Feb 17, 2010
I have just started to work in AS3 and stuck in a problem. I have created a fla document named main.fla I have defined the document class as Main which is attached. The problem is preloader shows only when the file is completely loaded. How can I appear the progress preloader for the main file.

I have been trying to figure out the following:
main.swf - contains my photo gallery application
preloader.swf - loads the main.swf file and on COMPLETE event displays it
At the moment the gallery list is in the XML file and the XML file is loaded from the main.swf file. However, as the XML file will grow, I want to preload the XML file along with main.swf file in the preloader.swf and then pass the XML data to the main.swf file so that main.swf file can use this XML data and can create the galleries from there. I am using AS3 Project in Flex Builder 3.

I'm using the sample external preloader file supplied with CS5 as the basis for my customised pre-loader. It's working fine except that once the main site has loaded and is open, the preloader remains loaded in the background.[code]...

I'm using a preloader SWF to load my content SWF and XML file, and when the COMPLETE event fires I'm using the following code to send my XML data to the content SWF -ActionScript Code:evt.target.content.sendXML(XMLData);I then have a sendXML function in the content SWF that picks up the data.This works - but I can't access XMLData right away (it's null if I trace it). But if I set up a timer with a tiny delay which then checks XMLData, the information is there.It seems to be a bit of a dumb way to do things. Has anoyone else got a better solution or a way that will allow access to the variable right away?

I need to preload 2 external .swfs, one containing animation and one containing sound, and I need them to start playing at the same time. As of now I have a general preloader on the main timeline, but as you might expect, after the preloader finishes, there is a lag while the .swf's are being loaded. I thought everything was solved, until a friend of mine looked at it in dial-up, and the preloader just kept looping 10 times before the animation started, so now I'm starting over. Part of my complication I believe is that I'm using loadMovieNum into levels as opposed to loading the external .swf's in a separate container MC (that's what I've noticed most people recommend for this problem), but I tried doing that technique several times with no luck. Right now my main movie, index.fla, has a preloader MC in the first frame, with this AS attached to the clip:
Code:
onClipEvent (enterFrame) {
loading = _parent.getBytesLoaded();
total = _parent.getBytesTotal();
percent -= (percent-((loading/total)*100))*.25;
per = int(percent);
[Code] .....
The clip contains a loadbar, static text (which just says 'Loading'), dynamic text (which tells the percentage), and a 'stop' in the actions layer. In the actions layer within my main movie, there is a 'stop' on the first frame as well. On the second frame, there is this AS:
Code:
var audioOn = false;
loadMovieNum("musicfile.swf", 1);
loadMovieNum("1movie.swf", 2);
stop();
In order that the animation and music starts at the same time, within my animation .swf (1movie.swf), I have this AS on the first frame of the actions layer:
Code:
if (_level0.audioOn == true) {
gotoAndPlay(2);
}
Within my musicfile.swf, there is this AS on the second frame of the mp3:
Code:
_level0.audioOn = true;
My main objective is to be able to use my preloader to preload both of these .swf's concurrently in my main movie so that they may start at the same time.

(NOTE i load the external swf into a MC ''myContainer2'' on the main swf) Here are my codes:

I work for the NPS, and they have an outdated CMS. I have no rights to upload an .html file, or edit one that the CMS makes.SO, I am forced to use their little deal to display my .swf files.Problem: URL...I made an eHike in as3 Flash CS4. It has two scenes, the first scene is the preload, second is splash content and ehike content. The problem is I cant get the preloader to display in IE. I have all actionscript content exported to the second frame, as talked about here: URL...and it works fine in firefox.I have tried many different ways to load the preloader.there is a simple text field for the percentage, and a simple 100 frame animation. preloader_mc stop();[code]The CMS lets you decide in the popup window if it is resizeable or not.This works in IE (stopping people from resizing), but not in firefox, people can resize it. Is there any way to disable the resize in AS3?Again, I understand that your supposed to export the .html file with these settings, but I have no permissions to upload or create new .html files.

this is how i attached the sound in the main swf, im using AS2
Code:
var x:Sound = new Sound();
x.attachSound("soundtracky");
x.stop();
x.start(0, 0);
I used the loader and the progress bar components.
The loader loads the main swf fine but the music doesnt play like this.
if I preview the main swf the music plays but with the loader it doesnt.
my first attempt worked with the preloader but by inserting the mp3 straight in the timeline.. I cant use it like this because I also need a mute button and I didnt find a solution.

I have a full flash website which is broken down into:
- Main movie which contains navigation and interface components
- Several content movies which are loaded into the main movie on demand
- An intro movie which is around 3MB in size; its a full CG movie.
At the moment the main movie preloads and then the intro movie preloads afterwards in a sequence; like so:
Main Movie > Intro Movie > Content Loads
There is a skip intro option which will skip the intro movie step and jump right to the content load once the main movie has loaded.
My client wants me to do something which is proving very difficult and I am starting to wonder if its even possible as searches on the net have given results which don't really work properly.
Here is what I need to do:
When the main movie is requested, its preloader appears which it has a load bar and a "skip intro" button. The difference being, this preloader will be loading the main movie AND the preloader; which the load bar representing both movies load progress.
To complicate matters, if the skip intro button is pressed, the preloader needs to drop the intro movie from the equation and just account for the main movie & thus skip the intro; straight to the content.
The way I have tried to do it is to have a preloader code in the intro which sends the total size and bytesloaded back to the main movie which deals with those values, adding it onto its own size. This is proving cumbersome and although appeared to be working, isn't working propery.

I'm trying to set up a preloader to show the load progress of the main swf, which has all of it's assets embedded. I found the factory class method as described on bit-101, but no load progress ever seems to show. The swf loads fine, but the bytesLoaded is always equal to bytesTotal and therefore the preloader is never called.
[Code]...
This correctly calls the Factory class first, and then instansiates Main and calls init(). But as I mentioned above the preloading is never shown as it seems to be loading everything straight away.Is this a problem with the way I'm embedding the images or because I'm testing locally?

I'm trying to listen for events sent from my main movie swf from inside a preloader shell swf.Inside Preloader.swf, I load my Main.swf in the traditional way, with a loader object and I listen for progress events on that. These progress events make my preloader bar scaleX increase, like normal. But, I have an XML file and an image that load inside of my Main.swf as soon as it is loaded. I would like for these unloaded bytes to be shown in my Preloader.swf before the Main.swf gets added to the stage.right now, I am sending the totalBytes from the XML file and the image to my Main.swf document class, which, in turn, dispatches a custom "PreloaderEvent" that holds the total number of bytes.
In Preloader.swf, I add an event listener to the loader ( which holds main.swf ), listening for that PreloaderEvent.Can events be heard in this manner and is this the best way to be preloading this type of file ( one where main.swf loads in the first frame, then starts loading of external images after the swf is running ).I'm just not sure how to get all of those extraneous bytes into one location for my preloader to see at the same time.

I just followed Lee Brimelow's 'Preloading in Actionscript 3.0' tut - it was easy to follow and implement. However, when I upload my files to my webserver to test, the .swf that I'm loading begins to play before the preloader completes. Actually, to be precise, the main swf has an audio file in the background that begins before the preloader completes. The stage of the main swf doesn't appear until the preloader completes. Prior to this, I was using a 'scenes' method of preloading, that didn't have this problem, but I kept running into a 1009 error, so thought I'd try a different method...
Here is the actionscript for my preloader:
Code: Select allvar l:Loader = new Loader();
l.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(ProgressEvent.PROGRESS, loop);
l.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, done);
l.load(new URLRequest("CelebrateV4RPLY.swf"));

When importing external swf's, would it be better to have the preloader code in the external swf or in the main movie? I've seen threads about this everywhere but I don't see the difference. Once the movie pops in it starts preloading right? Is there a faster result when the preloader is in the main movie?

I've tried to approach this from several angles, employing several of the tutorials, attachments found in various threads, etc, and nothing has worked. I've been testing a file from my server and I'm getting varying results using different browsers. IE8 is displaying the file as intended however Firefox and Chrome give me an annoying little glitch. The problem lies with the way my preloader reacts using the MovieClipLoader class.
I have a main file with subsections where swfs are loaded in to blank clips. I'm using a preloader to display their progress and the preloader displays an animation by percentage increment up to 100%. If the target clip is not yet loaded then the preloader functions as intended across all browsers. However, if I revisit an already visited section where the preloader should not display due to the file having been already loaded, I'm getting a brief flicker (around 1 frame) of the preloader in a random state of load progress. Again, this does not apply to IE8 - everything there seems to be in order.It's as though it's firing onLoadProgress for a brief instant instead of just going to onLoadComplete.

I have an FLA file with two frames. On the first frame I have nothing but a textfield and some code to do the preloading. After it is done preloading it does gotoAndStop(2)
On frame 1 I have:
stop();
stage.scaleMode = StageScaleMode.SHOW_ALL;
//Import the required assets
import flash.display.*;[code]....
In my publisher settings I have export to frame 2. My problem is that the preloader won't display until 100%.
P.S. For testing I put a large image file on the stage in frame 2 and the result is the same.

I need a preloader to include an external .swf (iPhone_334x500.swf) that is dynamically added later in the timeline. Currently, the preloader goes to 100% and then begins to load the external swf before completing and going to frame 2. Rather than just appear to sit at 100% for 20 secs while it is still loading my external swf, I would like to include the external swf's load time in the preloader data.
This is my "preloader" code on frame 1, which is empty except for the AS. (Just a basic bar and percent preloader.) I included all of my code just in case, so please ignore the font embedding and masking if it makes it easier.

I have a looped sound and some components in my main movie (scroll bar) which for some reason is really bogging down my swf and causing the preloader bar not to show up until like 46% or something ridiculous.So I am trying to solve the problem by having a preloader swf as suggested by Kode in this thread. However, now all my targeting is messed up in my main movie. Everything that was _root has to change but I can't tell what to load it into. I tried using _parent, _parent._parent, _root.container_mc (which is a blank movie clip created in the preloader swf that main is loaded into after the preloader is 100%) and others but nothing works. Even the simple looped sound which was originally just _root.backsound.start(0,999) can't be targeted.how to target things on my main stage based on the preloader swf?

I'm working on a little project in Flex that's an application to upload images to a server. Since it's a pretty lightweight application (~40 kb in release version), I would like it to display instantly when the html page is loaded. But somehow there's a delay of up to 1-2 seconds before it shows up. I think it is a delay actually between the load and the display of the application, and I believe it could be removed.
how to shorten/remove the delay. First, I tried to disable the preloader, but this did nothing. There's actually a delay between a preloader shuts and the application displays (it is around 500 ms - 1 sec). My next guess was to write a custom preloader class to display at least an image of the application (even though it wouldn't be clickable, but at least something).
