f you know PHP...then you know that you can create a string variable...and then use the value of that variable to declare another variable. like this:

PHP Code:

<?php$foo = "haha";$i{$foo} = "success";print $i{haha};?>

PHP Code:

Professional :: Query String Variable Based On Coldfusion Template Body Element Id

Jan 25, 2010

I'm using a Coldfusion Dreamweaver template with cfinclude tags.  The header contains a flash movie where I'd like to pass 2 variables via a query string to load the correct image and menu button based on the variables in the ActionScript.

Example:  <param name="movie" value="flash/header_v8.swf?pic=1&button=1" />

pic variable can be 1 - 3 and button variable can be 1 - 7  depending on the each pages body element id.  So the logic would be something like this for my flash movie:

if body id =home, then pic=1 and button=1
if body id =about, then pic=current variable and button=2
if body id =page3, then pic=1 variable and button=3

[Code].....

What's the best way to pass these variables depending on the current page body element id?

ActionScript 3.0 :: How To Call Different Class Based On Value Of Variable

Sep 29, 2009

I'm brand new to actionscript and I've decided to try and make an overhead tile scrolling game. It's been going good so far, but here is my problem:
I have the level data stored in an array, where the number represents the corresponding tile.
I have movie clips in my library called "tile_1", "tile_2", "tile_3" etc.
Anyway, what I was thinking of doing was this:
var newTileContents:("tile_"+lvlArray[i]) = new ("tile_"+lvlArray[i])();
newTile.addChild(newTileContents);
Where, if the value in the lvlArray at [i] is 2, then it will create an instance of tile_2 etc.
But I am not sure how to to type the "tile_"+lvlArray[i] bit properly.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Create A Class That Extends The String Class?

How do I create a class that extends the String class?

Lets say I've created an 'exString' class that extends String.

In my project file I do the following

Code:
var test:exString = new exString();
test = "Hello World";
text.someExStringFunction();

I get a type mismatch in my "Hello World" assignment because Flash sees it as a String and not as an exString.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Shoot An Object And Create An Arc Based On An Angle

Sep 21, 2009

I found a basic example of how to create something that'll shoot an object and create an arc based on an angle. I added a power Bar to it, but I noticed something bad about it.

The way it works the higher the speed is the further it goes and the faster it moves across the screen. This doesn't give me enough control. Because essentially I want fast moving projectiles but I want to also be able to shoot both near and far.

With this current system that's an impossibility.. Can anyone shed some light on how I can do this better? Here's the current way it's being done (important parts):

Code:
bullet = new Bullet;
this.stage.addChild(bullet);
bullet.speed = 1 + powerBar.scaleX * 20;

ActionScript 3.0 :: String To Object Variable?

Feb 15, 2009

I'm trying to format a variable into the middle of an object so that I can pass the entire thing as a parameter to a javascript function via ExternalInterface, but I cannot figure out how to format the data correctly.

I need it to end up looking like this:

Code:
{gallery:'myvar'}

braces and apostrophes included. myvar would be my variable data, which is a string. I tried connecting it all together as a big string, but the javascript function didnt like that. It did accept it if I typed the entire thing staticly as an object variable and passed that. Is there any way I can format it all into a string and then convert the string data to an object? or is there another way to try and accomplish something like this?

ActionScript 2.0 :: Create A String Then Use It To Reference A Variable In An External Text File

There are 28 of these 'title' and 'detail' pairs. The 'title' text is to fill a dynamic text box and the 'detail' to fill another dynamic text box depending on which section the user is mousing over.

My issue is getting the text from the file stored into arrays. For my test loop I keep getting undefined as the stored value, and i know it has something to do with converting a string value to object..

Sep 12, 2011

I am writing a code where I am trying to create a sprite variable in one class, and create several new instances of that sprite variable in another that all need to be on the stage at the same time. For example I created a variable like this, var ball:Sprite = new Sprite(), then drew the sprite in the same class that that variable was created in, then using encapsulation (i.e. _myNewInstance:AddNewInstance = new AddNewInstance(ball)) I am trying to reference that variable and create several new instances of it in the "AddNewInstanceClass" through for loops.
