ActionScript 3.0 :: Maintinain Object Type Persistence In SharedObject?

Aug 22, 2009

I wrote a little script designed to save and load data using the SharedObject class. This is the meat of what I came up with.

Code:
public function saveGame(fileName:String, saveData:Object):void
{
var saveFile:SharedObject = SharedObject.getLocal(fileName);

[Code]....

Now, this little script works perfectly when I'm dealing with ints, Strings and the like. However, a problem arises when I try to save a custom made Object dedicated to holding data for another class structure. It goes through the saving process just fine, but when I try to load it it gets locked into Object. I can't access any functions and all (gameData is DataType) comparisons evaluate to false (even when testing against the dataType I saved it as).

Actionscript 3 :: Application Design For Data Persistence Over Unreliable Internet

Jan 26, 2012

I've an Flex actionscript 3 schedule reminding app which talks to a web-service through the internet over wifi. The problem is the wifi connection is unreliable and there are frequent dropouts. The schedule which the app reminds doesn't change very frequently. So instead of calling the web-service for finding the schedule every day/hour the app can store the data locally. Also, if the user updates the schedule on the app, the web-service is updated that the task on the schedule is complete. This data can also be stored locally so that when the user uses the app next time and there is an internet connection, the app can update the web-service.

Actionscript 3 :: Make An Object Network Serialize To A File, Not A SharedObject?

Oct 10, 2011

Currently, I do serialize my model object to the SharedObject instance:

try {
var mySo:SharedObject = SharedObject.getLocal("sig");
mySo.clear();[code]....

Likewise, I load the saved model using the SharedObject instance. Works great.Ultimately, I'd like to serialize it to a file - which fails. Here is how:

var fp: File = File.applicationStorageDirectory;
fp = fp.resolvePath( PREFS_FILENAME );
var _prefsStream:FileStream;[code]....

The complementing read operation suddenly breaks and reports missing bytes.In fact, I can't image how FileStream / _model.writeExternal() is able to serialize, since it needs to somehow know, that a new serialization operation is about to start. If it doesn't know, it won't be able to determine, which object instances are left to serialize.Thus, I image that my concept is completely wrong or I missed how to initialize the serialization operation.I'd be happy to read the raw ByteArray from the shared object and write it to a file. Unfortunately, I didn't find a method to retrieve from a SharedObject a ByteArray of a certain property, in my case mySo.data.model.My question is loosely related to this one: Why does delete( DictionaryInstance[ key ] ); fail?

Actionscript 3 :: Graphic Object BitMapData Type The Same As BitmapData Type?

Dec 29, 2009

The title might be a little misleading. Look at my code and I will explain

public static function loadTile(tileDir:String = "empty"):void
{
if(tileDir != "empty")
{
tPoint = new Point(0,0);
tRect = new Rectangle(0,0,30,30);

[Code]...

I am trying to do tiling with sprites. I want my tiles to be interactive, so that is why I am using the sprite object instead of using regular bitMaps to represent my tiles. You might be wondering why I wouldnt just use graphics.beginBitmapFill(tImage); and graphics.drawRect(0, 0,tWidth ,tHeight ); to pick out the tiles I want to use. Well reason being is because it turns out that drawRect() first and second parameters actually alter the location of where the actual sprite sits at.

So if I set the x and y properties of the sprite to x = 20, and y = 20. then I set my drawRect(20,20). it actually adds an extra 20 pixels to my x and y coords of my sprite. And I know the reason why, I just need to know a better way.

Actionscript 3 :: Get The Object Type From A HitTest?

Jul 10, 2010

I'm coding a really simple 2D platforming game in Flash using AS3. I'd like to define two different types of terrain surfaces that the player can walk on based on classic platforming elements. Type1: the player can walk on, and if the player jumps, they will hit their head on it and bounce back to the ground. Type2: the player can also walk on, but if the player jumps and hits their head, they will simply pass through the surface and not bounce back to the ground.

I am using hitTestPoint to resolve collisions for this. My question is: What would be the best method to test for what TYPE of ground I am colliding with? Each ground type has it's own Class associated with it in my Flash IDE and all the different terrain surface types are in the same movie clip on the stage.

Currently I'm testing to see if it hit one type of ground surface, then i'm testing if it hit the other, and then based on those results, I process what I want to happen. This seems to work okay right now, but I'm imagining that I may want to create more than 2 types of ground to collide with. For example, moving platforms. It seems like the code will start to get complex

Eg.

if(_groundType1.hitTestPoint(_player.x, _player.y, true))
{
if(_groundType2.hitTestPoint(_player.x, _player.y, true))

[Code].....
