I'm failing repeatedly when trying to get a navigation system to work. Breaking the code into more chewable chunks is my latest idea, but there is still a ticklish problem: I need to activate a handler in an swf I load with the loader class. I get a compiler error that says: Scene 1, Layer 'Layer 1', Frame 1, Line 63 1061: Call to a possibly undefined method MakeIt through a reference with static type flash.display:DisplayObject.

whenever I try to call the removeMovieClip function in a callback handler, it just doesn't work! Maybe I'm tired, or I've just missed something this is apparantly obvious. In my code exert below, is just a simple script that attaches a movie clip to stage (square_mc) and creates a duplicate instance. When the component button is clicked, I want the original movie clip to be deleted, but nothing happens!

I've written a pre-loader for my game, it uses Loader, URIRequest and LoaderInfo to display a bytes left/total counter as the main game SWF loads - this all works fine.

However what then happens is that the main SWF constructor is called, so the game starts running "in the background" while the pre-loader finishes off.

I moved the 'start game' code from the constructor into a different function but I'm now left with the issue of how can I actually tell the main game SWF to start?

You can't do loader.content.go() (where go() is the function I want to call).

How can I access methods of a loaded SWF? Or is there another way? I tried dispatching a custom Event from the pre-loader, but the game SWF just never heard it - but is this the right way to go about things?

I really want to pass some bits of data from the pre-loader into the main game SWF too, but until I can figure out how to make them both talk I'm totally stuck! Is there a way the game SWF could reference any variables set by the preloader?

these are a couple of functions within a custom class i'm working on. why in the top function that when i call init() on the loaded swf, it works, but when i call reverseType() and normalType() in the second function, it doesn't work? i get a "TypeError: Error #1006: normalType is not a function." in the debugger. i've made sure those two functions are public in the document class, but nothing seems to work.

I've been working on this extremely annoying problem for over 3 hours!

Alright the basics: A parent movie, and a loaded movie.

Inside the parent movie on a frame where the loaded movie is loaded, are two functions[code]...

I have multiple functions and multiple ways to call them because I'm trying atleast for ONE of them to work! I have twisted this code, changed the functions, and tried so many different ways to debug this problem! And finally, I am showing you my most simplified way of testing this problem.

Normally, when I load my parent movie and once it loads the loaded movie inside it, if I click the button- it should call one of my functions. Then I should see the traced message in my output. Instead- nothing happens.

I have a swf that should be able to load another swf in runtime. Then I would like the loaded swf to call a method of the parent, loader swf, like this:

But when I compile it, it throws this error:
1119: Access of possibly undefined property closeForm through a reference with static type flash.displayisplayObjectContainer.

I've tried:

I don't have the original file so I can't remove the fullscreen command.

how to call a button. I have a main file ("AS3Build.fla"), which imports an xml file, and imports different swfs depending on which node in the xml is being referenced. One of the swfs("slide_01_03.swf") I'm importing has a button("btn_01_01") that I'm having trouble accessing. First of should the script for the button be in the swf that holds the button, or the main file that will be importing the swf? I've got it in the swf currently with a trace file to see if it's recognizing the click. So far not luck. So I'm starting to think it should be in the main fla, and be referenced something like: this.loader.addEventListener.btn_01_01. This doesn't seem to work either though.

I'm trying to use ExternalInterface.Call to call a JavaScript function to launch a lightbox window. So far I have this:

AS3:

JavaScript:

I get the alert but I can't get the lightbox window to display. When my as code makes the ExternalInterface call I get what looks like a page refresh and a blank browser window.

I'm having trouble simulating a click call to a button(displayObject) thats generated via an API call( youtube as3 API). I have not seen any mention of security reasons as to why I can not simulate a click as long as something is registered with a click handler. Basically I checked to make sure the button made is listening to a mouse click event with:

trace(generatedButton.hasEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK)) which returns true

I proceed to than call this:

generatedButton.dispatchEvent( new MouseEvent(MouseEvent.CLICK, true) );

And nothing happens yet if I physically click the button it works. Is there some security measure that prevents something from being fake clicked unless its origin is strictly from the system mouse?

I even set a timeout call on the click function and moved my cursor over the button and let it fire in case it was an issue of the mouse having to over the object but still nothing. I am kind of stumped at this point.
