ActionScript 3.0 :: Flex Load Image At Runtime
Apr 7, 2009
I have an image component:
Code:
<mx:Image x="6" y="8" id="image" />
I'm allowing the user to choose some image and load it at runtime.
Code:
image.source = "../images/temp.jpg";
Why doesn't this do anything? I just see the little error icon like you see on a website when an image cannot be found. But I definitely have temp.jpg.

In Flex, how to assign swf as image source at runtime, not embedding it.[Bindable] public var myImg:String;<mx:Image id="intImg" source="{myImg}" width="96%" height="96%" />In my application, I fetch image url dynamically from a web service call, and assign it to "myImg". But until I don't get the response from the web service call, I want to show a loader swf in image control above. I assigned something like:myImg = "assets/AS3.swf";and the path of swf is correct, but it doesn't show up.UPDATE:The code I've shown above works perfectly in a Flex 3 app but the swf does not show up in a Flex 4 app. Is it because Image control has dropped the support for swf in Flex 4 ?

I've seen the Loom project, but are there any alternatives that are more mature (and actively developed)? I am looking for something that would allow load-time weaving of pointcuts into existing binary code at runtime with the AVM2 runtime.
Has any work been done in this area?

I need to load and apply CSS at runtime in my Flex app. I know that the adobe docs say that you need to compile the CSS before loading it but I would like to find a work around. I know that you can set individual styles like this:
[Code]...
I know that the adobe flex.text.StyleSheet class has a CSS parser but I could not find a way to harness that. (Is there a way to get that source code?)

I've this huge problem loading a symbol from a swf file in the application at runtime. I want to load it and pass it as a argument to another class where it could be used further. The symbol name is passed on from the array collection from the "o" object. Can anybody please tell me what's the right way to go about it.

I've created an application that includes a number of Modules and uses Parsley framework. Ant is used to build the application.Recently I thought of using Resource Bundles and implemented it in the system by creating a locale/en_US folder under the src. I added a portal.properties file with all my strings defined.In my modules, I added the metadata
<fx:Metadata>
[ResourceBundle("portal")]
</fx:Metadata>
In the ant build file, I added the below lines within mxmlc.
<locale>@{locale}</locale>
<source-path path-element="${myapp.flex.app.locale}/{locale}"/>
<include-resource-bundles>portal</include-resource-bundles>
The build works fine and when I deploy the application and open it in my browser, I'm greeted with many errors thrown by the Flash player.But if I dismiss the messages, its working fine. My strings are replaced with the values in the property file, but how do I stop the runtime errors being thrown up?I get the below error.
Error: Unable to load resource module from portal at MethodInfo-637()at flash.events::EventDispatcher/dispatchEventFunction()

I'm currently working on this website (http:uel...) and I created a little gallery. When you press the image it becomes the background of the website. Now this has some problems if the background is white and you look at the other pages again, you can't read the text any more.I would like it to be when you go back to another page, the background changes to it's original one. So basically I'm looking for the page (component?) load event or something alike, but I can't seem to find it.
CreationCompleted doesn't work for this, because when you navigate to it the second time it's already created, this the background doesn't change.I'm setting the background like this:
Main page:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<s:WindowedApplication xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009"
xmlns:s="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark" [code]....
I also have the problem that the images become stretched, because I can't set the fillmode NOR can I center them,

I am implementing drag and drop from a DataGrid onto a List in a Flex 3 AIR application. I would like to have the drag image be a photo (jpg) referenced by a String field in the data grid item, named 'imagePath'. I'm having trouble getting the image to show up during dragging. I have triple checked that it is not because of an invalid path to the image. I have tried Image's source() and load() methods in every way I can think of. I am calling this method 'dragCurrentToList(event)' on a mouseDown event.[code]This works perfectly if I set the image source to the following bindable variable but I don't want to hardcode the image name.[code]

I am using Flash CS4. I insert and build a SWF file just fine. In the component inspector there is a preview entry but there is a note that says it is only for development not runtime. It says to use ActionScript and the Export option. I have used the Export Option to create the thumbnail image but I have no idea how to setup the ActionScript.

I have an issue with downloading an image from a URL that is not getting updated at runtime. I'm using a URLLoader to download the file initially at the start of the app from some URL, then later on there is a call to the server which re-compiles the image into something else. After that the image is being downloaded again from the exact same URL, but as far as I can tell it's not getting the updated version, but is getting it from the cache that flash creates.
If I restart the application after doing all of this it gets the correct image when it downloads at startup, but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get it to download the correct image at runtime. Does anyone have any idea how this can be accomplished?

I wrote these functions which I use in conjunction to scale down some BitmapData and save it as a PNG. However, the scaledImage.draw(originalImage, scalingMatrix, null, null, null, true); line with smoothing set to true does not have the intended smoothing effect when I save the bitmap data as a PNG using the second function. The resulting image file is not antialiased at all. Is there anything I'm doing wrong here?
public static function scaleImage(originalImage:BitmapData, size:int):BitmapData
{
// Calculate the scaled size.

I'd like to learn the correct way to design flash sites in the direction of the Kirupa tutorial found here:Although that's a hellava lot more complicated than what I'm doing now, I see the point of minimizing the layers in my movies as much as possible.So, I've begun using attachMovie to load my movies to the stage at runtime. This has dramatically reduced the layers I had in my main movie. Now, the site has just two layers: one for actions and the other for invisible buttons. The invisible buttons sit exactly where the movie clip buttons will appear at runtime.I'd like to know how I can load the buttons at runtime, basically reducing my main movie down to an actions layer. Is this possible or even recommended as good practice?

I am facing difficulty in doing as below:
I have created a MovieClip symbol, called imgOne_mc, out of a PNG image. I have also added an empty MovieClip symbol (with the name imgContainer) on the stage. Within the code, inside a Class, I want to attach imgOne_mc to the imgContainer, at run-time. I tried it in following way:
imgContainer.addChild(imgOne_mc);
But, it ended up with the error "Implicit coercion of a value of type Class to an unrelated type flash.display: DisplayObject".

isnt there a way to get an FLVPlayback component to display its FLV's first frame until it has enough frames buffered to start playing the video? I can add a preview to it that i can see while im authoring the flashfile the component is in, but it just shows up as a white frame for a second at runtime.. id like to get it to display its first videoframe instead of that. The component inspector assures me there is a way to do this using actionscript, but leaves me hanging on exactly how its done, or where to discover such information

I've been thinking about the possibility of using Flash to create designs through ActionScript and tools that I could use at runtime. Is there any way of saving the stage elements as an image that I can use for print output later, preferably as a vector image?I realise the better option would probably be to learn how to script in java script or another language that can be used with a drawing application such as Illustrator, but I'm curious about what sort of options I have to do it through Flash.
