ActionScript 3.0 :: Moving A Class With Keyboard?

I made a symbol and attached a class to it, and now I want to move the symbol according to which keyboard-button I press.. I've googled several times, and all resulted in some vaque tutorial from which I couldn't underatdn anything at all.

I'm making a two player pong game using flash mx and I followed this tutorial to get to grips with moving objects (the bats) up and down. I got through the tutorial fine but it doesn't make the objects move smoothly. they jerk then pause before moving normally, which would be no good for the game. I found this game on newgrounds which has the pads moving as I'd like them to.

I'm making a game in AS3 and I need to move an object from left to right using the keyboard, it works fine but the problem is that when i push left or right the object moves but not in a fluid way, I assigned to movement to KEY_DOWN but first it moves the ammount of distance i gave up then pauses for half a second and then I moves fluid in the direction i gave. Now my question is how do I need to program it so that when I push the button it move fluid in that direction immediately instead of taking a little pause?

I posted this question before , but never got an answer that I understood or could get to work - so now that I have something to show I thought I would post it with the question again.

Here's my situation, I'm making a stick fighting game, where this stick figure fights others. I have the basic moves done inside a mc. I just tried to use Kirupa's tutorial on how to animate that bug with the keyboard arrow keys, but it didn't work. It moved the whole screen. All I want to do, is when you press the left or right arrow keys, the movements (the mc's name) move to the left/right. I attached the .fla. The basic controls are the left arrow animates it left, the right animates it right, and the enter key makes him punch.

i have a BasicMap.as that takes an Array and populates itself with the MC objects passed to it by a String reference.it inherits from Sprite, and so it just places the objects on its self.then i have a class that inherits from that class, and gives a little more functionality to it, but in order for it to do that, it needs to place the objects not on itself, but instead inside a holder Sprite, so here is my problem:

I have some AS2 code for responding to keyboard input - it was great because it added friction, thrust, gravity etc... ie: it made the movements very real and added playability which is key in engaging players. On passing it into classes for OOP I don't seem to have got it right. maybe somebody knows a nice tutorial for the same.It was Emanuel Feronato's tut in AS2

I was trying to make a tank game in which I can move the tanks, let them shoot each other, etc... I insist on creating external classes with Flash Pro cause I am used to OOP language like Java. I created a Tank class which represents all the tanks. Here is the code of this class:

The problem is that the action listener seems never get called when I press any keys. the trace() is not called. But I tried to add a mouse listener just to test and it worked. So I guess its the Keyboard event listener class's problem? Everyone I see on the web uses stage.addEventListener(KeyboardEvent.KEY_DOWN, move) approach.

Using FlashDevelop, I've got a bit of code to detect keyboard events. The problem is, if I run this code from the main class (Main.as) it'll trigger the event, but not if I go to another class.
For instance, I have the main class, and it has this function

There's no message from either class. If I put the event in the second class, nothing happens. All the other events besides keyboard events still work.

I'd like to know what AS3 code is necessary to have a scrollable menu of buttons using the Keyboard class. I am creating app similar to a Yahoo widget, and I would like for the keyboard to simulate a remote control in the prototype. The keyboard's directional buttons (up, down, left, right), the "backspace" and "enter" button would be used to navigate. I have found AS3 code on how to move objects using keyboard commands (up, down, left, right, back), like in a game, but not how to move the target area from one object (button) to another. The changing target would be a clickable button using the "enter" button.

I've boiled this down as simple as I can make it. When I click on the down movie clip (which is inside the MC movieclip) it does indeed move the MC movieclip down 20. However, I need it to also move the "enemy" movieclip down. When I try running this I don't get any compile errors but when I click on the "down" and the MC moves down I get the following error:

Does anyone know whether it is possible to create a Tween object where the finish property is based on a changing variable?_tween = new Tween(object, "x", Regular.easeInOut, object.x, movingTarget.x, 60, false);The idea is that finish position could be updated with each frame so that the object changes direction in the middle of the tween.I don't know if this is possible (or even desirable)

I have 2 scenes. In both scenes, I have a movie clip that moves via keyboard control. If the goto next scene is triggered by the movie clip in the first scene the keyboard control works in the second. However, if I use a button to move to the next scene then there isn't any control over the movieclip in that scene. I've traced the keyCode in the second scene and it is picked up but the switch statement doesn't run. I'm migrating to Actionscript 3.0 and updating something I created in 2.0. I would like to do it without writing a class.

I made a .fla with some inline coding and some classes. In the .fla actionscript I have a function to read thru the object display list. Its the standard one found everywhere, where it recurses thru the objectdisplaycontainers. This works fine.
Then i gave the stage it own classname and moved the actionscript into a seperate .as file as well.

I drew a line (stepVoltage) in a fla using the graphics class. Once drawn, I want to move it to the right in an update function, but am having trouble. I tride just moving the line with statements like stepVoltage.x = newX; stepVoltage.y = newY; but this didnt work. Then I tried to delete the previous line and draw a new one with a clear () function (see below) but this blocked the next drawn line from showing up.
