ActionScript 3.0 :: Flash - MASK An External .SWF Movie?

I am using external .SWF movie on stage by using the following code. I want to mask some of the portion of this movie. How can I mask an external movie?

I have entered the code on on Layer2 and created a MASK (Circle shape) on Layer1 and selected the MASK option by right clicking on Layer1. But It did not work.

I download "scrollbar_vfinal_2004 from this site and use it my own movie but when I test the movie, the text is not showing. Without text lay mask, the scrollbar works.

what i am doing is to make something along the lines of the "scriptable mask" tutorial Inigo was kind enough to put up.My idea is to have a large mask behind the whole of my flash site, this masks a colour image with a black & white one (nothing tricky). The image I am using is actually 5 separate images combined, and each is a pic of certain parts of the site.I also have a very basic set of buttons along the bottom... each corresponding to each section.
All I want is to set it up so that when I mouse over the buttons, the _x of the mask moves to correspond with the correct image... really very basic... or so I thought .If anything it should be easier to do than what is in Inigo's tut (where he uses the _x of the mouse to move the mask)... i just cant seem to get it to work with a nice easing effect (its easy to get the mask to simply snap to each coordinate, but I need it to smoothly move).

AS3 Movie clip does not have .setMask() method, but it has .mask property. What is the syntax to set a mask on movie clip A (mcA) using movie clip B (mcB) mith .mask parameter in AS3?
mcA.setMask(mcB); // does not work in AS3 (no setMask() method any more)
mcA.mask = mcB; //does not do the job either

I have several pngs I need to load as masks. The user will be making different selections that requires these to be external images. I've managed to get the png working as a mask just fine when I physically place it on the timeline and assign cacheAsBitmap=true to both it and the mc to be masked. But when I try to load the png using loadMovie... it no longer behaves as a mask...

[FMX] I am having trouble loading an XML file on an external server into my flash movie when it is uploaded. The data loads in fine when the flash file is on my local computer with the xml file on a server. As soon as the flash file is uploaded the XML data will not load in.

I want to use semi-transparent mask on external swf for smooth transition. I'm using

it doesn't work... what am I doing wrong?

i've a problem with the datagrid component. i have a main swf with a mask. this main.swf loads the sub.swf into the mask. when my sub.swf has a datagrid object in it, it shows me the component, but the content is empty! and i can also trace the content. so the datagrid isn't the problem. the sub.swf runs perfectly in standalone mode ... but not if i load it into a mask!

so I have the gradient mask set up going on in a external swf called "rates". In the main timeline of the main swf "cwsite" I load "rates" into a empty movie clip entitled "windowloader". Unfortunalty when I preview the whole site, everything loads but the gradient mask isnt working. If I just preview the rates swf, the mask works.This is flash player 9 with AS2. Here is my gradient mask code in the rates swf:

I have 6 frame labels on my stage and on each one I have a mask animation, it's the same animation but on each frame label loads a different image, basicaly the image just fade's into the mask. I was hoping to try and do this with actionscript, just not sure how. Would also like to load the images externally too if possible.

I am creating a full site in flash. The main movie has an empty movie clip in the middle of the movie to load external movies as the user clicks on the links. Everything has worked good so far as the linking has only gone 1 level deep. However, when I created a new external movie, and had buttons on it for another external page, but yet to open in the main movie, I can't get anything to work. Example.... In the main movie, the user clicks on the archive link, and the external archive movie is loaded into the main movie. Now, on this archive movie, there is a button on it that links to a another movie (say text effects.swf). However, when they click this button for text effects, I can't get it to load into the main movie clip and replace the archive movie that was currenlty there.

I have masked the video clip. The masked clip is working fine. But the Actionscript 3, which contains 2 more SWF external movie clips not loading those files. Once I remove the mask they start working.

I'm putting a mask on an image that is being animated around the stage which works fine, but when i change the mask using as3 the mask stops following the image and stays in one place.. while the image moves around the stage... is there a way to force the mask to stick on the image?

i have a 2 recangle movie clip with w:500 h:400 named (p1 , bs) ,and a i wanted to Mask those 2 movie clip with action sctrip, with a w:1000 h:1300 Recangle, named(Mask)i can do it if using the layer Masking, but i wanted to use action stricp to mask.

but i cant do it , i cant mask those 2 movie clip at the same time ,it only work on bs.mask = Mask.i intention is to Mask those both movie clip,any idea what is going on ?

I have a flash menu (125 px x 600 px) on the left of a webpage. It consists of (15) buttons each of them havin' a onMouseOver-->getURL. When the mouse enters the flash movie (that is the menu) there is a mask button that moves along the y axis and when you move to a button in the menu the mask moves to that point. When you click on it it opens the URL in your browser. Now the problem is that when you leave the flash movie (menu) I want the mask to go to the upper part of the movie (menu).How can I do that?

I have Flash CS4 and I'm developing an RPG game. My goal is to dynamically change the weapon/armor the main hero has on according to what the player has on. I think the term is paper dolling. Basically I want to be able to set a point in which a graphic (movie clip/w.e) can be place permanently and I can load images to it via actionscript 3. I want the point to stay on the hero becuase I plan to move him and animate him and I want to be able to have it so that all it takes is me loading an image to the hero so it will basically "mask" over him. Hope you guys understand what I'm saying, I'm having a hard time figuring this out.

Is there a way to mask a movie clip in a way that alters the width and height of the object? I have a child movie clip that is larger in width so I'm having issues manipulating the width, height and coordinates proportionally of the parent movie clip.

I want to mask a movie clip with another one, the mask is a dynamic square which expands to the whole scene.Anyway, I wanted to now what is the relation between the layer of the masked movie and the mask itself,(should they be at the same level or not?) I use the above script:

I have a startDrag function set up on a loader and mask that when the mouse is down on the loader it drags, when not it doesn't. There is also 2 buttons that control whether mask1 or mask2 is used. What i would like however is when the mouse is down - the area of the loader outside of the mask is visible but only by about 10/20% alpha, that way the user can see where all the image is while dragging. Is this possible? Full code can be seen below and i have attached the zip with the .fla file:

Is there a easy way to scale the part of a masked movieclip that the user sees to a specific height? I want to ignore the masked part but scaleX scales using the dimensions of the mask.I'm assuming you can do this using bounds and getting the difference but am having trouble figuring this out.

I've got a 3D tween I would like to apply a mask to but am having a difficult time doing so. I'm guessing this is as a result of the tween that is happening on the Z-axis..?if this is the case then setting a mask movie clip to one increment higher on the Z-axis and setting the mask MC's layer to Mask should work; it's not, however.

maybe point me towards a better way to mask. png file is way too big. I have been using the mask layer option to create my own mask around a jpg image by drawing around it on the mask layer. There has to be a fetter and faster way to do this. Is it possible to maybe have a specific color range have an alpha value of 0. Similar to green screening whereas If I put the item I want to clip on a green background flash will auto take out the green for me. and by auto I mean action script maybe. I think this can be done but im not finding it.
how are these guys clipping these images [URL] they have the movie clips set up where the black background on the 3 layers of shoes is getting masked out. When I go into the shoe movie clips I see there is a black background but it just disappears when I go back to main timeline.

ive gotten one movie clip to mask another in the actions frame but i cant seem to be able to mask the flames which are a shape with a movieclip in this as file. im not getting any errors but the mask isnt covering anything look near the bottom at s.mask=mask_mc; there are about 20 "s" shapes spawning per second if that has anything to do with it
