ActionScript 3.0 :: Know External Data Is Loaded Completely?
Jun 16, 2009I'm facing one problem while reading an external xml file..my execution is going on before file loaded completely.

View 2 RepliesI´m loading some MP3 from an external URL. I need to wait to completely load the mp3 and then start to play it. Do you know how can I check when mp3 loads completely? This is my code:
var s:Sound = new Sound(new URLRequest("url.com/file.mp3"));
var channel:SoundChannel = new SoundChannel();
channel = s.play();
I am experiencing an interesting problem...I have a URLLoader instance with a Event.COMPLETED listener. I can reproduce behavior such that when the listener is called, there is a discrepancy in the amount of loaded data.

I'm trying to load data from an external textfile, called "config_flash.txt". It works perfectly if applying the fetched data is done within the same function where the loading is done. However, I would like to use the fetched variables in other parts of the script.
Here's what works:
Actionscript Code:
var varLoader:URLLoader = new URLLoader(new URLRequest("config_flash.txt"));varLoader.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE,
[code]...
So, basically I want the variables/values defined inside the function to be available anywhere in the script. The error that the second code snippet causes is as follows: "1120: Access of undefined property text1/text2".
I am trying to load several swf files into various containers. In one scene I have used the following:
createEmptyMovieClip("container1", 1);loadMovie("MC.swf", "container1");
And I want to wait for it to load complete before moving to the next scene and doing the following one...
createEmptyMovieClip("container2", 2);loadMovie("MC2.swf", "container2");
Play movieclip once FLV is completely loaded?
View 2 RepliesI've looked around and tried various examples that I've seen, but none of them seem to work with "simulate download".It doesn't seem like the swf does anything before it's completely loaded. It doesn't even display the background, just plain white.It also doesn't execute any code, so the event listeners I've seen used for preloaders don't work until the swf is completely loaded.Do I need to somehow designate a section of code to execute before the swf is fully loaded? How do I do that?
View 5 RepliesWhen i load an external swf file it looses quality and renders blurry. But the swf itself (the external one) looks perfectly fine standalone. Now i ask myself, is this really a flashbug or what the heck is it?
Because i wrote an elearning player wich references hundreds of this files, its not very funny to see the quality dropping. To get some meat for you, i created a small site, wich should make the problem much clearer:
Click here and explore the strange bug
I have created a fla document named main.fla I have defined the document class as Main which is attached. (rename to Main.as)
The problem is preloader shows only when the file is completely loaded. How can I appear the progress preloader for the main file.
Is it possible to use JavaScript to detect whether a .swf file has loaded completely within a web page?Assume that the .swf file is pulled from a 3rd-party website and we don't have access to its source code.
View 2 RepliesI have been getting errors when i try and make a call or get data from something on the main stage (like a volume slider) from an external class.
I have flash gallery with an mp3 component. The MP3 component features a volume slider movie clip that i manually put on the stage.
When i try and reference this from a file that is not the main as3 file it comes back as not being defined unless i set a small timer to kind of put my external class to sleep, then reference the slider.
Is there a way to fire off an event when all the components on the main stage are fully loaded?
So I am having a problem with the flash file at this site: [URL]
Everything is working fine, except for the preloader, which only seems to load after the entire file is 100% loaded, which leaves people who visit the site staring at a black screen for quite some time... The code on the preloader frames is as follows:
frame 1 (which has the background for the preloader/ actual load bar etc}
var percent:Number = Math.floor(getBytesLoaded()/ getBytesTotal()*100);
textBox.text = percent + "%";
textBox._alpha = 80;
[Code]....
Also, if you want to check out the actual program just click when you get to the main screen and click to create new shape (mouse x and y change opacity and speed respectivly) I'm using actionscript 2
I have been able to unload the SWF (emptyMC.removeChildAt(0) ), or so I thought, but if there is sound playing in the loaded SWF it continues to play after the loader with the old SWF is unloaded. I know there is the unloadAndStop() method but I don't know how to incorporate it into my current code.Here is what I have so far. And mind you, eventually there will be 20 pages in the site, let me know:
ActionScript Code:
btnMENU.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,loadHome);
btnAPPT.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, loadAbtDoctor);
[code].......
I'm working on a project in which I'm loading an external AS2 swf file onto the main stage.
To load the movie I'm using this code:
Code:
var request:URLRequest = new URLRequest(filename);
var loader:Loader = new Loader();
loader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(ProgressEvent.PROGRESS, loadProgress);
loader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, loadComplete);
[Code]....
Thing is, when I use removeChild on the movieclip, I can still hear the sound of the swf file, which means, it wasn't really unloaded when I removed the movieclip containing it.
How can I completely unload the swf?
I seem to recall that Loader.unload() could once be used to stop loading a swf before it had finished loading. I can no longer find documentation or the blog where I read this. Perhaps it was an unofficial feature. Anyhow, IModuleInfo, returned by ModuleManager.getModule() has an unload() method. If I want to halt loading a Flex Module that is in progress, do I just call iModuleInfo_instance.unload()?
View 1 RepliesOk, so I have tried and tried to figure this out. Of course in the test environment everything works beautifully, but when I test my swf on my site, thats when the sh*t hits the fan.
The problem is my buffer bar wont show up until the video is completly loaded. In flash however, it loads across as the video is downloaded, like it's supposed to.
Go to my site to see what I am talking about. The loader bar appears uder the progress bar, exactly like on youtube. www.blankensteincreations.com
Here is the code that controls it.
Code:
mcVideoControls.mcProgressFill.mcFillGrey.width = nsStream.bytesLoaded * 710 / nsStream.bytesTotal;
Of course that is wrapped in a timer funtion which, I add, works fine.
FLA is attatched as well as the code below so you can see how it works in flash.
Here is my full code:
Code:
const BUFFER_TIME:Number = 8;
const DEFAULT_VOLUME:Number = 0.6;
const DISPLAY_TIMER_UPDATE_DELAY:int = 10;

I have read many many post and I don't find the answer of how to remove completely a swf load external.Every time I load and unload I see the windows memory task manager and see that the memory increase and don't reduce when remove child.
this is my code:
var oneLoader=new Loader();
bt1.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, swf1);

i need to create a progress bar which will increment while the html page is loading in mobile web browser for flashlite 3.0. how can i create a progress bar which increments and disappears when the html page is loaded completely? i also need to add icons like reload , cancel etc in the go to address bar,where user enters URL. is there any source code available?
View 3 RepliesI have developed a touchscreen application that works perfectly fine except for the memory issue. Basically, the touchscreen app works kinda like a website with navgation on the side and content displaying next to it. I separeate each section into external swfs, and load each one up when it is needed, thinking it would reduce memory used on the pc. But unlike actionscript 2, AS 3 would not remove the external swfs from the memory. You can remove it from the stage and you won't see it, but the swf will still stay in the memory! So... as you navigate through the app, loading up all these external swf, even I do loader.unloadAndStop();, the swf is still there, and they just keep piling up in the memory as you navigate from the app. After leaving the touchscreen for a day or 2, having all these users naviage through it, all the external swfs will just completely consume all the resources and freeze the pc.
View 1 RepliesI have three AS2 swf files main.swf - very simple swf file with three buttons (home,btn1, btn2)
1.swf - an swf file that is launched by the pressing of btn1
2.swf - an swf file that is launched by the pressing of btn2
Home button simply removes the loaded swf and shows btn1 and btn2.
If I launch main.swf and click btn1, then 1.swf loads fine. I click home and click btn2.. 1.swf still loads! When I close main.swf and reopen, click btn2, then 2.swf loads fine. I click home and click btn1.. 2.swf still loads! WTSDLFKJ@##@$
This is why I ask how to completely unload the swfs? I've tried every different way to unload Google could show me.. unload, unloadandstop, etc. I've tried loading 1/2.swf as a movieclip and URLRequest. I've tried using two separate containers and loaders. Still the same thing.. the first opened swf is the only one that will open unless I close main.swf, reopen and then click the OTHER button.
I should note that 1/2.swf are flip book style applications that load external .xml data.

View 1 RepliesI have developed a small website in flash 8 ...
- The website has content (text) which is loaded externally
- The images are also called externally with 'loader' component
- I have added a preloader at the beginning of my file
But still when I loaded it on the server....the images and the content is coming slowly. Some way to load the whole file completely at the time of loading (including the external content)?
Is there any way to embed Flash completely in HTML, without reference to an external SWF file? I ask because I would like to send an HTML file as an email attachment that the recipient will open in a browser and fill out as a form. The last step is that they will copy the result to their clipboard, paste it into a new message, and email it back. I cannot reliably copy to the clipboard with JavaScript because of the security issues, but there are simple Flash apps to add that capability.
I know I could just display the response text (which will be Base64 encoded) to the recipient and have them copy/paste, but it would be nice to provide this small convenience to them. Also, so you are aware, the text is often too large to include in an email using mailto. Yes. This needs to be done via email. The users have slow, occasional satellite email access and no other data connection to the interwebs. To make things worse, I cannot make them install anything. It is a difficult situation.
I'm building a website that has a main swf with buttons that open external swfs which completely cover the main swf. The external swf has a close button to return to the main swf. My problem is when the external swf is open the buttons hiding underneath on the main swf are still active. I want to add code to the button on the main swf to disable itself while opening the external swf. BUT, I also want to reactivate them when I close the external swf. Is there code I can place on the close button of the external swf that will communicate to the main swf to reactivate its buttons? It seems so simple but this is the trickiest part for me.

I'm trying to read some data in from a sql source, some of which contains double quotes embedded in the text. I know I can strip the doublequotes, but don't want to go that route if I can avoid it. I've tried replacing to double quotes with hex codes before passing the text via parameter to my flash file, but the text string always cuts off at the hex code, the same as if the double quote were present in the string. For example:This is a "text" stringreplace double quotes with hex: This is a x22textx22 stringesults when read into flash: This is a <remainder is dropped>Yet if I type the same text string in a variable in flash, the string displays the double quotes properly:
View 1 RepliesI will be creating a program to use for data entry. I'll be studying zebras in kenya and I won't have the internet there as I'm recording the data. I'd like to be able to send the data I generate in flash to an external text file. I understand I need some sort of script to do that, but is this something I can run just on my machine? (I'll probably make the data into xml format).
View 1 RepliesI have this code inside my flash to name my navigation menu. Now I want to put this outside flash and load it via XML. How do save my different arrays into a variable for later use in my code?
In my nav fla (what i want to load from XML):
Code:
// MAIN MENU ARRAY
var mm_array:Array = ["MAIN1", "MAIN2", "MAIN3", "MAIN4"];
// SUB MENU ARRAY

[URL]I have: main.swf (a menu) and I have module.swf (content)If you navigate to Subsea Wellhead Systems/SS-15 BigBore II and click on that I have it load an external swf which covers most of the parent. So far so good. My problem is unloading the loaded 'Child' swf with the button provided on the loaded 'Child' swf.below is the code I used to load the file but I cant, for the life of me, find a way to unload it.
var bigboreLoader:Loader = new Loader();btnbb2.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP, bigborecontent);
function bigborecontent(event:MouseEvent):void{var bigboreRequest:URLRequest = new URLRequest("moduletemplate.swf"); bigboreLoader.load(bigboreRequest); stage.addChild(bigboreLoader);
I am certain it requires the Child to communicate with the parent somehow but I am at a loss. If I could get a bit of advice or a link to something deal with this, it would be a big help. I just need to have my links load my modules and the remove them when the close buttong is hit on the loaded swf. I promise I have done searches and I admit I have found asnwers but still they are not working. I found the code below:
Main FLA:
function removeF() {
removeChild(bigboreLoader);
}

I spent almost a week trying to figure out how to unload a currently loaded swf using its button and loading a new swf... I have three files, a main.fla, file1.fla and file2.fla. In my main.fla, I have a code which loads the other two files. If i will click the "unload" button in the file1.swf, I would like the main.fla to unload the file1.swf and load the other file, file2.swf. Here is the code to load the file1.swf:
