ActionScript 3.0 :: 15 Second Time Out - "batchifying" My Lengthy Task Not Helping?
Jun 10, 2010
I have a highly intensive benchmark/testing chore and I'm getting the 15-second timeout error despite my best efforts to keep my script running.Basically I'm making about 1.2 million remote procedure calls (RPCs) over a socket and want to check the results of these rpcs.I can make the calls just fine. The problem I'm having is verifying the results of all these calls once the loop is complete.
Once the calls have all been sent, my flash movie moves to frame 7 which initializes a bunch of variables that I need for my RPC checking loop.Frame 8 does all the work. The first thing it does is stop the playhead for my main movie. Then it sets up a timer to wait for minute or two until any straggling RPC responses come in. [It's been my experience that these are likely to straggle in for several minutes when I'm really pushing the server hard.]
If the timer gets too high, the [b]checkResponse[/b] function returns and the playhead moves to frame 9 which checks to see if I've checked all the RPCs. If not, the playhead returns to from 8 which skips the timer this time and starts checking immediately.The output I'm getting ends up like this:
elapsed time:4985elapsed time:4985Error: Error #1502: A script has executed for longer than the default timeout period of 15 seconds. at flash_fla::MainTimeline/checkResponses() at flash_fla::MainTimeline/frame8() at flash.display::MovieClip/gotoAndPlay() at flash_fla::MainTimeline/runDelayedResponseCheck() at flash.utils::Timer/_timerDispatch() at flash.utils::Timer/tick()[code]....

i would like to make my code easier to read by replacing long paths with variables, or something similar. in my code, i can target an instance many times, but the instance can have a lengthy path deep within the display list. for example: myButton instance could be located at myButtonsPanel.section2.redArea.myButton, or something like that. is it possible to substitue this long path as a variable or constant? something like: var myPath = myButtonsPanel.section2.redArea; therefore, calling the instance would be: myPath.myButton;

I'm new to actionscript so I can't create task that I need.My problem is that, I can't change the task doing every frame with actionscript.let me example:
ActionScript Code:
instance_name.x += 2;
if (instance_name.x > stage.stageWidth - instance_name.width)
{
instance_name.x -= 2;
}
In this code I told flash to move the object (instance_name) 2 pixels to the right every frame. and if it arrives at the end of stage, It move 2 pixels to the left every frame. But when I test the movie, at the end of stage it wouldn't turn back and move to the left and stood still. Its because it process ( instance_name.x += 2; ) after it got out of the end of stage.

Flex Builder 3 provides support to generate actionscipt from WSDL via the GUI ( Data->Import Web Service (WSDL) ) - but this sort of method requires that you check in the generated source. This is not desirable to us (we understand both sides of the 'should generated source be checked in' and we have decided that they should not) so we would like a method to generate the actionscript classes from an ant task. In this case, the WSDL would live in the file system.

I'm trying to create a Flex application that automates a web browser to perform certain tasks. I would use the application to login to a site, parse data out of the HTML, and send it to a jsp page for processing. I currently have an application written in WPF that does that exact thing, but it needs to be ported to flex.

I've tried using the haltonfailure="false" and failureproperty="compile.failed" but ant just throws an error when I try to run it: "The <mxmlc> type doesn't support the "haltonfailure" attribute." I need to do a little cleanup before the build script exits if the mxmlc task fails, how do I achieve this?

I'm building a simple task manager that will at this moment execute tasks in a serial manner. I have been reading about threads in flex and it seems it is not quite clear/prepared for real threads.
What I'm looking at this moment is a way to execute a method at the beginning or end of a flash builder update. This method will be the one that will take the responsibility to start tasks added in the previous update. The removing of finished tasks will be done through event notification (the task will notify it finished) then the scheduler will remove it and dispatch the message again to let the outside world know the task was over.

I am basically creating an application that prioritizes jobs listing, so far I can assign a task priority, description. So basically once the task description and task priority is chosen, the user will click the add button, and this will be stored in the database and on the screen another mc will appear where the created priority and description assigned will be display. In the mc there will also be a delete button to remove/delete the task. What code could I use to remove the task...
So far I have typed the following
mc.task_mc.delete_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, onDeleteClick);
private function onDeleteClick(e:MouseEvent):void {
}

Has anyone noticed the following behavior building Flex programs using the mxmlc ANT task (running in the background): as the MXMLC task starts, it steals the window focus from whatever application is currently running, and then gives it back again! This is extremely disruptive.Is there a way to run the MXMLC task "headless" so it doesn't interact at all with the window system?I'm running on Mac OS X (10.5.8, if that matters), and Flash 4.0.1 (although the behavior existed on 3.x as well).

I'm trying to set a common task, wich is activate/desactivate interactivity (clickability) of a button. (sometimes clickable, sometimes not). The button is a blue bowl. I use the stopPropagation() of event metod to stop propagation, then my blue bowl is not clickable anymore. (if you erase "stopPropagation()", it becomes clickable) It works.
But I want to change this statut. I've designed a ON/OFF switcher, who set the blue bowl clickability ON/OFF. And it doesn't work. I've tried everything : removeEventListener, an "if" who write "stopPropagation()" or not, but it fails, it stay on the beggining statut. Here's the very simple .fla to show you : [URL] What should be my "ON/OFF switcher" code ?

I'm a complete newbie regarding Flash development, but I've been tasked with automating SWF creation from an AVI source (and quickly!). Once the SWF is finished playing it should endlessly loop from the last frame to about 5 seconds prior to the end frame. Think of a speaking character, followed by some idle movements. We want the idle movements to endlessly loop. What I've done/need to do is:
1) Automate the creation of the AVI. Done.
2) Convert the AVI to SWF (using FFmpeg). Done.
3) Write Actionscript to detect the last frame, and then jump
to some other frame.
4) Merge the SWF with the actionscript and produce a new SWF which is then placed on a website.
Being a newbie to Flash, I'm overwhelmed by the array of options out there for something so simple in concept. I'm looking for a command line solution so everything can be completely automated. My questions are: Can steps 3 & 4 be done with the FlexSDK? What would the steps be to get something like this accomplished?

I double-clicked on a bitmap-item in the library and instead of opening the properties-windows where you can change compression, import and so on, the focus changed to a random explorer window and flash got "locked". Flash probably thought that it actually opened a new sub-window and waited for it being closed, but there was no such window! Seems like the open-procedure failed and the next window to focus on was just an explorer window. Closing this one didn't get the focus back to flash. What a luck, I could still save the file using ctrl-s but couldn't get back to the application. So I had to kill Flash with the task-manager.

use the mxmlc task of the Flex Ant tasks with a user-definable list of source path or library paths? The idea is that the user can define an arbitrary list of source paths and/or library (swc) paths into an Ant properties file and the build file takes these values and evaluates them for use in the mxmlc task. Just wondering if there are any tricks (maybe utilizing filtering/string replacing) to get this working?

I have a fairly complex animation movie clip within my main timeline in a Flash file. When you click a button, it plays the movie clip, then goes back out to the main timeline. The first time the movie clip runs, it plays choppy and slow, but if I play it two or more times, it plays correctly (smoothly). Is there some actionscript I need to preload the movie clip, or some other solution to the first-run slowness?

I'm testing Live streaming with FMSS. The stream is pushed to FMSS buy Adobe FMLE software. Streaming works fine until I reach 1300-1400 simultaneous connections.No matter what the encoding ratebit is (150kbps or 2000kbps) the stream is no longer play from time to time (5-8 seconds).
The CPU (2xIntel Quad) is loaded less than 20% and memory used is about 2 GB (there is plenty of memory installed 32G). The OS is RedHat 5.3 64bit platform. Network uplink maximum rate is 4Gbps.I disabled the Queue but the problem still persist.

I've loaded a video into the FLVPlayback component and I'm looking for a way to get the total time and the time played so far and output them to two text fields so the end result would look something like "00:12/00:50".
Right now I'm defining the video by the components inspector but I'm eventually hoping to define this bit by actionscript as well.

i know the x values are too small but they should still all appear on the stage right ?, only the final item in the array appears...i think i might be replacing the previous one with the new one.
