I have over 1200 videos in our catalog that were somehow transcoded with a missing duration, assigning it a value of 0 - the data rate is also 0. How do I determine the video duration by another means, with just the .flv file as a resource.

I'm creating a video player in an environment where stream.bytesTotal isn't available. I need to use the duration metadata encoded in flv files to extrapolate for things such as the play progress, and the time display.
The problem is when loading an flv the metadata, including the duration, fails to be accessed 2 out of 3 times. Here is the function that iterates through the metadata object

I have a FLV player using netstream. I am using metaData to grab the video duration and time. It will grab the total duration time, but I want it to countdown to zero, like iTunes. Basically, the time will play and the duration will countdown to zero at the end of the video. I thought that I could take (duration) - (time played) but it's not working.

View 1 RepliesI'm streaming live video through FMS 3 and passing the streams to another FMS application to be recorded. While recording, I inject some custom metadata into the stream. Once recording is finished, I move the flv to another location and update my database with the metadata contained in the stream for later reference. All this succeeds without a problem.
However, only sometimes, the default 'duration' metadata (note - I never mess with the duration metadata, merely insert my own fields that are required for other reasons) is COMPLETELY wrong
Is there a way to tell a movie clip duration without opening it? I have several movie clips on scene and it would be great to be able to tell where the scene ends, without opening each movie clip, adding their length to the starting frame and comparing them, which one will last the longest in the end.
View 3 RepliesI have written a browser based stream publisher for my work. It works well for most clients until we get to a few who are streaming live tv shows (which they are producing) where they are getting interlacing issues. We have looked at software based solutions to de-interlace the video, but that puts the video out of sync with the audio and just brings a whole mess of headaches with it. I am fairly sure I can't de-interlace inside my publisher without adding excessive overhead to the computer.
It looks as though our solution is to use an ingestion style software that would handle both de-interlacing and keeping audio sync. I believe Adobe has a piece of software that they offer for that... I can't remember the name. Anyway, my question is that I need to determine the length of time that the stream has been published (while still live) from within a client player. I have read through the livedocs on NetStream and NetConnection and see that netstream.time only returns the length of time that the stream has been playing in my player... not how long the stream has been publishing. I don't have access to change any code on our FMS servers as we are going through Highwinds and they don't allow that.
I am wondering if anyone knows a way to determine the real length in pixels that a phrase uses.The problem lies on the fact that every character does not take the same space (x pixels). Let's say I have a dynamic text field and I want to know how many pixels does the sentence use.is not the same to have:phrase #1 =iiiiiiiiiithanphrase #2 =wwwwwwwwwweven though both are using 10 characters.What is the most precise way to find this out?

resources for building (or skinning) your own video player aren't nearly as easy to find as I thought they should be, and these tutorials are fantastic. The only things missing, that how to achieve, are (a) the video counting in 0:00 as it plays, and also being able to list the duration - so display something like: 0:00 / 5:47

On Linux, YouTube places temporary flash files in /tmp. Nautilus can display the duration (Minutes:Seconds) of them, but I haven't found a way to extract the duration using python.'

Heres what I have so far as a test I have used gotoand play . If I insert this the movie does not reach 5 seconds but goes to frame 8 straight away. If I try a < or == nothing happens ?

View 1 RepliesI'm having a bit of an issue with a video player I'm building out. I THINK that it might be the encoding process on the backend that's causing this, but I can't be sure. Basically, when loading an .flv from a server, the NetStatus events and onMetaData received doesn't fire until the video is 100% loaded. This is causing some pretty major issues including not being able to play the video until it's fully downloaded (and these videos could be 20 minutes long for all I know).

is it possible to make the duration of a movieclip equal the duration of the preloader, i mean is it possible to make something like, the time the preloader needs to reach the 100% = the duration of the movieclip? i'm using AS 3.0 and flash CS4 just in case it helps here is my code for the loader:

I have situation I want the player to play the video from the beginning to only 15 sec, even the video length is more than 15 sec for example it will be about 10 min. but I only want it to play beginning 10 sec. Is there a way for the flash player to only play 15 sec of the video? how is this work, and what function should I look for? is it also possible with HTML5 player?

I was wondering if I were to create a NetStream object and publish it passing in "record" (allowing the end user to record a video via webcam which is then stored on the FMS), how would I specify the bitrate and frame rates etc of the video being recorded? View 1 RepliesI'm trying to accurately determine how many seconds of a video (NetStream) have been loaded so I can scrub/seek correctly. First I tried doing duration*(ns.bytesLoaded/ns.bytesTotal) but this is inaccurate by maybe 15%, ie if that calculation says 20 seconds is loaded and I scrub to 20 seconds ns.time will tell me it can't go past 17 seconds.
I think this is because the size of the file loaded doesn't map perfectly to the number of seconds loaded (obviously), ie as the video loads, some of the bytes loaded aren't the actual video but are overhead of the container/file the video is in. So to load 1% of video you have to actually load 1.15% of the file's size.
Is their a way to determine the height and width of your flv f4v file after you dynamically load it?
Couldn't find any properties in the loader or netstreaminfo that I could grab the info from.
