ActionScript 3.0 :: Accessing UI Object Stored In FLA File

Nov 30, 2009

I am new to action script working with flash cs4 with action script 3.0. How do i access a UI object(stored in .fla) in action script. I have already linked these two files. It is working fine. I have a button as UI object, that was converted as symbol and instance name has already given. I cannot access the button using the instance name in actionscript. If i tried so there is no intellisense. How do i access it in script. I am using oops style of coding.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Accessing The Name Of A Function Stored In An Array?

Oct 6, 2006

I have a "back button" scheme that includes using an array to store references to functions.However, when i have to troubleshoot something like this, one of the things i'd like to be able to trace is the names of the functions that are in the array. If i trace a for loop through the array i just get [type Function] for each function. I would like to look at it's name.Right now, im using a workaround that places objects with a func property and a funcName property, which is a string that needs to be indicated manually.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Accessing A Property Of A Movieclip That Has Been Stored In An Array?

Apr 20, 2011

I need to create an Array of movieclips so that I'm able to read / modify / add its properties. I thought the best solution was to create an Array of strings with each movieclip's name and then using this to convert the string to an expression, but I don't really know what to do when I want to access one of its properties. Here's my code:

ActionScript Code:
var room:Object = new Object
room.objects = ["mcObj1", "mcObj2", "mcObj3"]
mcObj1.Description = "It's a ball and it bounces"

Actionscript 3.0 :: Accessing Data Stored In Custom Events?

Oct 14, 2010

Once a button is clicked in a submenu called SelectChar(a menu class extending my menu base class), it dispatches a custom event carrying an array of variables. This event is then listened for in the main Document Class called Engine, where the value of the passed variable can be used. For testing purposes im only passing 1 arguement in the array.

my Error when trying to trace the passed variable in isolation "trace(e.arg[0]);": 1119: Access of possibly undefined property arg through a reference with static type flash.events:Event.

Okay, i hope that made sense... heres the relevent code:

custom event class: passCharEvent.as

Code: Select allpackage com.asgamer.snipergame

public class passCharEvent extends Event

Actionscript :: Extending The Dictionary Class - Accessing Stored Data?

Jul 18, 2009

I want to extend the dictionary class. Everything works so far except that in some of my methods that need to reference the dictionary's content I make a call like:

this[ key ]

It doesn't like that. It just tells me that there's no property 'key'. Is there a way to way to access the data within this class?Also, I'm using an integer for the key.

Edit: I've found that the same behavior happens when you extend Array.

var myArray : Array = new Array();
trace( myArray[ 0 ] );
var myArrayExtender : ArrayExtender = new ArrayExtender();[code]....

Where in this case, myArray returns "undefined" and myArrayExtender throws error 1069. ArrayExtender is an empty class that extends Array and calls super() in the constructor.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Loaded Object Is Apparently Null After Its Stored?

Aug 24, 2011

I am having an issue with a class I'm working on. I currently load an image as a bitmap and store its data into regState:BitmapData so that I may make new instances of that image later on. When I test if I can use the loaded data at a later time with my newBitmapIntance() function, it says that regState is null. I'm lost as to why this is the case, since it works flawlessly to create an instance of itself in my loadContent() function. Any way I can successfully hold on to my loaded bitmapdata for later use?

My class so far for reference:

Code:

package{
import flash.display.MovieClip;
import flash.events.Event;

Actionscript 3 :: Does Object Have A Property Stored By Default That Represents Its Uniqueness

Nov 17, 2011

I've been using a custom base class with an id property that is automatically assigned by a manager class when an instance is created. I use this value in multiple ways and require it to differentiate each instance.

I want to remove the need for my own base class but still have a way to tell instances throughout my application apart.

Is there a property set on all objects in ActionScript 3 that can act as a unique identifier?

ActionScript 2.0 :: Create Txt File To Be Stored On Clientside?

Sep 27, 2004

I would like to know whether is it possible to create a text file that contains some variables or strings that will be stored on the users pc (client side)? I have a button on my e-learning website that will launch an exe(located on user's computer). When the exe is launched, the user is required to record and save his audio on his computer. When the user clicks on the save button on the exe, the user has the option to save the audio on any folders and any name of their preference. This part of development is done. However, I would like to create a 'default' file name whereby the user can either use the default name or change the file name themselves. When the user navigate to other lessons and click to save the audio recorded, the default file name will change according to the unit/activity name. Therefore, I personnally think that the way to make this realise is to pass a tag/variable/text file from the flash. The exe file will read the file names from the tag/variable/text file and display a different default name for each different page on my site.

Example: When user save an audio on unit S35PE12 (unit/activity name), the flash will pass this value(S35PE12) to the exe. If the user is saving an audio from unit L23PE41, the value being passed to exe will be L23PE41.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Accessing Object From Other Object

Jul 20, 2011

I'm just starting with OOP in AS3 so apologies if this question is too simple...The goal of this script is to have a button change it's own features (colour and transparency) and change the alpha value of a loaded picture.There are 27 buttons for 27 (stacked) pictures.In the fla is the following code:[code]When I try to access the picture (= portrait class and the test_portrait var in the fla) it can't be found. The object and the loader have for example this path when I debug: Movie Clip: Frame=0 Target="_level0.p_4.l_4. But when I do trace(getChildByName("p_"+tmp_name)); in the P_button class it returns null. Doing the same trace from the fla returns: [object Portrait] Why can't I access it from the P_button class?

IDE :: Accessing An Object Placed On A Frame?

Nov 25, 2009

Ok, so I made a custom class, but I did not want to add all the text to it through code (much easier to type it in flash on the frame). I name the instance aScoreBoard.

As my code runs, I need to call some of the functions that are part of the ScoreBoard class. As the code gets to this point, I try this line:

aScoreBoard.UpdateScores(passArray);

which will update the scores on the scoreboard. When that line in AS3 tries to execute, I get this error:

TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.
at Main/Main:ayEnd()[C:projectsDev_LearningLongJumpsrcMain.as:616]
at Main/Main::ButtonAfterJump()[C:projectsDev_LearningLongJumpsrcMain.as:606]

Is there a way to do things this way? or will I have to go and do all the extra text entering in the code?
