Im working on a project which includes a text editor in Flash which works perfectly but im trying to alter the code so the editor works over several input boxes rather than just one. Using Flash CS4 btw. Here is the actionscript im working with. If someone could give me some pointers as to how to allow the code to edit text in multiple boxes i would be eternally grateful.

I'm trying to get a Twitter API to work. I've managed to code most of it, however I still cannot seem to add additional necessary text boxes which will be used for the Twitter feed. I've managed to do one, but have not figured out how to do more than one, as I'm bombarded with errors when I do try. I've got a flash project with an empty content clip instance called content_mc. Depending on the button pressed, it attaches a movieclip from the library with the name contentDisplay_mc under content_mc. Now the structure of these subclips are pretty much the same with a textbox called Display. The code on Frame 1 of main timeline:

I am wanting to have several separate blocks of text appear in the same spot on my stage. Here are the specifics. I have 8 buttons each controlling their own block of text. When one of the buttons (button1) is clicked its text appears. When the user clicks another button (button2) button1's text goes away and button 2's text appears. The text boxes are sitting in my library and not on the stage. What AS functions do I need to get this to work? A Case/switch or For/while or just an if else? I would like to keep from using event listeners(which may not be AS 2 anyway).

View 6 RepliesI'm Trying to develop a small game where the user chooses from a range of boxes of the left of screen and can drag 3 of them separatley to 3 holding boxes on ther right. each box can be dragged to any location and the order is not important. Once the 3 holding boxes are all full I want a new button to appear. I completed a tutorial and I've got one box working perfectly but no matter what i try I can't get it working with multiple boxes and locations. Below is a list of the instance names of the movie clips plus my actionscript. I've attached a link to the flash file.

While in Design mode in Flash Builder 4 (gumbo, beta 2), is it possible to edit multiple states at once? In the "states" window, it would seem like I should be able to shift-select multiple states so changes made will affect all the selected states, and if all are selected it will not add the state selector to the property in the mxml tag. No?

I am a PHP Developer, I know nothing about Flash and with all respect I do not want to know anything about. I develop a CMS which provides the backend for a Flash front end. Data is passed to the template via XML. Everything is grand. The problem is with text formatting. Currently we use the dodgiest flash text formatter. It doesn't work half the time, its horrible but it - just about - does the job. I have been tasked with replacing it. I would like to bring in CKEditor or TinyMCE but when I do I have 2 major problems.
1) Pre-existing HTML messes up the display in TinyMCE due to its invalidity (I can solve this.)
2) The TinyMCE HTML breaks the flash template because of the valid HTML.
I have an interactive assignment in which the students have to enter text entries into an input box. I have it working to where when the enter the correct answer it will tell them, or if it's wrong. I need to be able to tell them when they get to the last question, after they have gotten all of them correct, that they got all the questions correct. I know how to do this with a drag and drag interaction but not text entry. can someone point me in the right direction?

But this object that I am accessing has text over it. The problem is it works until the the mouse that hits the text over it. Then it drops down.[code]

I understand that I need to assign a variable to each record as it comes through the PHP file and that Flash needs to know which variable to assign to which text box. So, in that respect I have added a counter to the PHP script (it is performing correctly)

I need to make it so that my client can edit some text files that are displayed in a frilly little font with shades and all that "mainflashpage.swf" accesses to display it. I heard you can do a lot of things like this with php. I know NOTHING about php. So is there any way that I can use flash to edit a text file? I remember about using void at the end of declaring a function if your not returning data.

I have a variable set up for the article dynamic text box and I want the navigation part to be filled in via text file. so I need to find a way for the information that's fed in to the navigation part to functions as buttons and when they are clicked a variable should pass though flash telling is what story to display. for instance if you click stereohype then storyvar == stereohype. see what I mean? I could do it all in flash but i'm trying to make it where I don't have to touch the flash file after it's completed and everything can just be manipulated via text files with html php xml you name it, what ever works.

View 3 Repliesi'm trying to edit the text of a Flash project/website. The flash project structure is as follows:
- Main.fla
-- Section1.fla
-- Section2.fla
-- Section3.fla
-- Section4.fla
The Section3.fla file contains the text I need to edit. I notice that the text is visible inside the library:
"/Sprites/sprite 11" file
and
"/Text/text" 10 file
But when I try to edit the text 10 file I get the message: "This symbol is imported from a Shared Library. If you edit this symbol, it will no longer be imported. Do you want to continue?".
If I click Yes and edit the text and replace the Section3.swf with the new one, the website still shows the old text.
I used to have a little text panel (that sat with the color, swatches, and align panels) that I was able to open up and edit text size, color, underline, etc with. It had a much better text editing ability then the properties panel, seeing as the properties panel does not even bother to allow me to underline text or to highlight and edit a single word in a whole text box. Now I don't have it, I can't find the damn thing anywhere, and I want it back. How can I get it?
View 1 RepliesI have a 15 frame composition, a new image on every frame. Each image is the same H x W size as the stage. I can click "Edit multiple frames", and I get the selector/slider thing above my timeline which sets which frames are to be included in the editing operation. I widen it to encompass all frames and then select all frames. But, when I attempt to center up all frames on my stage (Modify-->Align to stage) or set the x y to "0", "0", only one frame cooperates- the one on which the timeline marker is on. The other ones don't comply, even though they are all selected.
View 1 RepliesI'm using CS4, and I'm attempting to align animations in flash. To make it easy, lets say I have two animations which start in a standing position, facing east. One of these animations (in a movie clip) is on fame 2 and the other is frame 11. The only way I can find to do it - without flicking between frame 2 and 11 constantly - is onion skin. The problem is that when i turn it on, it shows every frame - I can change the start to frame two, but the end will not go back past whichever frame I have selected - 11 in this case, and so it it too messy by far to see what I'm doing. Is there a way to allow me to see only frame 2 in that ghost style, while I edit frame 11? Even if its not onion skin, it doesn't matter.
Second to this - I cannot seem to work out how to edit multiple frames. By that, I mean that frame 11 through to 19 need to be aligned by the same amount, and yet even when I select all those frames, only one is affected.
I have 30-40 movie clips that I want to reshape. They are all identical except for color and name. Is there a batch way to duplicate the entire library but change the shape without going into each one?
