i am trying to remove this movie clip when i want to play another one, i can navigate to the other movie clips but the sound that is embedded in my .swf files will not turn off off, since i have sound in several .swf files when i play more than 1 .swf movie the sound from the files will overlap each other, i have tried removeChild to no avail/This is the code i am using inside my loader timeline:

My code below loads my preloader dynamically before an image is loaded into the file and when it finishes I want to remove my preloader by the removeChild(); method. Whenever I try to add removeChild(); in my code my file either does not work or I get an error #2025 must be a child of the caller. Where would my code go for the removeChild to work and not have a conflict. I know I probably need some removeEventListeners as well at the bottom: My .fla file is attached it works but I just need to remove the preloader in my code after it loads my image.[code]
View 2 RepliesI have a parent swf that loads in 6 little swfs. However, I have a button which should remove the loaders from the stage, no matter which one it is from the 6. At the moment I can only remove one of them because of the way I have coded the application. So, when I click on the button which is supposed to remove whatever loader is currently sitting on top of my parent movie, it only removes one of the loaders - the one which is named first under my resetAssets function.
I can not have:
removeChild(ldr);
removeChild(ldr2);
removeChild(ldr3);
etc.
Because only one of them is being displayed at the time and flash goes like "hey dude! where are the others you want me to remove then!?" I suppose the whole code has been built up poorly and I should loop the swfs through one loader instead of having a loader for each swf.. Then I could just remove the loader no matter what sits in there..?

So, I have a file where I've added 27 movie clips to the stage using a for loop to cycle through items in an XML document. Here's the pertinent part of the code I'm using, it's AS3:
So, I end up with 27 instances of mini_mc, each named 0, 1, 2, 3, etc.

2- i need the targetName so i can use it in other scripts cuz when it go to keyframe 3 the status diappear

If you dynamically create a parent movieclip, and dynamically add a color picker to each clip, and add an event listener for each color picker, does a removeChild on the parent movieClip remove event listeners belonging to any of it's children?
View 2 RepliesI'm not even sure if the title reflects what I want to do. Here's backstory. I have a movieclip with 5 'holder' movieclips in them. They are my containers for dynamically added movieclips. The parent containers has an instance name of pyramid, the holder instance names are labeled after the 6 food groups, i.e., 'grainholder', 'fruitholder', 'vegetableholder', etc etc...The holders are within the pyramid container, instance names as above, and the pyramid container is added to the display list. I have a addFoodToPyramid() function which adds 'foodMC' mc's to their respective holders. So an [object Apple] will be dynamically added by way of pyramid.fruitholder.addChild(Apple). The function also adds a listener. Heres the call and the function:The call (I will use grains as example) is this:
addFoodToPyramid(grainArray, grainHolder, grainCounter);
And the function is:

I'm currently working on a script which depending on various factors will add different movie clips to the stage. When the factors change so do the movie clips. I know that I can use removeChild(myMC); 100 times and wipe the stage, so I was thinking it would be possible to add all the movie clips to an array and use removeChild(myArray); to get rid of them but I'm coming up with the compiler error: Code: 1067: Implicit coercion of a value of type Array to an unrelated type flash.display:DisplayObject. so obviously I'm missing something. Is this even possible? is there a more effective way to remove Movie Clips from the stage?
View 6 RepliesI'd like to remove objects via removeChild after Tweenlite has finished tweening. But it doesn't really work because my objects are still in the DisplayList.

Will this line
clip.removeChild(clip.getChildAt(0));
completely remove the child of clip at 0 index? I read somewhere you should set to null to all the references to that clip, but I have no other reference in my code. The clip at 0 was added via a regular addChild().
I have an issue where removechild won't infact remove a child. I think its something to do with my dropTarget.parent issues. The concept of the code is that you drag a source onto a destination. When you drop the source onto the destination you will get a text field that says "Hello" or "Goodbye". The objective i want to achive is that once i drop a source onto the destination, removechild will remove any previouse textfields added. This is proving difficult.

I'm trying to build a conditional statement that will addChild and removeChild at different Timer Delays. Before I go any further, I thought, I should mention that I'm usinig TweenMax to ease the alpha of ease Child from 1 to 0 and back during the process to imitate a fade-in/out.
I'm getting issue with only one line - inside a conditional statement.It's running "OK". The movie runs as I want it, but the remove/addChild transitions are not at the speed I want it at. I am getting an error message in the output, but other than that, the movie runs fine.

View 1 RepliesI am trying to use arrays with textboxes. What I initially wanted to do was have 3 textboxes ( a, b and c) and when the user inputs information into the textboxes:
Textbox A: Tea
Textbox B: Coffee
Textbox c: Softdrink
It stores the information into an array that I can later view and call upon these strings inputted into the array.

View 3 RepliesDoes anybody know any reason why I can't use variables loaded from a text file using loadVariablesNum anywhere but in the Var field of a text box? If I try this:
The loadVariablesNum ("textfile.txt",0);it loads the textvariable1=3.14159&variable2=cowfrom the text file, and if I make 2 dynamic text boxes with the Var parameter as variable1 and variable2, they'd have "3.14159" and "cow" show up in them when I run the script. So I know that the textfile is being read and the variables are being loaded.But if I try newvar1=variable1;newvar2=variable2;in my code, and then put newvar1 and newvar2 in my textbbox Var, I get nothing in them. I should be able to assign the newvar variable the same value as variable1, but I can't. trace (variable1);should output the text "3.14159" when run, but it displays "undefined" every time.Every site I have been to says I should be able to access my loaded variable values simply by using variable1, or _root.variable1, or _level0.variable1, but none of these work any differently.
I can assign an instance name to the textbox and then assign a value to that instance name, and if I do that, assuming the instance name is "box")

I have created some input text boxes using AS3. For starters, unless I set the text in the code to = " " you can't type in them. Secondly if I click on each box individually I can type in them. View 3 RepliesI had an onEnterFrame script that would make a cypher of some letters for you. I thought it would be great if I could wrap the code in a function so I could apply it to multiple textboxes at once. Since doing it (wrong!) it only actually does what its supposed to on one of the textboxes. What am I doing wrong?
To make this work you'll need a two textboxes, one with an instance name of text_one and one called text_two

i have a code which i manage to load the xml into an xmlList. What i want to do, and having problems with is sorting out the different nodes inside the xml, so that i can display them in their individual textBox. At this point i am displaying some information in one textbox, but i think i need to change that and go in a different direction. Any quick way to check a dynamic textbox to see if it has text is there a function to do it?
View 4 RepliesI have two input text boxes. I need to enter a number (1900) into the first box then hit the 'Enter' button, then enter a number (50) into the second box right below the first.
After the 'Enter' button is pressed it needs to lock-in the required value, by selectable = false.
My problem is...I can get the first number to work. I type in the number, press 'Enter', it changes the textbox value to selectable = false...everything is good for that part.
But the second number is where I am having trouble, it seems the function is called, but that's it...nothing else happens.
I am completely stuck on why I cannot change my text. I want to change the text of some textboxes via actionscript on the 1st frame of the main timeline.
I have 3 rows of text (Action, Condition, Standard) in 2 columns. I cannot change the text in the 2nd column at all. [URL]..
