on each movieclip
View 6 RepliesI have an XML file that my .swf opens and reads from my server. I actually have the .swf call a php file that builds the xml output which works fine. My question is, is it possible for anyone that can see my .swf project on their browser get the path to the php file that it calls?
Can I use POST in actionscript instead of GET when getting a url so I could hide the variables sent?
Is there a header or something that flash sends that I catch with my php file? So i can tell if flash is calling it, or if some user is just directly going to the file to get the information. Or if all else fails, can I have flash create a file on my server that when I call my php file it first checks to see if that file holds the right data before spitting out the xml. When other people link to my flash file on their server, it seems this method might still work seeing as it's my servers flash .swf being called.
I have a FLVPlayback on my stage, but I want to use my own controls rather than the ones provided by the skin.I read that I can make my own skin - but have not been successful.
View 2 RepliesWe have a little in-house LMS with courses built in Flash. Scores are updated and retrieved with POSTs to PHP scripts which query a MySQL database. All the course content and quiz questions are in xml files. Those XML files are easily accessible from a user's Temporary Internet Files (sort of SCORM style, for those familiar with it) and while you'd have to be pretty desperate to cheat at something like a Fire Safety test, it's still a vulnerability we'd like to solve.
I intend to move the quiz data (and eventually, the course content) into a MySQL database, then probably build the XML in PHP and echo that to the Flash course (as we've been doing to update and retrieve assessment scores). I think I could limit how and when the xml is displayed by passing hashes and shared secrets and whatnot between the PHP page and Flash, but this only limits outside access, and anyone viewing the course legitimately will still see the XML passed around (I think..).
Surely I'm not reinventing fire here. Is there a method or a technology in existence that allows the safe, discrete passage of xml into Flash?
Does anyone know how to hide the tab bar up top on a flex tabnavigator component? I don't want to see the tab bar at all and I don't need to click on it (I have an automated iterator through the tabs).
