I hava a button on the stage as instance name button.Inside the button objectd,IN the second layer of my button, I added a dynamic test with instance name dynamictest.When I add code to my first frame in the main stage time line, the program can not identfiy the dynamic text with instance name dynamictext.Should I say button.dynamictext.

stage.addChild(gameOver_mc);
The movie loads as required.But when the movie has been added I want the user to be able to press spacebar and a function to run.So in the GameOver.as class I wrote the following:

But as soon as the movie clip tries to load I get the error message: TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.I would have thought this would work fine. When I trace the statement in the Constructor function is works. Its only when I try to add an event listener that I get the problems. So am I not allowed to add event listeners from a dynamically loaded class?

I've got a dynamic text field in my button object. I have named the text field "myText". How can I modify the text within it? myButton.myText.text = "test"; won't work, because it can't access myText.
View 2 RepliesI'm having trouble simulating a click call to a button(displayObject) thats generated via an API call( youtube as3 API). I have not seen any mention of security reasons as to why I can not simulate a click as long as something is registered with a click handler. Basically I checked to make sure the button made is listening to a mouse click event with:
trace(generatedButton.hasEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK)) which returns true
I proceed to than call this:
generatedButton.dispatchEvent( new MouseEvent(MouseEvent.CLICK, true) );
And nothing happens yet if I physically click the button it works. Is there some security measure that prevents something from being fake clicked unless its origin is strictly from the system mouse?
I even set a timeout call on the click function and moved my cursor over the button and let it fire in case it was an issue of the mouse having to over the object but still nothing. I am kind of stumped at this point.

I am currently making a game. The user drags back the fish and then lets go when it gets to the desired force and angle. If it hits the penguin it disappears however i want it to rebound off the iceberg so it can bounce off and hit the penguin. However it just disappears i've tried everything and i cant work it out.

I have mcA ( movie clip and instance name is mcA). in mcA there are two new movieclips whick i added - mcB and mcD (simple colored square movieclips).
We want if mcB hit mcD to hittest it and add for mcB some function like:

I'm wondering if there is a method to do a hit test object between two movieclips from the same class. The movieclips are being spawned into the stage using a for loop.

This, however, loads all the text in with tags. How would i go about accessing each node so i can remove the tags so I can apply a css style to each section??
Using php to declare a few Flashvars. No problems - they all arrive and behave. One of these populates a dynamic text field inside an MC. Simple enough stuff right? But.... when I try to test equality on that text field I get nothing. I've tried EVERYTHING I can think of. The MC is called "fake2". The text field inside it has a variable name of "choice_dyna" and an instance name of "fd2".

I want to test for which button was pressed as little as possible. If I say onClipEvent(mouseDown) it tells me that this can only be used for movie clips. How can i run a simple test to see which button was pressed?

View 14 RepliesI created a button symbol on the bottom layer, then added action script code in the first frame on the top layer. Clicked 'test movie' so that I could click the button to generate the code:
