ActionScript 3.0 :: Flash Lagging On Slower Machine?
Feb 5, 2010
I created this flash object, which preloads the file on the first frame before continuing to play, yet on slower machines it moves much slower then the 30 fps it is supposed to play at. The file is 1.2 MB in size. Using actionscript 3.

I have a dashboard I created using Flash CS5 using CS5.5 and ActionScript 3.It seems that while this dashboard is running, the FPS gets slower and slower over time (over several hours) I am thinking that I might have a memory leak but I am not sure how to find out.The project is a Flash Projector exe that loads 8 independent swfs. Each swf file essentially calls a web service and gets XML dataThey then dynamically create a bunch of TextFields, assigns an event listener (Event.ENTER_FRAME) and animates across the screen. When the TextField goes off the screen, I clean up the Text field by removing the EventListenerremoving the TextField and setting the TextField to null.
I'm using Flash MX, but these movies might have been saved for Flash 4 (what I used to use). I'm using IE and I have tested on other browsers and it seams to have the same problem. I have two small flash movies playing as part of my site design but when I scroll, this clearly lag creating a 'white box' where the movies should be until they move. I'm pretty sure the lag is with them two movie clips. My site is at [URL] (it's on the main site that I have the lag). They are Flash 4 Swfs.
I have created a simple flash game similar to shooting balloons. You can find one example on this site. My game is working fine on windows in all browsers(locally & on server) and it is also working fine on Mac in safari & firefox but game is completely unplayable in chrome on Mac.Is this because of memory leaks in my game or is this the problem of chrome on Mac.And how can i trace memory leaks in my game. It is coded in AS3 using Flash CS5.
ever since i got windows 7, my drawing wacom tablet lags on flash cs4 when i use the pencil tool and i don't know why it's doing that and i cannot see what i'm drawing because of this lag. I have updated my video card and my wacom tablet driver to windows 7 and still no luck. It worked perfectly on vista but i do not want to go back to vista.
When I'm watching larger videos (> 15 min) on the internet via flashplayer or divx, after some minutes, the video quality begins to decrease (like the video starts lagging). When I now press the pause button and resume the playing after a short period of time, like 10 seconds, the video quality is again like normal for another couple of minutes, but then the video quality again decreases, so I have to pause again for some seconds.
My question is, from a software design point-of-view, why does the pausing stop the video from lagging? I thought it could be because the software gets time to refresh its caches, but I would be really interested in the correct answer.
i am making a game involving a number of balls that move across the screen. Everything works fine and dandy when I play the SWF on its own, but when I load it into another SWF, animation become increasingly choppy with time.
I was in the middle of developing a Flex applcation, and then I recently switched from Windows XP to Mac. My app is noticeably less responsive on my Mac than on Windows, and today I proved it's not a hardware issue, because I ran the App on my Mac and a Window XP on Virtual Box side by side, and IS much more responsive on XP. Things like repainting in response to window resizing, selecting/unselecting list items, scrolling up and down(I do have complicated list-item-renderers). Has anyone seen this as well? Is flex/flash just not as well supported on Mac? Or are there tweaks I can do to improve performance on the Mac?
Ive been working on a game on and off for a while now. I've been extremely conscious with the performance because in my book a slow game is worse than no game at all. I even wrote a profiler class so I can really pinpoint any slow code. All this time Ive just been testing the game in the Flash CS3 environment by hitting CTRL+Enter. And everything runs quite smoothly. But today for the heck of it I actually published the Flash and ran it in my browser using the generated HTML file. In the browser everything runs slow as hell! The animation is extremely choppy, and sounds play up to 1 or 2 seconds later than theyre supposed to. This is absolutely unacceptable! Ive tried it in Firefox3 and Internet Explorer 7, and both are very slow compared to the Flash dev environment
I have built an application in flash, it is rather a large application that runs pretty smoothly, however it is a long list of graphs that run further than the application window so I use a vertical scrollbar and a mask to display them. The problem is everything becomes choppy the further you scroll down, any Tweens or movement and the framerate in general just appears to be much much lower.
When you get to the bottom it is unbearable although there is the same amount of movieclips and same amount of detail throughout the scroll, so I don't see why there should be this massive performance hit for going down a bit.
So i have a fake preloader going... doesnt actually preload, but just does the 'action'. my issue it gets to 100% way too fast. As its not really loading anything, how do i slow this down so its takes about 3 seconds to "complete loading?"
Im trying to write the codes for buttons that make a Square rotate faster and slower. I tried hard but it did not work. how about a slider to control speed of the square_mc. can some1 give me the code.
this is the code:
addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, startRotate); function startRotate(evt:Event):void { // Call function rotateSquare
I'm running my app in core i7 pc in full screen, it lags, but when i run it on my i3 laoptop in full screen, it work just fine... may i know what is the problem? *they both using the same flash player version
I'm sure this isn't the greatest code in the world but here it is. I'm trying to get these movieclips (6 of them) to respond better. Right now, if a user clicks on one, they all blank out, and only display the x in the checkbox after the mouse rolls out.
I am loading an external .swf file onto my stage. This is the script I am using:
[Code]...
It loads everything great, but it lags so bad when it plays!!! Am I loading everything prperly? The external .swf file is just under 200 kb, but that should be ok, right? there is a way to prevent lagging. maybe a way to ask for more ram from the computer?
I have this SWF that is pulling videos from YouTube through their API. Everything is working nicely until I go to another browser tab or cause the window the SWF is in to lose focus otherwise (largely by using any program aside from the browser). When I return to the tab/window that the browser is playing in, if I have been away for anything over like 20 seconds, the time text that indicates where the play head is plays catchup jumping over 3-5 seconds at a time. While the video is not making these jumps, what is happening is that any buttons for controlling the video become unresponsive until the time text actually has caught up with the current position in the video play head. Thereafter all functioning for my other buttons (play/pause, full screen toggle, and sharing) returns to normal. I am using a Timer that calls every millisecond.
I need to play a swf on a machine that does not have Flash installed. I know I can open it in a browser, but is there anywhere I can download the external (from the browser) swf player?
I have an issue whereby a new font (FFF Forward variant) installed on some machines works perfectly in flash (cs5.5) but on one machine causes an instant crash when the Type Tool is used.I know the font is the core of the problem but am unsure why it works on some flash installations (same versions) and not others?
I have tried every conceivable way of uninstalling/installing the font (even cmd prompt and safe mode!)I have flushed preferences files (obv inc typesupport folder)I have re-installed flash!I have even tried copying the prefs files from one of the working installations to the troublesome machine.I have run font verification and repair tools (nexus font, font creator, font val, font doctor, font lab...)No joy, still crashing
I have a videochat app (as3) developed in CS5, when I test the movie (ctrl+enter) it compiles and shows no errors, then I upload the file to the server and does not work at all. the xml paths are perfect, in fact when I go to the page on the machine with FLash CS5 it loads fine, but from a friend's computer does not work at all.
I am recording video using Flash and Red5 server and am doing it well,But when Red5 server is installed in another machine am not able to access it from my machine through LAN.am using another machine IPAddress to connect. Example:"rtmp://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/echo" When i access in my local machine using "rtmp://localhost/echo" it works fine.
I am working on a flash application on my local machine. It involves reading and writing to an xml file. I am facing a lot of security problems because of flash sandbox. In order to get around this I have installed php+apache to call an external file that writes to a file. I have created the crossdomain.xml and put it in the root of the web server on my local machine.
However, I can ONLY run the flash file in the flash program AND IT DOES WRITE TO A FILE. If I publish it as a html I still get the security error msg. Now another requirement of my program is as the user interacts with my flash application it changes an xml and the page should refresh to show the changes. But because I can't run my flash program as a html file I can't refresh the damn page! I'm half thinking of setting up a vm machine as a pretend server to get this damn thing working. Then I at least have the server + client model.
Is it 'elegant' solution for a website which displays loads of images, to save users waiting time and preload images one by one, always to the same object (so the machines memory won't fill up) and then on request load the image once again (so the browser will use a cache)?
Several months ago I created numerous flash files that use a wingdings checkmark. Recently I had to update these files, and now every single one of them displays as the Arial equivalent (umlauted u). It shows as the umlaut in FLA and in SWF. Selecting the unlauted u, looking at properties confirms the font is set to wingdings. Copying a wingdings checkmark out of another app and pasting into Flash, it immediately overwrites to the umlaut. In fact, changing it to any font just makes it a slightly different umlaut.
The easy question is, "What changed between when it worked, and when it doesn't?" and the answer is I'm not sure. It's the same Flash installation, same machine, same OS, etc. I've tested this with co-workers. Those who open the exact same file on XP machines see the checkmark. Those who open the exact same file on other Vista machines see the umlaut. I have an XP machine to my left, and a Vista machine to my right, and I'm seeing both a checkmark and an umlaut off the same FLA.
Is there a reliable way to access the client machine's clipboard using Javascript? I continue to run into permissions issues when attempting to do this. How does Google Docs do this? Do they use Flash?
We are deploying a media management system within a local network. FMS will be used to serve the media within the local network. Since we will only have max 100 users and we have a powerful dual 4 core xeon and the plan was to install IIS and FMS on the same machine. But now I read that there will be a conflict because the embedded Apache server that FMS installs will fight for port 80 with IIS.
So one possible solution: I've been reading in the Adobe docs that RTMP is far more efficient than tunneling through HTTP, so if we make sure all client machines allow RTMP (firewall exception) can we then change the configured Apache port and assume that Apache will never ever be used?
Heck in this case can we configure FMS and choose not to install Apache at all and be OK?
