ActionScript 3.0 :: Empty Interface (relates To Design Patterns)

Nov 11, 2010

quick opinion question for anybody who cares to sound off. I am doing an implementation of the Command Pattern right now, and thought I might try defining my command structure almost entirely around interfaces. I am running into a problem however with empty interfaces. Let's say I have the following two interfaces:

ActionScript 3.0 :: Combining 2 OOP Design Patterns?

Mar 9, 2012

I have a question on how to combine 2 OOP design patterns. First off, I created a MVC pattern that loads XML into the as3 classes. Now, I want to add another OOP design pattern which is the OBSERVER pattern. How would I call that in the MVC pattern?

To be more clear about this, I created a MVC pattern design of a widget that loads the data from the xml file. I want to input a graph bar observer pattern to the widget. How would i do that?

Design Patterns - Particular Flex Framework Can Bring More Advantages For This Case?

Apr 7, 2011

I had experiences using Mate and Parsley. But for now, I'm using none.For instance, I'm using observer and singleton patterns like following.

RegisterView.mxml implements IRegisterAction interface
function onBtnRegisterClick(){
var action:RegisterAction = new RegisterAction();[code].......

This is my interface IRegisterAction.as

function registerCallback(customer:Customer ):void;

My question is "What additional benefits I will get, if I use a particular framework ?".

Flex - Design Patterns For Adobe Air/Flex Applications?

I'm going to write an application with the Air/Flex-Framework. I'm looking for Best Practise and general Design Patterns for designing software especially in Air/Flex. I have experience with this framework but never had the pleasure to write a piece of software from scratch.

For instance: I stumbled across lots of software written in Air/Flex with nearly infinity global vars Most of the software I saw was not object-oriented How can I pack the asynchronous method calls nicely?

I'm familiar with general design patterns by gamma. I'm looking more for advise in designing good quality software with Adobe Air/Flex.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Design Class To Create A Mock Interface For A Game?

Jan 30, 2010

This may seem like a noobish question (and it is) but I have created some AS code to help assist in a project of mine in a level design class to create a mock interface for a game. It works fine on the first screen but once you hit any button and go to the next and then try to go back, the code breaks and I am not sure why. Ive tried multiple things to get it to work but nothing seems to help. The code I am using is

ActionScript Code:
storybtn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, start1);
function start1(MouseEvent){
gotoAndPlay(2);
}

After twenty key presses play a different movie.In case that doesn't make sense this is a little more in depth description, The game is a boxing game and when Key "0" is pressed a movie clip plays(showing the boxer punching) that part is fine. I am trying to have it to where after Key "0" is pressed 20 times, it will que a movie clip to kick in(the boxer that is being punched will fall down).

Java :: Building Music Visualizer Using Fractal Patterns

Jan 30, 2011

I am interested in building a music visualiser using fractal patterns for my final year project. I have googled quite a lot on it and I know a bit about fractals, however I was wondering what software would be used to 'animate' the graphics. I know Java has a drawing API (AWT and Swing) - but probably no the best for the animation factor - on the other hand there is also Flash that has new capabilities within as3 to produce such an effect but if this app was to traverse into mobile development, Flash wouldn't be a great choice.

Doing Interaction Design With Flash

Feb 28, 2011

I've been trying to teach myself flash for a couple of weeks and am totally lost. I have had experience with programming in the past, so I understand logic, etc, but I really am not grasping this forced time based system.What I need to do seems pretty simple. I have a jpg of a washing machine front panel. I need to be able to put some transparent "buttons" over it, and have some areas "light up" when the buttons are pressed. So far I understand that I have to work in a chronological setup, with key frames for each state of interaction, and use buttons with some kind of gotoframe action script. what I can't do:

1. get the background jpg to stick to the stage. it apparently has to be either a symbol or a layer?

2. make transparent buttons. in flash catalyst I can just set the opacity to 0, but I'm not sure how to do this in flash pro.

I guess those are the pressing issues. I had tried to import the jpg as a psd background, but then I had to put the button on a separate layer, and it was always either behind the background, or I had to have it's action refer only to the timeline of it's own layer and not the background.

UI Design In Flash Games?

Mar 21, 2010

Background: I've been coding in VIM/C++/OpenGL for a long time.I've come to realize that this (VIM/C++/OpenGL) isn't the way to learn about programming fancy/cool-looking/futuristic UIs; and that the design of such UIs belongs more so in the artistic/designer world of Flash.

Anyway, I currently have a machine with MacOSX. What software should I install? What book should I read to learn about the artistic/design side of these futuristic UIs? [It's okay if the tools to design them are mouse clicking + graphical rather than coding based].

Question: what software packages + books to read to learn about creating fancy-looking / futuristic UIs in flash?

IDE :: CS4 Proper Way To Design A Button With Mc In It?

Aug 3, 2010

s there a possible issue in the way the button is made not coded?I am using Flash CS4. My buttons seem not to work. I do not think issue is in the action script (I am scripting in 3.0).Here is the way I make the button. I add a movie clip on the stage on the over state ( so if you were to double click on that movie clip a new time line would open), at the end of that movie clip there is a simple stop(); code on its own line. I do not add extra frame on the over state.Then I assign the code to the button and of course cross reference its name in the properties and everything is matching up. Just in case here is my code:

floralyte_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, onClickFloraLytePopUp);
function onClickFloraLytePopUp(event:MouseEvent) :void {
gotoAndStop("61");
}

All of my buttons work fine through the Up, Over, Down, HIt stages without the problem. The functionality works fussy, some of them I have to click twice to go to the specified frame with the UILoader, some do not work at all and some work.I double checked and all of them seem to be done identical.

I am doing some academic research on Flash and I would like to find what is Flash the most used for, or what it is the best at, in designing web sites. I would need some quantitative figures, charts, stats to illustrate this research. I have found many websites presenting the Flash player penetration but I am looking at the actual use of Flash (in video, animation, User Interaction, ...). For example, "96% of the video on the web is displayed with Flash (3% JS, 1% HTML5 video tag, ...)" ; or "vector graphics are mostly created with Flash, rather with SVG or JS".

Flex :: What Was Design Decision Behind ItemPendingError

Jul 29, 2009

Flex has the notion of lazily loading data. It has a class named ItemPendingError which allows developers to handle it when an attempt is made to access data that is not yet available aka "pending".However, looking at the documentation it's clear you have to add try/catch blocks around your code wherever you have code that might cause an IPE (ItemPendingError) to occur.I'm curious if anyone knows why it works this way. I'm not sure what the best solution might be, but having to willy-nilly add in try/catch blocks to catch the error and then register a Responder with it feels bad and not very clean. And the fact that you sort of have to exercise your application to make sure you've caught all the possible places where the error might occur is also lame.Is there some other way or better approach that I haven't seen/heard of?

Flash :: Design A Website In It / Script?

Jul 23, 2011

So I have this project I'm working on and I'm trying to build the website part of my project. I have experience with Flash AS3, but not so much or none with JavaScript. My co-workers are telling me that they are almost the same and you can just build the site in JavaScript. But people can have JavaScript turned off, and not everyone uses Flash.

I'm having difficulty knowing what to use to build my website...by the way, this website is generally an application. It's going to have a menu with features and stuff. I figured I can probably do HTML and PHP, but there's some features I need that will be dynamic. I really want this site to be available to as many people as possible.

Php :: What Design Should Be Used For Holding File Information

Jul 31, 2011

I want to create flex/actionscript directory view for my files with php/mysql. I have some ideas that I want to share:

1)I am thinking of creating table (in mysql) "files" and another table "folders", when user loges in i will require all data from "files" and "folders" where Username = 'something'. But the problem is, I will create a lot of entries inside of tables. For example if I will have 100 users, and each user could create 100 entries (files or folders) it means that i will get 10000 entries inside table.

2)My second idea, and I think more safe way of doing it is creating table "users" where will be set id, username, password, ... , files, folders. In files (text format entry) will be listed information about files, and they will be dividend by "*" symbol like this:

id*file name*size(in kbytes)*path*status
example:
15*test.exe*150*/root/*private
16*test2.exe*200*/root/folder1/*public

[Code]....

Now here is only 3 file info but there can be more than 1000.
