IDE :: Thumbnail To Larger Pic Display?

Nov 28, 2009

I am in desperate need of some assistance (again). I have created some thumbnail images (as buttons) that need to open to larger images once clicked.

Currently I have it set up to open a new browser window but this is not what I want.

Herewith existing code:
thumb1.addEventListener( MouseEvent.CLICK, goto_thumb1 );
function goto_thumb1(e:MouseEvent):void
{
navigateToURL( new URLRequest( "thumb1.swf" ), "_blank" );
}

I need the larger pic display to be restrained to the size 600x400 and preferably to load in front to the main website (like a popup).

Currently the images load in through actionscript. Is there a way to amend this script so you can specify that a thumbnail clicked links through to a url, like you would with a normal button instance rather than loading the image. Here is a link to the file and tutorial. The actionscript is on the top layer within the file.[URL]...

Java - Upload Image Thumbnail To Server Without Uploading Whole Image?

Aug 27, 2009

As far as I know, what I ask here isn't possible, but I thought I'd ask anyway in case I'm missing something.

Suppose you want to let users upload JPG images, and these images are scaled into smaller icons and the original images are always discarded and never required again. Is there any way that would commonly work in most modern browsers that would let the user select a single image on their hard drive, have that LOCALLY turned into a thumbnail and upload the created thumbnail to a server?

In a case where the server just needs a small image, it would be wasteful both in user time and server resources to proceed uploading the whole image, only to immediately discard it. It would be much better to just scale it on the client.

I can imagine three options. Just plain HTML/Javascript, using Flash or using Java. If this were possible with Flash, that would seem like the best option. But reading flash.net.FileReference documentation, it seems that you can upload a file from the HD yes, but you cannot look inside the file you are uploading. On the other hand, if you enable "can access local files" in Flash publishing options, it seems that you can then no longer access the net, so that doesn't work.

With HTML/Javascript, it is possible to load images and display them on a <canvas>, but if you try to access the pixels of these images, you get security violations, so that doesn't seem to work.

Java I hesitate to use, because only 96.52% of my users have it installed, and the file upload dialogs I have seen implemented in Java (at Facebook for example) have not worked well (unresponsive interface). I wonder though if Java is the only thing allowing resizing images from local HD?

ActionScript 2.0 :: Thumbnail Images Don't Display?

May 30, 2007

1) I bought a photo gallery that works well, but when I use it in a project I'm working on, the thumbnail images don't display, but everything else does including XML loaded text so I'm pretty sure it has to do with the actionscript and the level it's targeting.

2) I also can't figure out how to shrink the size of the full view photo which seems to also be loaded somehow with action script to a blank MC, but it may not be in the script below... there's a lot of script here that I don't understand.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Can't Get Image Title Mc To Work

Sep 13, 2009

I am working on a Photo gallery using AS2 code. The movie imports XML with attributes, and displays both images and text in dynamically created mclips.The thumbnails and main images work great, but I can't get the image title mc to work.The XML is fine, there are no typos, and as coded below the title attribute displays fine - BUT - it also displays a second copy of main image in the text movie. Obviously because I am referencing "myURL" in the text movie loader.But this is the only way I can get the title text to display.[code]The movie opens, but when I click on the thumbnail I get a compilation error that says "Error opening URL '...'" and gives the path to the folder because it treats the XML attribute for the title text as if it was a link.I just don't know how to reference this mc correctly.[code]

ActionScript 2.0 :: Title And Image Description

Jul 30, 2010

I bought an xml flash template and i am trying to modify it.In main.fla file there is a layer named functions. At this layer there is actionscript code where i saw this part:[code]When i push the image gallery from the main menu, then the image_gallery.swf loads. There, i have 2 categories with photos, each of whom loads title and description of images from website_xml_imagegallery_xml/category1.xml and website_ xml_ imagegallery_ xml/category2.xml. My problem is that whether i open a photo from one category or from the second category, the title and the description remain the same as the first category's. I figured out that the title and the descrption of the first photo of the second category is the same as the title and the description of the first photo of the first category and this depends of what i am using at the last line of the attached code:images.load ("website_xml_imagegallery_xml/category1.xml");So, if i write category2.xml instead of category1.xml, then the first photo of the first category will have the same title and same description as the first photo of the second category.It seems like each category cannot read from its category.xml. Look at the xml files as well.

Currently i've written an xml file that lists the names of the images which are then loaded into a container within a scroller.Is there a way i can load external images and then write some AS that figures out how wide each thumbnail image is?
