ActionScript 3.0 :: Compiler Bug - Var Declaration Function Definition Postcedes External Called Function Execution

Jun 29, 2010

Use Flash CS5 (and AIR, though this does not seem like it would be AIR related) in Win XP 64 I have a MovieClip symbol in my library with the identifier 'Puzzle10Piece10' with the following actionscript attached to frame 1 of the only layer with the following actionscript:

[Code]...

This runs contrary to my understanding of the pre-compiler and code execution order. In my way of thinking, any reference creation and related memory allocation is made when the object is instantiated, and indeed that allocation, unlike C depends not on code order (declaration before use), though this is an order that would satisfy even the C pre-compiler. If I understand the Flash compiler at all, it's not even a question of 'code order'... the symbol is pre-compiled such that for it to exist... for it to be instantiated, the variable would exist before the function would even be 'available' to be called internally or externally. Is my thinking way off, or is this a bug?

ActionScript :: Flex - An Object Returned From A Function Call Changed The Next Time The Same Function Is Called?

Jan 10, 2012

I have an AS3 program that calls a function multiple times. The function must return multiple variables, so I created a class for the function to declare an object containing all of these variables. For example, here's my class:

package
{
public class PER
{
[Code].....

Let's say the calling program calls the function, which returns the variables into data_set1 (where data_set1 depends on input variables arg1, arg2, arg3) using:

var data_set1:PER = function_name(arg1, arg2, arg3);

The calling program does some stuff, then calls the function again, but returns the variables into a new variable name, data_set2:

var data_set2:PER = function_name(arg4, arg5, arg6);

My intention is that data_set1 and data_set2 are different (e.g. not linked together).

My question is, given that arrays are passed by reference, will data_set1 be modified to agree with data_set2 upon the 2nd function call? Why or why not?

Lets say I want to call a function with an optional Object, how do I write that?If it was a String or a Number or some simple data type it would be:

function foo(s:String="Sample String", n:Number=100):void{}

But anything I try with an Object just throws an error. For example...

Code:
function foo(o:Object={x:10, b:10}):void{}

ActionScript 3.0 :: Function Declaration In Recently Added MovieClip

Jul 28, 2009

I am trying to access a function in a MovieClip that has been added to the stage. Right after loading in the function, I create a function that calls the function in the recently added MovieClip. The compiler does not recognize the Function and when I go into debug mode it shows up as null. I've tried declaring the function in the MovieClip using 3 different methods, but I get the same result.

Code:
function Sleep(){
var Sleep = function(){
this.Sleep = function(){

What I find strange is that when I declare the function on the stage, it looks just fine and I can even see it (as a Function object) in the debug panel.

Actionscript 3 :: Match Function Type Declaration With Differing Calls?

private function playSound():void
{
_soundChannel = _soundObj.play();
_soundChannel.addEventListener(Event.SOUND_COMPLETE, nextTrack);
}
<s:Button width="35" label=">>" click="nextTrack();"/>

Assuming the nextSound() function looks the same as playSound, typewise... The button click works fine, but the event listener won't call the function because its sending an argument the function isn't expecting. I can change the nextTrack function to be evt:Event, but then the button is sending not enough arguments, and I can't find anything to type it to that will work. I can make a typed function to call the un-typed nextTrack function from the event listener

public function callnextsong(evt:Event):void{
nextTrack();

ActionScript 3.0 :: Canceling The Execution Of A Function

Aug 25, 2009

I am having a problem cancelling the execution of a function. When I click on the first of my navigation buttons, I have a fade in tween and an image loader load an external image. If I click on the second navigation button befiore the function for the 1st button finishes, the 1st tween and image loader continue to finish while the tween and image loader function for the 2nd navigation button starts. Essentially, there is an overlap. Is there a way to tell the 2nd navigation button to stop all other functions before it starts its own function? I suspect it has something to do with stopImmediatePropagation, but I am unsure of how to put this into the function.

IDE :: Duplicate Function Definition?

Nov 11, 2009

I'm new to flash/AS and trying to create a flash movie that shows a frame (1) which has a 'next' button to move to second frame(2), pauses uses a timer, before moving onto the next frame (3) which then has a 'next' button to move to the third frame (4).I'm building a presentation where the user has to pause to read the instructions on frame 2 before the next button appears.My two Action Scripts are, on frame 1 :

Code:
stop();
next_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,next_btnMouseClickEventHandler);[code]....

It doesn't seem to like me calling the same function in two places (frames 1 and 3) and gives me an error '1021 Duplicate Function Definition' but surely that is the point of a function, that you can call it many times? I have worked around it by calling the button and the function a slightly different name each time it is used but this just don't seem right.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Duplicate Function Definition?

Feb 5, 2012

i know that the problem arises from naming two functions with the same name, and i fixed that. i have also learned that keyframes mean nothing to a compiled swf, and so i cant copy/paste the code and change a couple of variables further in the timeline, i must again rename the functions. Im trying to see if there is an easier way to do thisi have 3 buttons, all 3 of them move the movie clip to a different frame. when the playhead is moved, the movie clip animates for a few frames then comes to a "stop" keyframe. At this point, each button is supposed to take you to a different set of frames, animate, stop and rinse and repeatcurrently, my AS looks as follows (frame 1)

ActionScript Code:
rear_switch.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,fl_ClickToGoToAndPlayFromFrame);
function fl_ClickToGoToAndPlayFromFrame(event:MouseEvent):void

ActionScript 3.0 :: Expected Definition Keyword After Attribute Function

Apr 23, 2009

I have been building my website using a simple mouse event click system that makes movie clips play at specifically names keyframes. it took me a bit, but I got it right and the code was simple. here is an example of the code that works:
films.addEventListener(MouseEvent.ROLL_OVER, btnOver1);
function btnOver1(event:MouseEvent):void{
sketch_5.gotoAndPlay("f_over");
}

Pretty simple stuff. but now I am working on a paid project for someone, and it is a bit more complicated in scope, but essentially I would be using the same code over and over again. it's a glorified slide show. but I ran into a problem. I used this code, which is the same (with different names and mouse event) as the one above.
mcLifeLED.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, Light_Type);
Function Light_Type(event.MouseEvent):void{
mlights.gotoAndPlay("p_life");
}

Its telling me that "Function Light_Type(event.MouseEvent):void" is wrong with this message "1071: Syntax error: expected a definition keyword (such as function) after attribute Function, not Light_Type." I may be wrong, but from what I can read in it, it's telling me that the function I named about "Light_Type" can't be found...
